Q:Does camera have color night vision?
by|Feb 23, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hi JimG. Good question! Yes, the Ring Spotlight Camera Wired Device offers color night vision. By using infrared light, the camera can create a black and white image that is then beamed to the Live View in your app. By turning the color night vision feature on, the camera will use whatever ambient light is available to try and create a "false color" image in your Live View. This lets you get a better sense of what's happening in the image by creating a false sense of color depth. Q:Can this one be connected to solar panel?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Lizeth. Good question! No, the Ring Spotlight Camera Wired cannot be connected to a solar panel. It is powered by a USB-C power adapter. You can also add an optional rechargeable battery pack (holds up to 2, sold separately) in order to use dual power mode. When in dual power mode (plug-in and batteries), the camera will receive a trickle charge from the batteries. Answer This Question

A:  Hello RZ0000, Great question! Yes, you may link multiple Ring camera and doorbell devices together so when motion is sensed on one device, it begins recording on other devices. This is called "linking" your devices. Here is a helpful article that walks you through the process: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360033904271-Linking-your-Ring-devices-together-for-enhanced-security-. Ring Refurb Spot Light Cam arrived in new/like new condition. It was added for my backyard coverage. Installed on our shed. Installation was very easy and it was added to my existing Ring setup without issue. Will buy again if needed.

I purchased this product to add to an already installed Ring Doorbell. The installation was simple, the provided tools were good, with the exception of the substandard masonry drill bit. I had to purchase a brand name bit because the provided bit did not drill into the brick on the front of the house. Once connected and activated, which did take several hours, the unit has functioned perfectly. The view I have of the front yard and driveway area is phenomenal! The clarity of the picture is amazing! If you need an additional view of your front or back yard, this is an amazing product at a very reasonable price.

Clear Video, Wide Coverage, Bright Lights and Easy to Setup and Use.
Having the Ring Alarm i am replacing older D-Link cameras and this is so easy to use and even setup. The picture quality is sharp and clear, and it's at the fringes of my Wi-Fi coverage and maintains a great connection. On my home it's an attractive looking camera. I like it seen, it helps to keep the bad guys away, just by sight of it. I added the solar panel to keep my batteries charged. Yes, batteries, This comes with one, but 2 are recommended because of the lights and power usage. I maintain a 100% charge status because of the solar charger. I didn't even know it takes a second battery. So much easier to use then my previous brand (In all fairness, about an 8yr old system and technology has improved). I love how I get notices on my phone. From my Ring door bell and this camera. I plan to get at least 2 more outdoor cameras. One with spot lights and another one of this model. I will add the solar charger to them, but you don't have too. With both batteries you can get several months before recharging. One spare battery(or not), just recharge them. Do I recommend to buy this, 100% yes.

This camera has an excellent perimeter and a crystal clear picture. It is very easy to use and the quality on the audio is unbelievable. Ring did a very good job on this camera! The night vision on this is very good along with our motion sensor flood lights. You can hear every word someone saying on the road it's one of the house.

I first gave it to my son to test it out. He couldn’t connect to the device. He didn’t have fast enough upload and download because you have to have at least 2 mbps up and down. He called Ring support to figure it out and they were very helpful. So if you have inferior internet you may not be able to use it. I set it up at my house and didn’t have much problem getting the basics working. I did have a question though so I went on Live Chat to have my question answered. My problem was that I wasn’t getting notices on my phone’s lock screen when someone walked by the camera. The support person gave me a list of thing to try. It still didn’t seem to work until I set the motion zone and then it started working. Until I figure out where to put the camera I have been using it to monitor my cats. One of them has been pooping outside the litter box. After a few days of monitoring I have found the guilty party. I think I will keep this in my house and put it on the main living area. I don’t have an outlet outside so it will be tricky to have it outside. Also I wouldn’t know whether to put it out the front or the back. It has lifetime purchase protection so if it is stolen they will replace it for free which is good.

