Granted that the element length, wattage and voltage are the same i do not see why this would be a problem, However, We aren't sure that the mounting system on Kenmore products is the same, We would recommend reaching out to Kenmore at 1-800-549-4505, They might be better suited to answer this for you.

Will fit both positions HOWEVER, usually the top element is internally FUSED so you don't burn up the unit, wiring, etc if you turn on the power with the tank empty - IF YOU MAKE SURE THE TANK IS FULL before turning on the power you'll be fine

These were exactly what I was looking for. It is never easy dealing with no hot water at. It took forever just to locate these. I visited a Home Depot and couldn't find the right size. I'm using this 3800 watt unit to down rate from the original 4500 in an effort to reduce scale buildup We'll see how that works. Our old element was working in the unit, otherwise the long delivery time would have been a problem. Twelve days seems a long time to wait for a critical part.
