    Answer This Question

A:  I can't determine if your kenmore tank is a plastic composite inter tank. The kenmore parts picture is hard to tell and limited. Most likely it is a Rheem. I have attached a parts list for a Rheem Marathon. I bought a Rheem 50 gallon 4500 watt at HD in 2015.(plastic inter tank). At the time, I purchased a spare upper and lower element. Note, the lower element is titanium clad, the upper is copper clad. The lower titanium element is for the extra life for more duty on that element, but a copper will still work.. I hope the attached parts list clip is helpful. I could not attach the full part list pdf due to size. I believe the Home Depot still uses the Rheem part numbers as reference. Good luck.

A:  Correcting my question. Of course I wrote upper for lower and vice versa. Question applies for finding upper element 210500

        by|Aug 21, 2020

A:  The lower element part is sp213670. Below is a clip from the parts listing. The MSR50 is the gallons model, (50 gallons). The last part 245b means (2) 4500 watt elements. • Lower Element (4500W), MSR50, MR75, MR85, MR105 gallon models SP213670

I replaced both elements on my Marathon water heater, but it looked like the lower (titanium) one was still okay after decades of service. Excellent product!

This was an exact replacement. Easy to install and a very fair price. Was glad someone commented about opening the pressure relief valve before draining the tank to prevent possible tank damage. Hope they last for 18 years (or more) like the originals.
