what is the coverage on real repurposed 100 year old wood planks tongue in groove 2 1/4 inch wide by 3/4 inch thick?

Asked by jorge June 10, 2021

Answer

1. How I understood your question: You have right now engineered wood flooring glued on concrete and want to replace it with real wood planks? 2. If yes: I also think you will take a great effort to scrape off all remaining glue and make sure your floor is level (maybe fill in some lower parts with a special leveling concrete. Your new planks are very stiff and you do not want hollows underneath that make them sound like drums when you walk over them. 3. When I used the glue, I went by the recommendation on the container but was a little more generous to make sure I had no air bubbles underneath, which assures that walking over it is quieter. So consider 10 to 20% more. - My planks were 5" wide with various lengths. After laying it down, you can walk over it but it really takes some time until the glue holds your planks tight in place. Therefore I worked in small daily increments to make sure they were staying parallel. (Professionals actually drive thin steel nails once ever so often to hold them in place. That way they can do the whole floor at once without risking to end up not being parallel to the wall on the opposite sied.)

Response from The ManufacturerFeb 26, 2021
Roberts understands installations can be difficult. Please review 1407 product information for a better understanding of performance. This product is not recommended for engineered wood flooring that is >1/2" thick, more than 5" wide, or for solid wood flooring. You may want to consider a polyurethane 100% solids adhesive specific to wide board tread application. QEP

Using this product to install Bruce Engineered Hardwood over cement throughout the house. It is adhering great to give a secure floor connection. Clean up is fairly easy with soap and water. The only issue is if it is humid or rainy on install days there is a lot more tackiness (sticky feel) on the floors and drying time is extended. Shoot for install on a low humidity day.

Finally, an office chair pad that looks good !
I was tired of plastic office chair pads that scratched, attracted dust, moved around constantly on my carpet and just plain looked cheap. I also tried a bamboo chair pad but that one wasn’t ridgid enough and it fell apart in no time. In both cases the store-bought pad were always a compromise in regards to size and fit. So, I decided to design and build an office chair pad using engineered hardwood flooring. To do this I needed an easy to use flooring adhesive to bond the engineered hardwood to a ½” thick MDF backer. This gave me the weight and stiffness I wanted to make the chair roll easily and the pad stay in place. The Roberts No. 1407 adhesive troweled on easily and gave me plenty of working time. I framed the chair pad with hardwood trim for a nice, finished look. I’m proud of the finished product and my wife loves it.

Good Glue.
I had to continue some hardwood flooring in Phoenix on a home we just purchased. The previous owner laid glued down hardwood. I needed about a bucket and a half of this stuff to do about 265 SF. It works well and it easy to use. Just a 1/8" trowel and slap the boards down. It does create a very quiet walking surface as opposed to having a vapor barrier or nailing it down (nailing was not an option, laid on a solid slab). It's a little pricey and doesn't go very far in dry climates (nature of living in the desert) but all in all a great glue.
