The biggest piece of junk
After doing what is supposed to be the right thing for energy saving we bought this piece of crap Rinnai tankless water heater. The reason you save on natural gas is because you just give up waiting for hot water. So now other than showers it’s cold water for everything. Even the shower I turn on the hot water and have a shave in the meantime it takes that long to get hot water. As for reliable we have the plumber over at least every couple of months to fix it. I’m getting close to going back to a tank type water heater. What a disappointment

So far (2 weeks after install), this unit appears to be working as advertised. It performs consistently and we've not yet pushed the limits enough to run low on hot water. While you do get 'endless' hot water, there is a limit to how much it will make at once. In our area, the temperature rise required (delta T) is about 50 degrees. So according to Rinnai's website we should expect about 8 gallons per minute from this RUR199i, not the 11GPM mentioned in the title. The only (very) minor issue we've had with this one is that the manual is incorrect in the parameter settings for the recirc frequency. The settings for 'comfort' (6 cycles per hour) vs 'economy' (3 cycles per hour) are reversed from the documentation. I've verified this with a temperature logger. (Yes, I'm that much of a nerd). Beware installing this unit if you don't have significant experience with plumbing, venting and/or electrical. I would also recommend the add-ons that I've done to mine. I've installed a small thermal expansion tank on the cold side between the unit and the check valve to keep the pressure on the hot side from constantly spiking to 150PSI. And I added a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) on the power feed to help with short power outages. The wifi app that comes with it is very kludgy, buggy and barely functional. They should definitely invest more there to make it more functional and stable.

Impressed and some recommendations
I just moved in to my new place and the 50 gal traditional water heater was in need of replacement (hints of leaks surrounded the installation).
It was a somewhat hard choice since money savings was just marginal. A tankless had high installation cost and it wasn't clear if it would be recovered with the lowered energy usage. However, the original tank was shoe horned into a nook and made maintenance difficult (e.g. can't easily replace the anode) and it would be nice to use the recovered space for a water softener.
Decided on the RUR199i because of the reciculation feature.
Installed and mostly working like a champ! Still struggling with the Control-R app for adusting temperature. Haven't called Rinnai yet.
But there are some suggestions:
Mount it on a wall away from living spaces if possible. There is a low hum when it is in use and if it is mounted on a shared wall with a living space, you'll notice it. The noise is especially noticiable when the reciculation pump is running.
Use flexible connections if possible. Things are very tight and it'll save you quite a bit of time. I wanted a neat installation a with pressure valve and hose bibs and all pipes in-wall and that took most of the time.
Workout connection locations with the unit on the floor and be aware of the standoff distances from the wall as the cold water connections is close to the wall and if not properly planned could lead to a lot of headaches ;-)
If using hard pipe for the condensate drain, add a union to simplify future maintenance (e.g. if you need to remove the unit).

Energy Efficient!
Always had a hot water heater so no previous experience with a tankless water heater. Takes a while for water to heat after turning on hot tap but once water is hot it continues for as long as needed.

Excellent energy savings
Our Rinnai has been fantastic in saving money on electric bill. I like that it is so energy efficient using propane at a minimal cost. We have had it a little over a year. The only thing I dislike is the amount of time it takes for the hot water to travel from the garage where located to the master bath at the far end of the house.
