The Rheem Performance Platinum 40 Gal. Liquid Propane Short Water Heater comes with a 36,000 BTU/hour burner that provides ample hot water for households with 2 to 4 people. The electronic ignition system eliminates the standing pilot light, saves energy and monitors system Performance. Its maintenance free combustion air intake system means there are no filters to clean and replace. A patented magnesium anode rod design incorporates a special resistor that protects the tanks from rust, providing longer tank life. Factory installed temperature and pressure relief valve and 3/4 in. water connections are included with the water heater for easy installation. The water heater is ENERGY STAR qualified. This Rheem Performance Platinum model is Wi-Fi compatible allowing for remote monitoring of the water heater's operation (Wi-Fi Module REWRA631GWH sold separately).

The Rheem 50 gallon short water heater was a perfect fit for the location and occupants in the house. The original one was a tall model and it was extremely difficult to access the top of the heater for service. This model with its electronic igniter has worked perfectly. No more pilot light going out during the day. Installation was easy and has been providing hot water while using less gas. Great product.

Excellent replacement for my 20 year old gas water heater. The Rheem water heater works great and it has a very quick recovery. I really like the wifi module which allows you monitor and set the temperature with app on your phone. It comes in handy when you are going to be gone for a few days. Wifi module also has a water detector for the drain pan.

The one problem I have is the smell of a propane gas leak. I called my plumber back and he checked for leak in the gas pipes, for the second time. He could not find a leak but he could smell gas. I called Rheem and they said to mix up soap and water and spray the gas valve. I don't think its a good idea due to the wires that are connected to the valve. I was asked if I felt it was a faint odor or something stronger. I told the man on the phone every gas water heater I have owned never had a smell of gas. He said if he sends someone to my home and it was an acceptable amount of gas leakage I may or may not have to pay for the service call. He emailed me a paper that implies some gas leaks are ok.
I was thinking about having the water heater removed and returned for a different brand. You spend the extra money to get an efficient water heater and its allowed to waste fuel into the air. It sounds a bit crazy. When I get this resolved or removed I will update this review.

This water heater is an example of Craftsmanship of the highest level. It is State of the Art in all respects. With the automatic flue damper and pizo ignition system you are able to conserve heat loss as well as fuel. No more guessing when it comes to temperature settings. This gas valve has increment lines that tells you what the water temperature will be when set on that particular line. The manual has this information inside.
This unit even is capable of using Wi-Fi for settings from your iPhone.

We purchased this hot water just about a month ago and todate we are very pleased with this product. We hired a local plumbing company, not only to pick it up for us, but install at a very reasonable price.This hot water heater seems to be well designed and well put together. There is definitely a difference between this Energy Star model and our previous hot water heater. The Rheem is a little larger in diameter and slightly taller. I really like the automatic damper on the flue pipe, this really helps with keeping the heat in the tank. At no time can you ever feel any heat transfer from the hot water to the outside of the metal tank. The water heats very quickly and you seldom see or hear the heater reheating the water. I also like the electric gas valve on the Rheem, it automatically started the burner as soon as it was plugged in, when it was first put to use, rather trying to light the pilot and thermocouple. I would definitely recommend this unit to others. Lastly, our energy company offers a rebate when you purchase an Energy Star unit.

Excellence in Design and Quality
This is the best water heater I ever purchased and installed!
The engineering is state of the art and surpasses any water heater on the market by far!
No pilot light to waste energy, the thermostat can actually be set to a specific temperature instead of the old fashioned, Warm, Hot, Very Hot settings.
The flue damper is 24volt so it closes when the burner cuts off to keep the heat in the flue stack!
The 12 year warranty is also a big plus that comes with this model.

Don't know. After I got it home and set where it was going to be installed I went back to home Depot to purchase my gas line and water line adapters. After talking with a worker in the plumbing dept. We discovered that I had ordered the wrong water heater. I needed a direct vent heater and this is not one. So needless to say I had to return it to the store and purchase the correct one which is very similar to this one and works great. Its Rheem Performance 50 Gal. Tall 6 Year 42,000 BTU Power Vent Liquid Propane Gas Water Heater
