Error code 7...
Gave out after a few years of use, at least the warranty was still valid. Apparently these units have a problem resulting in error code 7, very frustrating that they are not more reliable.

Brand new water heater fromRheem, heat didnt work, called techs and they always excuse out by saying theres no techs available to reinstall a new one , so ended up getting another brand and it works now. Rheem said to get new replacement module instead and have it installed by thirdparty , did that but tech said it doesnt work after trying to install new module we bought, ended up returning it. Rheem is unfirtunalty a brand tht doesnt work

      Why is this so bad
This is junk. I have had two water heaters 40 gallon gas with this valve at my apartments. Each control valve failed with the first 5 years. I have five more of these water heaters. Reliable they are not. I have been doing this for 40 years. Water heaters with different non electronic values never had problems

The number on the thermostat was off by one letter which made it very hard to get it to work but I did not have time to return it.I had to put the new parts into the old housing. Very disappointed!

        Suspicious junk by design
It went out 6 years and 1 month. 1 month, 10 days, after my water heater warranty expired. I bought Rheem because i thought it was a quality product. I guess you can’t rely on name brand anymore.

          Never again
Same problems as mentioned. Bought water heater 7/15. Been trying to get part. Sent wrong part twice and got another part today. Expedited shipping $30 each. When and if done, this will have been about $450 plus many times that in frustration.

I have a similar Honeywell product
The Honeywell model I have is WV8880B121, and I am having the SAME results. I have had my water heater for less than 4 years, and I have to install my THIRD gas control valve. The outside case looks exactly like it only a different model number. My model costa $351. Honeywell uses another manufacturer for these valves.

              garbage
Set this to A and have had it for maybe a month and the thing went out on me. flashed on a 7 blink cycle (even though the manual calls for 3 second interval counting which gives you a 4 blinks/3 seconds). so far they have been understanding about replacement but will be without hot water for a couple days.

It is a big ole piece of junk and nothing but trouble.

                    rheem water heater
I purchased the rheem water heater from home depot and Im having the same issues but i only had the rheem water heater for only 1 year. Home depot, rheem or honeywel should send free replacements parts. The waterheater was over expensive $900

NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS UNIT
I purchased a Rheem Water Heater that cost me nearly $900.00 with this valve pre installed S/N SP20867C in 2017 and for the past year I have had nothing but problems with it. I'm experiencing the same issues as the other two reviews. Error code 7 constantly. It started out every couple months... and now it is several times a day that it 'trips off' and flashes error code 7. I have to go thru what seems to be a ritual to reset the thing and it is very frustrating at the very least.... problematic when you get up in the morning expecting to take a nice hot shower... to find nothing but ice cold water. I haven't been successful in contacting with Rheem or Honeywell to speak to someone who might be able to either replace the unit or suggest an alternative, possibly even after market unit. When I called Honeywell... I was routed to INDIA and was forced to engage in an extremely agrivating conversation with a nice man who had a very difficult time communicating in English. I am NOT a happy person when it comes to this item. If anyone has any suggestions for an acceptable replacement unit... I would be ever so grateful. Rheem / Honeywell should send us FREE replacement units THAT WORK... and that will continue to work without fail. GRRRR ! What a waste of money and time.... I'm so dis-satisfied with this purchase.

We have this on our Rheem hot water tank and it is roughly 4 years old. There is a known issue with this controller, if you set it above the first hot setting the controller goes out. You cannot set it to A,B,C or Very Hot. If you turn it up, it will constantly throw an error code of 4 or 7. Ours is throwing a 7 code. This is a known issue and there are numerous videos explaining the problem. Not sure why they still use and\or sell this controller. Stay away from it.
