The Rheem Performance 40 Gal. Natural Gas Tall Water Heater comes with a 36,000 BTU/hour environmentally friendly low NOx burner that provides ample hot water for households with 2 to 4 people. The push button ignition system ensures safe and easy startup. Its maintenance free combustion air intake system means there are no filters to clean and replace. A premium grade anode rod provides long lasting tank protection. Factory installed temperature and pressure relief valve and 3/4 in. water connections are included with the water heater for easy installation.

California and Utah residents (Utah effective 7/1/18): this water heater does not meet ultra-low NOx (ULN) Emissions Requirements; regulations prohibit the sale, shipment or installation of this water heater in any air quality district that requires ULN water heaters; please refer to the maps below to confirm if your home is in a district that requires ULN emission water heaters, and if so please select an approved ULN model

faulty drain valve

Cheap plastic drain valve! Busted and caused flooding in the entire house. Broke when not home.

Rheem makes junk

I bought a Rheem 40 gallon gas hot water heater less then five years ago. A few weeks ago I noticed it is rusted out. It is still under warranty but the warranty is basically worthless. Rheem is a piece of garbage in a box. Do not buy!!

Doing the job. We did install a Grundfos circulator...

Doing the job. We did install a Grundfos circulator to have “instant” hot water in the bathroom farthest from the hot water tank.

Do not buy!

I am property manager for 72 units, we had 2 of the Rheem water heaters quit working after 2 years! They are sending a part out to repair it, and wanted me to pay $30 to expedite the part (I didn’t pay )Why should I have to pay for their shoddy equipment? Save your money and buy another brand! First was purchased on 10/12/2020 and had to be replaced on 03/04/2022; second one was purchased 12/15/2020 and quit working on 02/27/2023! Still waiting on the part 03/232/23

Leak on bottom of tank.

I installled this water heater on Saturday. Easy enough to install etc. A couple days later the tank started leaking from the bottom. I called Rheem and they said I had to return the unit and replace it at the place I bought it. I’m going to replace this unit but with another brand with better customer service. They did not care at all that they sold a broken water heater and put everything on me to rememdy the situation.

Hot and consistent

Water heats very quickly and stays at consistent temperature. It also has an easy knob to adjust temperature or set in vacation mode.

Reliable Unit. Simple installation

I bought this on 1/29/2023 and planned out what i wanted before my purchase by measuring the exact height so when i headed to HD i was able to buy the exact piece to swap out without the need to revise the copper pipes (which is a pain). This RHEEM 40gallon was perfect in the box, connected easily and honestly recovers so much faster than the 12 year old unit it replaced. Super quiet and fast heating recovery

Garbage

Thermopile not Thermocouple: Thermocouples are better and fail less. Sell replacement thermopiles at Home Depot? Of course not just thermocouples Plastic drain: In store cost $1 less than metal ones that never break which means it cost Rheem 10c less to install these Anode rod not magnesium: Why have ones that are healthy for you let alone are not neurotoxic? Because they want folks to be out of it enough to keep buying trash. Pressure valve: You get 5 uses before it leaks uncontrollably
