We want the Power Vent to be able to eliminate the current vent through the chimney. What happen...

I do not believe you can vent the power vent through a chimney. This would violate the design of the vent system and the plumbing codes. The power vent has specific requirements, and for this unit, I believe a 2inch pvc vent is required. There are also other requirements such as the slope of the vent pipe, the horizontal distance allowed, and where/how the vent terminates on the outside of the house (such as not near a window, etc). In general, the exhaust gases from the water heater power vent are not hot enough to travel all the way up and out from a chimney system. Consult the codes and follow them for safety. And buy a carbon monoxide detector also.

does this require electricity (plug)?

Yes, the power vent needs power for the fan.

Great question that is easily and quickly answered by READING or just looking at the picture...no need to read. Looks to be 1,680mm from the floor to the top of the blower. Best of luck,

Installed easily - Appears to be well made - high quality. Has a Honeywell regulator which looks like a good thing. Produces a lot of hot water and I have turned it down twice. - no issues with it, Arrived with a baseball sized dent on the upper seam where the top attaches but fortunately it is in the back of the unit - no effect on the operation so far so good.

Faulty Out of the Box
Everything connected just fine on the install. Went through step by step procedure from manual. When to start it and had 2 fault codes right away. I have a pressure switch failed open fault as well and a Flammable Vapor Sensor (FVS) fault. I called the Rheem number on front of tank that they want you to call. No one available till the next business day. Can't wait to shell out more money on a unit that hasn't worked from the moment of unboxing.

Garbage - bottom rusted out and extended warranty worthless
Purchased 1 Nov 2016 No issues until 8/9/2020. Purchased 5 yr protection plan for piece of mind and still waiting for Home Depot to provide a plumber to confirm its leaking and not repairable. Home depot can install your appliance next day but cant help when its covered under the extend warranty. Still have no hot water in 7 days, cant do anything until home depot approves replacement. Plumbers must not get paid much from the plan because no one is responding to the service call.

Installation instructions were clear. I had to modify vent, gas and water lines to the unit, took me a couple hours. I did get an initial low gas pressure error code, but it cleared itself in a couple minutes. I would recommend this unit.

I waited until now (the one year mark) to make this review, as I wanted to provide a fair and honest review after owning the product for awhile. After considering a tankless water heater, we researched and then bought our Rheem water heater in May 2019, along with the additional 5-yr extended warranty. It was delivered in perfect condition. It runs pretty quietly, although in our smaller home, we can hear it somewhat in the upstairs kitchen (which is right above the water heater) although not in other parts of the house. We are fine with that. We regularly do laundry while taking showers/dishes without there being a hot water issue. We are very happy with our Rheem and would highly recommend.

Packaging from Rheem is absolute trash!
Just installed this water heater a month ago. Purchased this in store, there were only 2 in store and both were beat death ....there were some serious dents in this thing, we didn't fully see all of the dents until we got it home. The packaging on these from Rheem is absolute trash! There was 1 small cardboard filler in the side of the box expected to stop this unit from shifting in the box, what a joke the weight of this just flattened the filler cardboard. This is not a cheap item you would think the manufacturer would provide a some protection for the unit. We asked a store associate to help us get this on a cart, I now know how half the dents came about. The way the associate just tilted this thing and flipped it up onto the cart can only lead me to believe they man handle these things with no care at all. He even mentioned that more then half the time these are coming off the trucks to the store its raining so the boxes completely breakdown and they just have to make do moving them around. I'm just amazed that anyone buys these considering they likely all have dents considering there is nothing to protect them during shipment. So far the dents seem to only have impacted the insulation around the water heater and we haven't had any leaks. Fingers crossed it lasts ~ 6- 8 yrs.

So far this has been great. I have a 2000 sq ft home. It was easy to install. The only thing is I have had to turn up the heat to the middle setting to ensure the water stays hot enough to run 2 showers within the same hour. I thought it would have been able to do enough hot water at the lower setting, but other than that I'm happy.
