Questions & Answers

Would it be quicker heating if I use a stainless steel heating element (more surface area) instead of copper?

Model SP 10869ML (stainless steel) is designated for my upper heating element. I would like to use it as a LOWER heating element (instead of copper). Any problem doing this?
Asked by: HotWater
Heat transfer between water and a metal surface is very high. Therefore, the speed at which something heats is dependent upon wattage rather than surface area. A lower watt density heating element operates at a lower temperature in order to produce the same amount of heat. Scale is less prone to build up at lower temperature, plus the heating element can potentially last longer because of less high temperature oxidation.

Is this the same as Rheems' part # AP10552MH? For S/N 0311283497 50 gal medium water heater.

Yes, that does appear to be the same heating element. it is the same length, wattage, and voltage. It will work with the serial number you had provided.
