I have a conventional gas water heater currently that passively exhausts vertically through the roof along with my gas furnace. Do I need a different exhaust method to use a tankless model?

I did it for myself, but I am not a plumber. I did get a roofer to install the exhaust and I did hire a plumber to do the connections, in all, I spent 1200 in labor, but everything else, I did on my own.

Yes, as long as the part number specifies it is for condensing. Those part numbers usually end in PP. --Tashay
