Q:You have two 75 gallon water heater, a 6 year and 12 year warranty with obvious two prices. My question is the 12 year a better quality than the 6 year or they the same quality and I'm paying more for the 12 year because it's offers longer warranty

Answer This Question
A: Rheem did NOT answer the question. Again, is there any actual quality difference, or are they just extending the warranty by increasing the cost?: It is a VERY IMPORTANT question in determining my selection.

A: Hi Mike and thank you for your question. A product's warranty period can be established based on several factors, including: The industry standard for the product. What the competition is offering. The period of time during which some percentage of the products will still be functioning correctly.

Q:Does this unit require an expansion tank

Answer This Question
A: Hi Mike and thank you for your question. Thermal Expansion Determine if a check valve exists in the inlet water line. Check with your local water utility company. It may have been installed in the cold water line as a separate back flow preventer, or it may be part of a pressure reducing valve, water meter or water softener. A check valve located in the cold water inlet line can cause what is referred to as a “closed water system”. A cold water inlet line with no check valve or back flow prevention device is referred to as an “open” water system. As water is heated, it expands in volume and creates an increase in the pressure within the water system. This action is referred to as “thermal expansion”. In an “open” water system, expanding water which exceeds the capacity of the water heater flows back into the city main where the pressure is easily dissipated. A “closed water system”, however, prevents the expanding water from flowing back into the main supply line, and the result of “thermal expansion” can create a rapid and dangerous pressure increase in the water heater and system piping. This rapid pressure increase can quickly reach the safety setting of the relief valve, causing it to operate during each heating cycle. Thermal expansion, and the resulting rapid, and repeated expansion and contraction of components in the water heater and piping system can cause premature failure of the relief valve, and possibly the heater itself. Replacing the relief valve will not correct the problem! The suggested method of controlling thermal expansion is to install an expansion tank in the cold water line between the water heater and the check valve (see illustration below). The expansion tank is designed with an air cushion built in that compresses as the system pressure increases, thereby relieving the over pressure condition and eliminating the repeated operation of the relief valve. Other methods of controlling thermal expansion are also available. Contact your installing contractor, water supplier or plumbing inspector for additional information regarding this subject.

Answer This Question
A: Hi frank and thank you for your question. The water heater should not be located in an area where leakage from the tank or connections will result in damage to the area adjacent to the heater or to lower floors of the structure. When such areas cannot be avoided it is recommended that a suitable drain pan, adequately drained, must be installed under the water heater. Please also check local codes.

***** Excellent Water Heater if you want plenty of hot water!!! ***** I recommend this water heater for anyone with a household of 5+. This is also great if you have in-laws or kids that come and visit. The brass drain valve with the half turn open/close is much better than those plastic valves. Since it takes a screw driver to open/close, you don't have to worry about a small child getting burned with hot water. As with all natural gas 75 gallon hot water heaters, it requires 4" diameter venting instead of the standard 3". The vent hood supplied does a great job of funneling all of the exhaust out. The 76,000 BTU burner provides great recovery time when hot water has been used. The tank is also well insulated. This Rheem tank is thicker than the 75 gallon water heater I replaced. It does come 1" female/female inlet/outlet fittings. My old water heater had 3/4" fittings. Therefore if your pipes are 3/4 copper like mine you will need a couple female 1" to 3/4" sweated fittings. You will also need a larger thermal expansion tank. I had a 4.5 gallon thermal expansion tank added. This Rheem water heater comes with a little pilot light starter. This is the first water heater I have had with one. It comes in handy because you don't have to light the pilot light with a lighter. I like that it has a 3 year labor and 12 year parts warranty. The ideal thing about a 75 gallon water heater with quick recovery time is that you only need one instead of having two 40 or 50 gallon water heaters. With 2 you have to have 2 water inlets, 2 water outlets, 2 gas inlets, 2 exhaust vents. This a makes for a costly plumbing charge. You also have 2 pilot lights running instead of one. Although the 75 gallon water heater is little costly, you only need one water heater. The only down side to the Rheem 75 gallon water heater is it does NOT appear to be a stocked or warehoused item. When I ordered mine it took a month to arrive. When it arrived in early April 2021, I saw it was just manufactured in late March 2021. This makes me wonder how fast a replacement could be had if one was needed. I preemptively replaced our 14 year old 75 gallon water heater so I could keep the same size. When I was a kid in a house of 5, we only had a 40 gallon "electric" water heater. When my sister would use all the hot water, it took over 2 hours for that old electric water heater to recover. Needless to say, I took a lot of cold showers and hated it as anyone would. Once an adult, I said I would not run out of hot water again. Enter the 75 gallon water heater... We can have 2 different showers running and not have an issue. I can have the washing machine on a hot setting load of laundry and dishwasher running and still have plenty of hot water for the shower or tub. Running out of hot water is not an issue for me!

Excellent Replacement
I ordered this hot water heater to replace a 13 year old natural gas 75 gallon one. The contractor arrived and installed it within two hours. I am pleased with the performance and would recommend this model and would purchase it again if I ever need to replace a hot water heater again. I purchased it through the contractor at Home Depot online The process was as simple as could be. They took the old hot water tank away. The price of the tank and installation was reasonable. Best customer service from beginning to end. Product was unpacked with no damage. It took about 45 minutes to heat up once installation was finished. It exceeds my expectations.

The 75 gallon Rheem water is wonderful. With double the BTUs of a standard water heater and the additional gallons (replaced a 50 gal/ 38K BTU) our home with 4 adults never runs out of hot water. The install was a little more than plug-n-play as the additional BTUs required us to change from a 3” exhaust duct to a 4” exhaust duct. This did add some additional cost to the project but was a DIY install. Overall I am very satisfied with the water heater and it’s performance.

Had a plumber come out to install it. Had to help him lift it because it weighs 320 pounds empty. It is a huge gas hot water heater. It's been performing very well. I'm pleased with the hot water distribution although I did add a pump to the hot water side of the unit. My problem was getting hot water to the furthest bathroom without having to run the water for 20 minutes. I now have hot water within a minute! Great purchase!

I installed this yesterday, so no comment on longevity, but install went well and I have tons of hot water. Replaced an aging 50ga tank. Everything seems great so far.

Poor Quality Product
I bought this unit online, it was installed 6/28/23. It stopped working 9/27/23. A new part was ordered and installed on Sept 11th. The part failed an hour after the tech left. We contacted Rheme for a replacement water heater. I called Home Depot, they opened a case with the Consumer Protection Agency. The replacement water heater was installed on 9/19/23.
All the technicians feel that Rheme will do a recall on these units and or send out a repair kit to fix whatever is going wrong. Long story short, we were without hot water from August 27 to September 19th.
