Product Overview

Rheem PROTECH dielectric heat traps preventing heat loss through the inlet and outlet pipes of a water heater while the heater is idle by using a flapper valve. The fittings are 3/4 in. NPT x 3/4 in. NPT. The flapper valve is self-cleaning.

The picture shows the direction the heat trap is to be installed. The actual item does not have the arrow to show how it’s to be installed.

What you see is not what you get. Product in the package (same part number) has no flow direction markings, thread sealant applied to same side of fitting on both (judging by the waisting for the flapper assembly), and no color indications to indicate which goes where. While you might judge from the product photos on the site that you install one in one direction, one in the other, the pre-applied sealant doesn't reflect that, making one wonder what the heck is going on with this product. Also, to clarify, these are flapper valves, in case folks were looking for ball valves. Really disappointed with this one, wish I had looked at reviews elsewhere first (other Large Online Retailers) to see this is a common problem. With the "excellent" install instructions (check them out for a laugh), I think these might be getting returned, not installed.
