Does this moisture barrier have adhesive on it where seams would be?

Asked by: Cowboy
It has an adhesive strip along the outer border only, in case you were doing a larger area.

do I have to use this on my main level or is this for basements only? (I have a plywood subfloor on my main level)
Asked by: amy
Thank you for your inquiry. The Moisture barricade is generally used on concrete subfloors. It isn't advisable to install a moisture barrier film over a wooden substrate (without proper ventilation below ie crawl space) If a moisture issue is the driving force behind the moisture barrier film application: always confirm with the flooring manufacturer the moisture barrier/plastic sheeting application requirements.

Should moisture barricade polyethylene underlay film be used under laminate flooring put in a mobile home that is open underneath?
Asked by: Dan
I would use the moisture barrier as a precaution since it's fairly inexpensive and will block humidity from under the mobile home. Since the surface of the moisture barrier is slippery it may also allow the laminate to contract and expand more easily without binding.

I have a storage building that does not have a foundation underneath. I had planned on installing thin plywood underneath the joists of the floor and then putting the insulation in. The subfloor would go on top of course. So the insulation wouldn't be getting any air at all because it would be sitting between the plywood underneath and the subfloor on top. Is this ok? What I'm wanting to know about this 6 mil stuff is can I attach it to the plywood that sits underneath the floor joists to protect the insulation from possible mold or any other problems? Can someone help me out and let me know if this is a good idea or am I going about this all wrong? I don't know a thing about insulation.
Asked by: RamseyJr
Hi Ramsey! Climate plays a huge role in this question. We recommend our 6 mil poly film to protect flooring from moisture vapor over concrete slabs. If you are covering a wood subfloor with a 6 mil poly sheet, moisture will become trapped and will eventually cause mold and/or rotting. We also recommend consulting with the insulation company for more installation tips. Thanks so much for your interest in our products!

I wanted to use this in my house during a major floor remodel (over 1000 sq feet of laminate flooring put in). The contractor convinced me that a better way to go was to spend more money and get an underlayment with padding. I followed his suggestion. The Roberts material might be OK in an area without traffic (e.g., closets) but not in heavily used areas like bedrooms and hallways. Or, if your flooring has a cork bottom, as some do, you might be OK with the Roberts film. For most people, I think my contractor was right. Spend the extra money for a padded underlayment and you will be happy in the long run.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total garbage! Don’t waste your time. I put this under our laminate floor which called for a vapor barrier only (no additional padding, as the padding was already attached to each plank). After getting about 1/2 of the floor down, I realized you could hear the crinkle of the plastic under the floor with each step. I thought maybe it would subside over time, but we left the flooring down for a week and it was still the same. We’re going to take it all back up today and start over with a different underlayment. Save yourself the expense and aggravation and buy something else which lays completely flat and doesn’t make this annoying noise!

We just installed it a couple days ago over concrete to put under laminate floors. First, the sheet is literally 10 by 12, which in and of itself made it challenging to handle. But to make matters worse, the material was folded and extremely wrinkled, making it difficult to smooth. You can hear the crinkle noise under the laminate. :( Boo HD for carrying such a bad product.

Although, the sticky strip that is on 1 side doesn't seem to stick very well to a concrete surface, but sufficient enough if stuck on the overlapped plastic covering.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very crunchy sounding under floor These rolls have so many wrinkles and creases in them that it sounds crunchy when you step on the finished floor. It doesn't annoy me enough to redo it but I wish I would've went with something else
