Questions & Answers

does it had a monthly subscription ?

Asked by: Noel
Yes it’s three dollars per month or $30 per year but what ring doesn’t tell you is that you have to pay that per camera so if you own three ring items such as maybe the flood came this cam and ring doorbell you would be paying $30 a year for each item. I’m not sure why you can’t share the same account since you share the same app I guess it’s just another way for them to make a lot of money off of you I guess all the high-priced cameras and the ring doorbell isn’t enough money that they make

Is it possible to turn the spotlight feature off? I’d like to get one for the front of my well-lit townhouse.

And also one for the very dark back of my home. Doorbell isn’t an option because of the flat front. I just don’t want the bright spotlight to shine on every dog walker 4 feet from my door.
Asked by: Dominique
Yes, you can turn the spotlight off through the app.

can you explain us exactly how does it work ? do we need to call any security company like ADT to work or just download the app and connect to WiFi ?

I already have alarm system at home and we dont want any more payments if im going to buy this cam , i just want a vidieo camera for outside the house like this without additional payment ?
Asked by: Noel
This is Ring. They are stand alone system that does not interact with ADT. Power on, download the app, connect and then mount the cameras wherever you want that has wifi signal. If signal is weak, purchase and install a Ring wifi extender to boost signal (which in tern will improve video quality and lower any delay/buffering of video.

These came nicely packaged with very clear instructions. Mounting was very easy and adjusting for the angle was even easier with the Ring app. I also have the ring doorbell so it really is like ring of home security. The motion sensing is a good feature with lots of adjustments and customizable zones. The battery life on both of these should last me around a month (with using the motion light at night) which is very impressive (I may still pick up the solar panels to make these self sustaining). Image quality is excellent with a very wide angle lens. The cloud recording feature is so handy with being able to revisit who and what people were doing around your house. Overall, highly recommend!

