Customer Reviews

RM5118R 18 in. 51cc 2-Cycle Gas Chainsaw with Carry Case is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Saw, cuts like butter. If you want a quality saw buy one of these. At first I wasn't sure with everything looking like a cheep plastic material. But after spending 3 weeks use it, it's the best chainsaw I have used. It cuts like butter, purrs like a kitten and doesn't need to be pulled multiple times in order to start it. With some of the other comments I was questioning it. But I have been using it like it was recommended and it hasn't burned through oil, or the blade hasn't gone dull. But then again I don't cut into the dirt with it and check and monitor both the chain and fuel levels every time I use it. If you want a quality 51cc chainsaw and your not an amateur log cutter then this would be a great buy for you too.

Good little chainsaw, starts easy, and runs good. one flaw, the gas line in tank is too short, when your cutting down a tree and your saw is horizontal you run out of fuel if the tanks not full to top. Other than that, i'm happy with it. I just have too find someone too fix this problem for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Needs improvement This saw has a lot of good qualities for under $200. But the manufacturer needs to work some issues out of it before it is actually usable. The first time to run it, it does great. But when you actually try to run it for an hour+ sawing up a whole tree for firewood, you find out that the oiler does not oil the chain correctly no matter how you adjust it, and when the engine is warm from use and you kill it, then it will NOT crank back up. Ever. This is the case on the 51cc, the 46cc, and the 42cc. Remington has some issues to work out. Otherwise, a nice looking saw, with good power, especially the 51cc, and if you are buying it to just trim one limb and then use it to decorate your garage, it looks nice! Also, they are a bit heavy too, compared to higher grade saws like professional Echo or Husqvarna. I had to return all 3 sizes because they are made more gor looks and trimming a limb or two, you cant actually work them a half a day sawing up trees around your home. You get worn out trying to re-crank them and oil a hot bar, rather than getting worn out from sawing with them.. I hope they can get these issues resolved, because it would be nice to pay $200 for a saw that actually works. But, it seems you must pay $500 to get a saw that you can actually use....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Saw Great saw. I have had the saw for over a year now and it has gotten a lot of use -- hours and hours of cutting. It is easy to start even in freezing temperatures. It runs very well and has plenty of power. Its tough and well made, and it has proven to be reliable. Only problem I ever had was I snapped the line on the pull starter recently -- probably my fault and like I said that saw has been used quite a bit. My buddies and I help each other out and they have more expensive big name saws with the same size 18" bar. I have more power and when we work together, I am noticeably faster (twice as fast). They all ask to try my saw. I need a reliable saw and I wanted great value. I took a risk here -- this saw is not a big name I guess and it is much less expensive, but it definitely isn't cheap in terms of quality. I think it is an exceptional value and I am proud to own it. No other saw I'd rather have.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Powerfull Engine if you can keep the chain on I had high hopes for this saw. As others have mentioned, the saw has a strong and powerful engine. In the process of cutting 1 cord of wood the chain came off several times even with frequent monitoring and chain tightening. I have been cutting firewood for decades and the chain performance with this saw is the worst I have ever experienced. this is a great value if it would work. Very disappointed.

The chainsaw was working great and performing wonderfully for all of 15 minutes, then it started having trouble running and finally died at about 20 minutes or so. This was the first time I used it and I followed the start up directions meticulously as well as using the proper fuel to oil mixture. I used exactly what they gave me and mixed it in the proper ratio with exactly what they told me to mix it with (also, I'm not just saying I mixed it with what I took to be the proper mixture, etc. I did exactly what I was told in the manual and I am a very competent at both 1) following instructions, and 2) working with power tools). Anyway, I got about 20 minutes of use out of it and have now spent much more time than that trying to get it taken care of with the manufacturer's warranty, since my first use of it was after the 30-day Home Depot warranty expired, unfortunately. I took it to the local authorized repair shop, which said that it's completely irreparable, but now I have to get a second opinion from another authorized repair shop in order for them to consider any sort of obligation they might have to me and the next closest one is over an hour away! So, as far as the product goes, it's possible that I drew the short straw and got the lemon. If the normal one runs as this one did for the first 15 minutes or so then it's probably a decent machine, but that's a pretty big gamble that you'll be taking - especially since you'll have to fight a huge uphill battle in order to get it repaired or replaced, should you have any trouble with it! Best to avoid it in my opinion!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No go After doing research and my due diligence… Reading reviews… I purchased the saw… I followed the mixing instructions and the start up instructions to the letter..it started quickly… I cut four or five logs… And shut it off… The saw never started again… After repeating the start up instructions… It never started again… I'll called the manufacture… To no avail… The Saw never started again... I returned it to Home Depot for a full refund
