Questions & Answers

How long are the recorded video saved? How much does it cost to have video saved?

Asked by: A2017
I don’t think the recordings are worth the cost but must admit when we saw large footprints in the snow I recently checked mine (during the trial period for my second one) and did see it was a meter reader. That was good.

Will the Person at your door know if you are looking at them?

If I'm avoiding people like say salesmen and I get alerted and view the camera does it make a noise or alert when I view?
Asked by: Ggs5
Not necessarily. You can activate the feature on your device to talk to the person outside the door by a press of a button, then they'll know you see them. Otherwise they won't know you see them.

After installing the Ring Video Doorbell 2, access to the video stream was functional but it would take a while to load up. There was also very consistent and loud white noise coming through. After a week or so of trying to use it we were fed up that we couldn't really understand what people on the other end were saying and how often we would miss a ring due to the latency issue we were having every single time we would connect to the device. We contacted Ring to try to diagnose the problem and they gracefully responded by sending us a free Ring Chime to improve connectivity (considering my 1GB mesh network reaches the other side of the street on my phone, I found this surprising). We installed the Ring Chime and both the white noise and the latency were still present. So we contacted Ring again, this time wanting to return the product. Ring did not allow us to return the product and we were completely out of time to return the product to Home Depot. IF IT DOESN'T WORK, DON'T GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO FIX IT, THEY WILL FAIL, RETURN THE PRODUCT IMMEDIATELY. We had no choice but to accept. A few weeks later we received the new Ring and returned the old one. We went through the installation process again and to our surprise the product was working a little bit better. We were able to connect to it relatively quickly and the white noise wasn't as bad but it was still there. Fast forward a couple of months and the new Ring seems bricked, we can't connect to it anymore (like never, it always seemingly times out in the application). We went ahead and bought a Nest Hello instead and it is working WAY BETTER than the Ring. It connects instantly, it integrates with our security system, and there is 0 white noise. All in all, if you're weighing between a Ring and a Nest, go for Nest. Nest products are clearly higher quality.

I am home alone, one night I thought I heard somebody trying to get in the front door, I get a lot of packages, and I like to see who is ringing the doorbell without opening the door. The set up was so easy, and I had a question and called the Ring support and they solved the problem. It detects motion as well. My phone receives an alert when there is motion and I can view it and it automatically records. The camera records as far out as my driveway. It also records in the dark! WOW! You can share videos with others in your neighborhood. At times I view what others have sent to share. I have had it for 3 months now and I am extremely happy with my purchase and feel more secure. I totally recommend this product. Here is a link to click on to see my Ring Doorbell in action. This creates a problem as the strength of the return signal necessary to detect a person (even at a relatively short distance) appears to be the same as that of a passing car. So if your Ring is pointed towards the street, you'll get constant false recordings even with a very, very short range setting. (Ring's answer to this is to point your Ring in another direction, but if you faces the street....) There is some delay between detection and the start of recording. If you set the distance too low, you may only see the *back* of the person who came to your door -- or maybe nothing at all. The system software has a delay feature. If the Ring picks up a reading - even a false one - and then someone comes to the door, then that "real" instance may not be recorded. Ring stores recordings on their server, meaning that you must buy a subscription. Competing products don't have this restriction.

For the price it should work. Had to buy the Ring Pro to help with wifi signal. No bi deal. My wifi signal to the Ring Doorbell on a scale of 0-99 was at 75 according to the app. I kept getting kicked off and the ring Doorbell and Ring Pro kept disconnecting. We have great wifi as I need it for work. After re-installing 4 times I was disgusted with the product and it's less than desirable issues. I know several people who have this product and they said they have to reconnect from time to time. What's the point of having it if it won't stay connected? It has you go through a set-up and it's not hard.....if it works. I am glad it has you do the entire set-up BEFORE you drill into your entry way or desired location because that would have been a real problem with holes in structure and no product. I am returning it tomorrow and happy to do so. Beware of "how easy" the set up is.

No local record of videos. Wifi failure, or simple wifi "jammer" disables all function. A sd card memory would be huge. Seems to have survived sub-zero weather, while my ring 1 (that I loaned out), seems to have failed, even after temperatures returned to normal. Obvious defective battery. I had a previous (video doorbell) I loved. It was only about $65. Actually one failed after a few months, then another, failed. It was great otherwise. Had sd memory. It just wasn't weatherproof enough to last 6 months. I bought ring 1 and 2 without any research. Duh! We'll see if ring fares better in durability. I did add a weatherproof sd (32 gb) capable (non doorbell) camera as backup, which is made by the previous company. Seems impervious. ~$65. Rimg needs to add a an sd memory slot and funtionality. They will lose some "cloud" business probably, but heck. Compete for goodness sake. Many will want both. Many would love you to succeed. Make it weatherproof as much as humanly possible! Give the engineers the chance.

This is my 3rd Ring doorbell purchase to make sure all of my exterior doors have them! I love how much more safe I feel having a video doorbell. The phone app allows me to speak with however is at my door when I'm not home and also allows me to press the live view button if I want to see what's going on around my house. There's a minimal yearly fee to record and keep the video's (around $30 per doorbell) which gives me the ability to show police if there's a break in or theft of packages. The wireless doorbell works with your internet so if you lose connection, your doorbell will not work. The battery itself slides out of the unit and is charged with a micro USB cord which is included. The battery loses charge faster if it's cold outside so you may have to charge it more frequently than expected. Your phone app will indicate how much charge is left on your battery and the Ring company will also send you an email to let you know that the battery needs to be charged. I love being able to know when my UPS or FedX driver arrives with packages! You can control on the app if you want to be alerted when there's motion (you can also set the distances of motion detection). There's so much this little doorbell can do and I much prefer this device over other alarm companies that require a monthly charge!

I should have looked into it more before I purchased it didn't know you had to pay for a cloud access in order to view a video. I dont carry a phone with me at work hours so if you do not have your phone on you and you do not hear the phone ring you don't get to see who was ever at your door doesn't do me any good. The whole purpose was to view people that walked on my porch but now if I'm not with phone in hand I don't ever get to see who comes to my porch which renders the whole camera useless. I know it's a small fee but it'll most likely be a fee that I will have to issue a credit card number they'll continue to bill you. Why can't the videos just be downloaded to your computer or your phone would make more sense to me but who am I just a fool that bought a product that I cannot use

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprisingly pleased I bought two for both entrances. After installing the first and began checking out its features I had to call my friend over to check it out. She loved it so much that I just gave her the second one as a gift. We love all the features especially the night vision. One feature that we both feel needs improved is the length of the recordings; continuous moving motions should be recorded longer. The other is the fact that many times the camera only records as the visitors are walking away so you don't see their faces, only their backsides, but it never fails to catch the school bus flying by every morning at 70 feet away! So it has a few little quirks but we still feel more comfortable having it. When things are better I will purchase another for my home to replace the one I gifted.
