Hello Julie, thanks for asking, the units themselves should be no less then 4 inches between the two heaters and they are not able vent using the same venting, they will both need to be vented separately. they will be able to share a gas line granted it is sized properly, it would be best to contact a licensed plumber in the area.

Answer

Hello Buddy, Thanks for asking, Yes, an atmospheric unit vents using the heat from its own exhaust and does not require an additional blower motor, However keep in mind without a blower motor we recommend the venting be as straight up as possible.

Other than having cold water, is there a way to tell if the pilot is out?

Thank you for asking. You can take the jacket door off of the bottom of the water heater and there is a sight glass window you can look through and check for a pilot flame.

What does self cleaning mean?

Thank you for asking. At the end of the dip tube there is a helix coil built in that swirls the water in such a manor that reduces the amount of sediment that may get stuck to the bottom of the tank.

Excellent Replacement
I ordered this hot water heater to replace a 13 year old natural gas 75 gallon one. The contractor arrived and installed it within two hours. I am pleased with the performance and would recommend this model and would purchase it again if I ever need to replace a hot water heater again. I purchased it through the contractor at Home Depot online The process was as simple as could be. They took the old hot water tank away. The price of the tank and installation was reasonable. Best customer service from beginning to end. Product was unpacked with no damage. It took about 45 minutes to heat up once installation was finished. It exceeds my expectations.

Great water heater - FYI on installation
Called Home Depot and was given quote over the phone of around $1200 for this hot water heater and install. However, when technician got here, it was $500 more for new gas line, new water line pipes and expansion tank. Nobody to blame, you just need to be aware. Our city code requires an expansion tank (which was not on our old hot water heater) yes, the technician could have probably re-used the original gas line and water pipes. But better to be safe than sorry. I am sure they don’t want to re-use old parts when their reputation is on the line for the install. That being said, I called Home Depot install services at around 10am and by 3pm the old tank was out and new one put in. So, I can’t complain. Sure, I could have done it myself and got around the upgraded code issues...but now it’s done right by a licensed technician. 22 year old house and this is my third (3rd) hot water tank. I am sure the first one was “builders grade” and the second one had a 6 year “warranty” and it went out at eight (8) years. Not much cost difference on the tank itself going from a 6 year, 9 year to a 12 year warranty tank. I am sure the installation price would be the same no matter which grade I would have chosen. Overall: happy

After just 2 years water is leaking from bottom.
I have had this water heater for less than 2 years and it’s failing. Water is leaking from bottom as if it’s about to fail. I never had a water heater before fail in less than 10 years. But 2 years it’s poor quality. I didn’t keep receipt because I didn’t think I would have a problem with it. I tired entering SN and Model on Rheem warranty check site and it said it couldn’t find it. I put my email and phone number in and have yet to hear from anyone days later.

New Install
Home Depot came out the same day I called and installed it. which was nice since the old one started leaking. Of course I had to pay for it, but it sure looks nice. Hope I can forget about now for 15 years.

My gas water heater was the original with the house I bought. It was 18 years old and began leaking. I looked it up and it was considered a 12-year product. When I got 50% more performance from my original Rheem, I could not consider anything else. Now a month in service, the new one is more efficient and of course cleaner than the first one. This is a fantastic product that I installed myself. It was very straight-forward and the worst of it was getting it into my second floor attic with a pull-down door.

The 75 gallon Rheem water is wonderful. With double the BTUs of a standard water heater and the additional gallons (replaced a 50 gal/ 38K BTU) our home with 4 adults never runs out of hot water. The install was a little more than plug-n-play as the additional BTUs required us to change from a 3” exhaust duct to a 4” exhaust duct. This did add some additional cost to the project but was a DIY install. Overall I am very satisfied with the water heater and it’s performance.
