Answer

Hi, Thanks for sending your inquiry. I'm afraid that we do not recommend connecting two separate charge controllers to one battery bank or system. This is to ensure that the battery is not overcharged. Should you wish to expand in the future, I'd recommend purchasing a kit with Rover 40A or Rover 60A charge controllers so you may add panels in the future. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to let us know and we'll do our best to help. Or you may call us at (909) 287-7111 Monday through Friday 8:30am - 3:00pm PST. Have a good day!

Answer

Hello VP, You are correct, the charge controller included with this kit is rated at 400-watts maximum. You would need to upgrade to a 60-amp Rover that can accept up to 800-watt while maintaining a 12-volt battery bank. You will also need to reconfigure your solar panels to a series/ parallel configuration. Please contact us if you need further assistance, have a wonderful day.

If I buy the system it is not big enough can I add on to it

Asked by Scottohio May 23, 2020

Answer

Hello, The charge controller included with this system is maxed out a 400-watt of solar input. Therefore, you will not be able to expand. The rated voltage will really depend on what type of loads you are using and also the inverter you would like to use. With larger A/C loads it is recommended to consider 24-volts as an option.

Isn't it rather stupid to advertise this with no mention of its size?

Hello, We do apologize for not including the dimensions of the solar panel in the listing. We will work to update this information. Please note this kit includes 4x Renogy 100-watt panels with the following dimensions per panel: Dimensions: 42.2 X 19.6 X 1.38 In. We thank you for your feedback and please contact us if you have any other questions, have a wonderful day.

Answer

Hello, This system is designed to maintain 12-volt battery banks and would be a perfect system for 12-volt landscaping lights. Please note that this solar system will produce about 100-amp hours per day under optimum conditions.

Wondering if l can use solar panels to heat my Plug and Play Jacuzzi. Its plugged into a grounded outdoor outlet now.

Asked by CHRISTINA July 20, 2019

Answers

You may need a lot of solar for that. I am going to guess that your Jacuzzi draws 700 to 2000 Watts and takes 6 hours or more to heat 300 gallons of water. That is a lot of energy. If you are ambitious and put together a 1000 Watts of solar with a battery bank with a few hundred Amp hours, you might be in the ballpark roughly.

What type of inverter works best with this?

Asked by Rich April 28, 2019
1
Answer

Hello Rich and thank you for reaching out. The inverter size is going to depend on the rated watts of the electrical loads you will be using. When sizing an A/C inverter we recommend adding all the A/C loads you intend on running at the same time. For example, if you will be using 3 A/C loads consuming a total of 400-watts a Renogy 700-watt A/C inverter will suffice. However, if you your loads will be consuming 1,200-watts a Renogy 2,000-watt inverter is recommended. Please contact us and we can further assist with all your system sizing and simple installation questions, for more complicated or specific installation questions we recommend consulting with a licensed installer, have a wonderful day.

Can you use this kit for charging a 12 volt gel cell type battery (AGM)

Asked by wanderer April 25, 2019

Answers

Yes, the charge controller has selections for AGM, sealed, and flooded battery cell types. Which one you select at setup of the system determines the charging profile used by the controller.

Solar Panel installed facing south like a window pane. Virtually everyone installs solar panels on the roof to squeeze out every last bit of electricity, but I do it differently. Perhaps this will start a trend! This panel was installed on the Pump House to power LED lights and a water pump. See the photo. It is like a window on the building and is certainly more aesthetic than if the panel were on the roof. Maintenance is virtually zero, as it will not be impacted by snow and ice. Excess heat produced by the panel simply dissipates into the building. All of those issues are eliminated at the cost of decreased efficiency. Yet, given the choice I would install an extra panel like a window to make up for that loss instead of mounting them on the roof. When connecting the solar panel and battery to the controller it is advisable to turn the screws that bind the wire before mounting the controller on the wall so that you can view what is actually taking place. The tiny binding block is already advanced to its closed position so that if you insert the wire it will be behind the block instead of in front of it. You must turn the screw to move the block back first, then insert the wire in front of it and then turn the screw to tighten and bind it.

FYI I do RV repair and install solar on occasion. This is a personal purchase for my own unit. The install went well and the product appears to be working well. The only down side is the control has no digital display to give you that warm fuzzy that it’s doing what you expect. Instead you get flashing lights lol. At some point the plan will be to upgrade the control and add a couple more panels. For the price this is a great starter pack!
