We want to get this system but I do not think it will work for us unless someone has a solution we are not aware of....we have ONE electrical switch in the house that turns on all 4 front lights at once (2 at front door and 2 at garage). we did this for convenience of not having to walk downstairs to turn front lights on separately. But now we wanted to replace ONE of the garage lights with this floodlight...however does that mean that it will not work unless we keep the electrical switch ON all of the time (day and night) which in turn means leaving the other 3 front lights on all of the time as well!
Asked by: alliejm
It will work. You have a couple of options. Install photocells on the individual lights, set them to dusk to dawn setting. The switch may remain on and the lights won't come on, until it is dark outside.

Do I need a sub scription of some sort to work or will it work on my phone thro my wifi net work

Asked by: George
If you want to be able to look at "motion" events after they happen, you will need to purchase a one year or a month to month subscription for the cloud recording service. The one year fee is $35.00 for one camera or you can purchase access for an unlimited number of cameras and door bells for a total fee of $100 per year. The first 30 days the cloud recording service is free.

Does it offer real time alert to your cell phone when the motion detects someone like the door bell system.
Asked by: Leon
Yes and no. If the device is working correctly you will get an alert but there is a delay of about 30 seconds before the video is viewable. More than enough time for someone to remove a package from my front porch area.

Product works great when it works but if there is an interruption of electricity or internet they have to be reset. This requires pressing a button on the camera. In my case the cameras where installed at the peak of my house. I need a 40 foot ladder to go up an press the button. At seventy years old not a good idea. What about Winter! You should be warned before installation by the ring company so that you install in a location that is readily accessible! Buyer beware $500 to install $250 for each camera. Maybe they should give a coupon for a ladder!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't do it I am a single female who was robbed. I saw this product and was excited to get it installed and feel safe again. I have had problem after problem with them and so far not once did all 3 products work at the same time. from blaming my wifi, faulty wiring, a bad unit etc i still don't have them up and working a month later. Now Ihave to pay an electrician to come back and uninstall everything and figure out what's next. Over $1000 and counting so far that i have paid out and for absolutely nothing.

It is simply amazing, I find myself turning it on during the day just to see what's going on. The Ring Floodlight Camera was easy for me to install, I had an existing Floodlight over my driveway that was 15+ years old so it was due for a replacement. I have the Ring doorbell at my front door and love it so thought it would be perfect to have it on my driveway and be able to keep an eye on things. We've had a recent increase in car break-ins within my neighborhood so having this floodlight camera really helps me feel like I know what's going on. Installation was so easy.

We got a ring doorbell about a year and a half ago and have been pleased with how it works. The only downside was having to recharge the battery every couple months. When we heard about this motion activated flood light that was hard wired, we thought of giving it a try. They both work from the same app on our phones, so it seemed like a really easy addition to make. So we've had it now for about a month. We really enjoy the "live view" mode for checking on activity in our back alley. It also has very good resolution. If you have an existing floodlight, it's really simple to replace with the Ring Floodlight. The instructions were very simple to follow.

Product was easy to install and came with all parts and an installation tool to complete the process. Only complaint is wireless security is limited to WEP, and 2.4 Ghz band. App works well on Android phone and Ring has a Windows 10 application that can be run from your PC.

This product is not worth What you pay for it, not to mention the installation! The Voice communication to and from the device is unintelligible and answering an alert for motion is unbelievably slow. the picture is distorted so that you can only make out maybe if it was a female or male after a trial period you must pay $3.00 a month to keep all the features for 1 device. I suggest you purchase a real camera system Hardwired to a Hard drive device! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME ON THIS CHEAP QUALITY ITEM!

After installing three of these at three different homes and testing for over a month, I can NOT recommend this Cam to others. First, you do not get "1080p HD Video" from this security camera. The videos are sized to 1920x1080, but the video quality is not 1080p HD -- maybe more like 144p or 240p. At each house I have fast 6 Mbps upload speeds, and Ring tech support admit they see that 6 Mbps upload speeds in their nightly iperf tests from my Cams -- but the video quality is still horrible and Ring tech support does not know why the video quality is so poor. The other huge problem is wireless (Cam only support 2.4 GHz, not 5 GHz). Ring tech supports requires a ridiculously good RSSI (wifi Received Signal Strength Indicator) that equates to 100% signal strength (or 5 out of 5 bars). I eventually ran ethernet next to the cam and installed a wireless access point and that made no difference. And worst of all, sometimes the Cam just does not record events at all -- a car is no longer in the driveway, so where did it go? -- the Cam did not record it leaving! And there are a lot more bugs. Sound in videos is incredibly problematic (many times no sound at all). Two-way talk never worked. Some recorded videos are 100% black for 40 seconds (tech support says their back end is having issues and to wait; but after a week, the video is still black). Sometimes live view does not work at all. For more details on what bugs were found, just Google "Ring Floodlight Cam bugs".

They make it seem like this is super easy to set up and use but don't be fooled. I bought one, waited while it was on back order then paid my electrician to install it. First time I go to use it and it won't work - bad internet connection. Come to find out that it needs over Mbps of upload speed (not advertised). Fine. I call at&t and pay for an upgraded plan. Now I get 5mbps but the device still says bad connection. I can test the wifi with my iPad right next to the ring and get a super strong signal but it's not good enough for the Ring. Save your money and just buy a regular motion detector and or camera separate. This thing is junk. I wish I had not paid for the installation.
