Yes, I did just that (a 50 ft and a 100 ft extension cords in series) a couple days ago with this pole saw to trim two trees. Since this pole saw is 8 amp, 14 gauge should be enough. My 50 ft happened to be a 12 gauge but 100 ft is 14 gauge. I think both 14 gauge will work just fine.

Owned this 10" Remington Poll Saw for 7 or 8 years. The 8 amp motor is strong and the unit cuts like a champ. The pole works well when not extended. It is very top heavy when fully extended and difficult to manage. The oiler is junk - from day one it leaked constantly. Store your saw on a plastic tray because it is going to leak oil over what it is sitting on. I use this unit one or twice a year on tree work around the house. It will easily cut a 4 inch thick oak limb. I've replaced the blade once. The rubber oil cap wears out. The 25 cent platic part sells for 4.00 and they want another $8.00 to mail it. $12.00 for a cheap rubber cap. I'll hand oil the blade. The lousy oil tank leaks away.

I bought mine 5 years ago, I still love it. I modifided mine a little bit to reach even further, Like a total of 18 feet! I have no problem getting it to the furtherest branches. I don't recomend doing this to anyone else, but it works just fine for me.

1. Chainsaw with fully extended handle is too heavy at the end to be practical. 2. Clamping levers to tighten length of handle extension are only plastic, and only a quarter inch across near pivot and hollow. One snapped off with first use. Metal levers would solve this design defect. Remington should be seeing this review; not just customers.

If you are using this to cut small branches, then it will get the job done. Any branches over 6" circumference and you will need more power. The 8 amp is not enough to power through anything bigger, without slowing down or stopping completely. The telescoping extension is nice, but will get heavy after excessive use. If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy a bigger amp. Solid product and I am still happy.