This is the perfect wifi security camera for our driveway gate for both day and night time use. We have installed both wired and wireless security cameras in various places around our home and garage. Recently we’ve learned through a neighborhood message board that prospective burglars are becoming more brazen and are casing out local homes in broad daylight. We decided to try out this Ring Spotlight camera and have found it to be the perfect solution to our needs. Since our driveway has a sliding electric gate, we already had a suitable electrical outlet to connect the camera to nearby and we found the installation process to be very simple and straightforward, resulting in a very discrete installation. Despite the fact that our gate is about 90 feet from our U-Verse wifi gateway, the camera connects well and provides good images and notifications although they can be a little pixelated at times which is probably due to the distance involved (Ring recommends 30’ for the best results). See the video in this review for examples of the picture quality. The Ring app works well with our Android 8 (Oreo) and Apple 5c phones and it allows a wide range of customization for the functions of the camera including creating motion zones which allows you to exclude motion from areas of the camera like the passing traffic on the street outside our home. When someone or something enters the motion zone, the camera begins recording and the Ring app sends a notification to your mobile phone or tablet. Even though we don’t have a doorbell at our gate, the Ring app has let us know that people or deliveries had arrived so that we could deal with them so it has uses that go beyond simple security. In the evenings, the camera will switch into night vision mode however if a vehicle or person enters the motion zone, the built in floodlight illuminates which provides a brightly lit view of whomever or whatever has set off the alarm. It is also useful as a motion light to light up our driveway when we got home after nightfall. The light can also be switched on and off using the Ring app. If an unwanted guest shows up, you can communicate with them through the two way speaker/microphone in the camera and your mobile phone and there is even a built in 110 decibel siren that can be activated from the mobile app if you want to scare someone away. To me the most impressive aspect of the product was the simplicity of the installation. Ring has thought of everything by including a special mount that includes a built in bubble level, a masonry drill for the wall anchors, cable clips and a very simple and straightforward set of instructions. Before you even try to mount the camera, you plug it in close to the home wifi server (we use U-Verse) and download the app and link the camera to the app and your Ring account. After this, you can take it outside, complete the mounting of the camera outdoors and switch it on and it will pair with the wifi server automatically. The power lead is about 20’ long however in our case, we had an exterior electrical junction box on our gate pillar, so I cut off the surplus cable and simply spliced the Ring power cable into the junction box with a watertight connector and some wire nuts. When you strip the cable’s outer sheath, the internal wires are colored green, black and white making it easy to join the neutral, live and ground wires properly. The power cable is even paintable if you want it to blend in more closely with your exterior décor. I’m sure that snipping the plug off the power cable probably voided the warranty but I got the installation I was looking for! I probably spent about 2 hours on the entire installation. The only gripe I have is that even on its least sensitive ‘People only’ setting, the camera can still misinterpret the movement of tree shadows in the afternoon sun on a breezy afternoon and send out false notifications. The camera comes with a 30 day subscription to Ring’s server storage system however if you don’t want to subscribe, the system still sends notifications and allows you to download them to your phone or share them within a shorter time frame much like other security camera systems. This means you can continue to use it for free which is a good thing considering its price. According to Ring’s website, the cameras come with a 12 month non-transferable warranty, so if you sell your home and the camera fails in the first 12 months, the new owner doesn’t benefit from the warranty.

Not going to happen, too many limitations and faults---------------------------------------------------- This is an unbiased review that is unaffected by the fact that I received this product for free. As proof of impartiality, just click on my nickname and see the average of the ratings I have given over 200 reviews to date. ====First impressions==== Everything came in a hard-to-open box. I spent too much time trying to pull it open. Unit is fairly heavy because of the 20-foot electrical cord. There are even a few ordinary tools included. ====Installation==== I can't really comment on this much because I never got this far. I tested the unit in several places and found it to be very lacking in all. It is true that the cord has a plug at the end, but that does not mean that you cannot hard-wire it. Just cut off the cord, provide the conduit, and wire as normal. The cord is for convenience of installation and can be removed. The cord is very long at 20 feet. ====Evaluation==== This is NOT a spotlight. I keep seeing ads and claims of products being "spotlights" when they are not. This is a FLOOD light. A spotlight is focused on a single spot (hence the name). Stage theaters and certain vehicles used at night use spotlights. Fortunately I tested the product in several places before mounting it anywhere. I was very disappointed. First of all, I do admit that the video quality is excellent. It is a wide angle and very detailed view. The voice communications worked adequately. The alarm worked manually. However it seems to have a maximum range of about 30 feet. I have many other devices that can communicate at nearly 75 feet with my WiFI router. Since my house is more than 30 feet long, there are some places this could not be used. This unit functioned as a motion detector light exactly once at first and then NEVER again. I went over the setup (zones and other settings) many, many times and must assume that the unit is defective intermittently. Without that feature, there is no automatic light function. I could turn on or off the light in the app, but that doesn't help much. Also, sometimes I would get motion detection notifications on my phone even though the light did not come on. Sometimes, there was nothing but a record of motion detection in the app's event log. This unit does not store any recordings locally. You must pay for a remote service for that. That alone is a deal breaker for me. At the price of $200, it must provide at least 1 week of recording on it's own. In that regard, this product cannot compete with other brands that I have bought. ====Summary==== Great as a camera. Bad as a motion detector light. Jamie should have listened more to his wife, this was also a bad idea.
