Leaked after 9 years
Tank leaked after 9 years, installed in October 2014 and started leaking a May 2023. All the fittings are bone dry and the bottom sheetmetal pan is filling up with water. I'm also on city water with a softener.

Purchased this 6 years ago to turn into scrap. Congratulations to Rheem for the engineered obsolescence to occur just past the warranty. It must've been quite a task after the directive from corporate to engineering came down, and must've taken many months/years of trial and error, whatwa with all the metallurgical vs time studies to perfect the right thickness of inferior metal for tank fabrication. Someone got a sweet bonus for making this happen! Congrats rheem!!

I am a professional contractor. do not buy this product.
The bottom of the tank gave out and only 5 years. we couldn't get a replacement for almost two weeks and when it did arrive the pressure switch wasn't working. on top of that, the warranty only covers the original price that you paid for the water heater which 5 years ago was about half of what they cost now.

Amazing - love the hot water - endless hot water
Maybe we got lucky but so far everything is good and it’s only a week old and I absolutely love the hot water. I have three girls and a wife and I was constantly taking cold showers with our previous unit. This thing completely heats up to 75 gallons of water within 28 minutes from cold after the first hookup and first fill. And I’ve been putting it to the test for the last week doing laundry, dishes, showering, and that water has never come close to running out of hot water. Very happy!!

Repeat Trial
We bought our first Rheem in 2016, 6 year warranty. It leaked badly 6 years and 8 months later. We decided to try the same heater because it worked well, we never ran out of hot water and it was quiet. Due to our not following the maintenance suggested, we believe it failed. We decided to replace it with the same one to make swapping it out easier and to follow the maintenance recommendations to the letter this time. The cost was $300 more! Hopefully, it will last longer. Right now, we are up in the air about our opinion.

Leaking one month out of warranty
Rheem is a terrible company. They want home depot to absorb the replacement of the water heater. Do not buy 40 gallon water heater, they don't last and are faulty. Chance of electrocution when it fails. Rheem acknowledges that unit must be replaced as it cannot be repaired. Buyer beware!

EZ-peasy install
This unit was a replacement for a GE unit. Turns out, the GE was made by Rheem. Easy install. The only modification I had to make was the exhaust plumbing. The blower was 5" or so lower than the old heater so I needed a longer up section of PVC to reach the outlet location.

DON’T BUY RHEEM
-Purchased first unit on Feb 2018, lasted 3yrs, 4mo (tank leaked) with install $1400.00
-Purchased second unit Aug 2020 lasted 1yr, 8mo (tank leaked) with install $605.00 received a pro rated price on the second thru RHEEM w/warranty.
-Purchased extended warranty from Home Depot, they won’t cover anything including labor until after the unit 6yr warranty expires…..NO HELP!
-Current RHEEM water heater I have, tank leaks…if I exchange it now with install $1190.00. Would you buy?