Only... ** INSTALLATION ** This camera is wireless and that makes installation very quick and easy. Only four screws to secure the back place and that’s it. Just follow the easy instruction in the User Manual and you will have no trouble. Any DIYer can handle it easily. If mounting it on concrete or brick then you will need a drill but other than that everything is included to finish the installation. I installed it exactly at 9 feet high and kept the motion sensor parallel to the ground as recommended. Ring told me that it can be installed fully exposed to run/rain/snow etc. I personally do not think it is well sealed but ** PAIRING ** Paring took no time and connected to my Android 5.0 device right away. Just download the mobile app and follow intuitive app that guides you through every step. I have tested it paring with my router and also with my extender, paired fine with both. It pairs only with 2.4G band which is ok since 2.4G has better range than 5G. My internet speed is 200+ mbps and all my other devices run on it like a charm. When signal strength is good then the video lag in the Live Stream is about 3 seconds. When strength is excellent then the lag is about 1.5 seconds. ** BATTERY LIFE ** Ring says that fully charged battery will give you 1200 alerts. But then how do you gauge that if alerts are disabled? As I write this review, I have 48 alerts and 89% battery left. So let’s do the math: About 50 alerts per 10 percent, that comes to about 500 for 100% battery. So I guess you get a 1000+ alerts if you have two batteries installed. It comes with only one. With my usage, I do not think I would get more than a week out of it. That means, up on the ladder every 7 days and that’s not convenient. ** WHAT I LIKE ** I love the fact that there is no cabling involved, everything is wireless. Live view is a great feature and Siren trigger is awesome. The siren is not as loud as I thought but enough to scare someone away. I also like that I can control the motion and schedule when not to alert. Being able to view the battery status from the mobile app is very practical. All the recordings can be shared or downloaded instantly, I really like that. The size of each clip is about 6 MB, not bad at all. ** WHAT I DON’T LIKE ** This camera has great features but do all of them deliver consistently? No. Sometimes there is just black screen on the Live Stream instead of video feed. The two way voice is not always clear and streams considerable white noise. I can zoom-in within the Live View but it pixelates enough that it’s almost impossible to recognize a face beyond 8 feet. At night when a motion is detected, the light does not always come up. I would say about 40% of times the light didn’t turn on for me. When the light comes up, it stays on for 30 seconds and then turns off even if I am still there moving around. There are two slots for the battery but it comes with only one. I would rather have no built-in light but an extra battery to get more runtime. The battery re-charge time is somewhat long. Out of the box, it took more than 6 hours to charge one battery. The mobile app does not have a way to show multiple camera feeds on a single screen. There is no built-in memory, external memory or capability to store my recordings to my remote drive that’s on the same WiFi. You just have to buy a subscription to view your recordings after first 30 days of activating the cam. When triggering the siren, it prompts to confirm. I wonder how one would feel if you dial 911 and your phone says, “Are you sure to dial 911”? That prompt needs to go. Overall, the device offers some great features and some that need improvements. What’s considerably missing is the runtime. What it needs the most is consistency and clarity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great to have a two pack of cameras to add to my home security. This version of the Ring spotligh... Great to have a two pack of cameras to add to my home security. This version of the Ring spotlight cam is fully battery operated; there are separate versions that have a solar panel for charging or a twenty foot corded option. These battery powered units are great to place where you don't have an outlet and don't want to have an additional solar panel sticking out. I actually put both of these up on trees in my yard. Each camera has a compartment for two batteries; one is included for each and needs to be charged out of the box. If you want to get a second battery to extend the life (and not lose the function of the camera when you are charging one battery) you can purchase a second battery, currently only $20. You can tell which battery needs to be charged when you open the compartment by a red indicator LED. Battery life will depend on how often the camera detects motion and how often you use live viewing. Setup is straightforward and guided step by step in the smartphone app. If you have any connectivity or video/audio issues at all it means your wifi is not strong enough where you have the camera; you can test your wifi strength through the app under the "device health" option; just make sure to turn off your cell data usage so you don't falsely elevate the result. Otherwise call or chat with Ring Support....VERY helpful. Installation is basic and requires only four screws...make sure to drill pilot holes because they don't stand up to much torque. One extra screw is included. The phone app has good video to show install if you need it. The camera can be mounted on a wall or beneath an eave. For a wall, you need to turn the mounting bracket on the back of the camera 180 degrees (remove the weather protection button, push the upper release button and slide it out). There are three motion zones (side by side) so that you could turn portions off that you may want the camera to ignore like a busy street. The distance to sense motion can be customized as well. You can also tell the camera not to turn on the lights when it senses motion, so if you are more concerned with prolonging battery life and don't want to scare away visitors/animals with the light, just deselect it. The light and a very loud siren can be manually activated while viewing live video (start by tapping the "+" icon). Live viewing is free. After a 30 day trial you need a subscription to watch recorded video (which you'll want). Current rates are $3/month or $30/year per camera for cloud storage. Or you can get the "Plus" plan that covers an unlimited number of devices for $10/month or $100/year. No long term commitments. These cameras are a great addition to the Ring product line.

We've had it about 2 weeks and it is not working - randomly crackles/screeches very loudly for a few seconds after each time it detects motion, can not turn spotlight on/off from app, voice feature no longer works, does not follow schedule when not to detect motion, and connects live view to phone just only about half the time. I called customer support troubleshooting department thinking a company like this would have a plan of action to help - no troubleshooting steps were offered. I asked if I could return it - took 15 minutes on hold before she simply gave me an address with no direction how to return it (slap a USPS label directly on the product box and ship and hope for the best?). I really wanted it to work, and it did at first, but for some reason stopped and unfortunately my experience with customer service did not help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I recently replaced my walkway motion-detect enabled light with Ring's Spotlight Cam. I can only say the Spotlight Cam exceeded my expectations. This is my fourth Ring device and installation/programming was a snap. The sensor works very well and the zone definition is spot on. The motion sensor works really well and, unexpected, has improved safety for my guests as it comes on at night when people walk out of the front door but before they approach a step that has always been a hazard in the dark. Now the step is quickly exposed under the reach of the LCD lights. Way to go Ring!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ring.com has done it again. This is probably the most innovative security camera/motion activated alarm yet. This battery operated wi-fi camera has motion zone settings for precise detection zones. Light activation on motion activity or manual settings. Two way sound that’s as clear as a bell. Siren that can be manually activated. And the wide view of the camera is crystal clear and has a night vision mode on it as well. There are two led lights built into body that are bright. The installation is straight forward just follow instructions. Set up app (ios and android) with camera close to your router before installation outside. This kit comes with all the mounting hardware and tools needed for multiple types of install. This new unit has a removable battery pack for easy recharging. There is room for two battery packs but only one included in initial purchase of camera. Battery compartment is simple to access. Customer service makes it their business to make your ownership of ring products comfortable.
