Product Overview

ROBERTS 2057 Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT) Adhesive is a clear, solvent-free, water-based, thin-spread adhesive that provides excellent grab and high residual tack. This superior grade adhesive brushes, rolls or trowels on and helps hold tiles firmly in place, even when subjected to repeated cleaning and mopping. When spread thinly as instructed, the adhesive dries correctly and turns clear, allowing chalk lines to remain visible. This adhesive is also suitable for installing vinyl-composition or vinyl-asphalt tile over existing vinyl-composition or vinyl-asphalt subfloors that are free from waxes, sealers and finishes.
  • For adhering vinyl composition tile (excluding self-stick), including tile-over-tile installation
  • Bonds with concrete, APA rated plywood, one layer of existing and finish free VCT, aged cutback adhesive residue, primed gypcrete (refer to ASTM F2419) and terrazzo
  • Ideal for direct bond and double bond installation
  • Moisture Control Adhesive - up to 8 lbs. MVER and 85% RH
  • Thin-spread adhesive dries clear in up to 24 hours with the restriction of foot traffic and moving heavy objects
  • Approximately 160 to 180 sq. ft. per gallon coverage when applied with a 1/16 in. x 1/16 in. x 3/32 in. U-notch trowel and 170 to 190 sq. ft. per gallon coverage when applied with a 1/16 in. x 1/16 in. x 1/16 in. square-notch trowel
  • Enviro-friendly, solvent-free and LEED compliant; VOC < 1 g/L, SCAQMD Rule 1168
  • Protected by GoldGuard, an antimicrobial protection system that inhibits the growth of mold, mildew and odor causing bacteria in both wet and dry adhesives
  • CRI Green Label Plus Certified - GLP no. 3647
  • 15 year moisture control, 15 year direct bond, 7 year double bond limited warranty
  • Do not expose freshly applied adhesive to water for 4 days or to standing water for 4 weeks

Sticks well! Both the tile and my fingers stuck well together. Less is more on this product so as you push down you wont have to clean excess from the seam lines which will get sticky fingers. Tile is holding well as it should.

This product is easy to use, but is a VERY sticky substance, especially if it gets on surfaces you weren't intending. But it cleans up well with just soap and water which is very convenient. Use a tub or bucket of hot soapy water for clean up. Then you can spill the used water outside somewhere. I would never put this stuff down the drain! And I would recommend having some mineral spirits on hand, as well, just to clean up any glue, once it has dried. I'd also suggest some solvent based hand cleaner. Wearing rubber gloves doesn't work, since the gloves fingers will stick together if you should get any glue on them. Also, a word or warning: Be very careful about placing each tile you put down, because once it's in place, it is VERY difficult to lift or move it at all. I made one error, after laying a tile, and I actually had to destroy the tile in order to pull it up from the glue. Yes, it's that strong!

Roberts 2057 Premium Vinyl Tile Adhesive, what you need to know! First of all, laying VCT tile is not a very easy DIY task. This is a pass/fail project, there is no middle ground. Either your glue and tiles will hold very well, or not really at all...it's all in the installation. I think most of the negative reviews here reflect poor installation, not a poor product. Here are a few pointers to make your floor installation a success using Roberts 2057 Premium Vinyl Tile Adhesive. TIPS: Clean the entire area around the work area of dust and debris to ensure none is tracked into the area being tiled. Have multiple rags and clean warm soapy water available at all times to clean up any accidental glue spills or glue on the face of a tile, and clean as SOON as it happens. Be very deliberate when handling the glue, it is super sticky and can get out of hand really fast if not handled carefully. Done correctly you should have zero glue cleanup once installed. Do not take for granted the temperature and humidity of the installation area and be certain you are within the installation parameters! Avoid any major swings in temperature during the installation, and during the drying period. Take your time when spreading the glue, do not rush it. This glue is watery and runny for a reason folks, it allows you around an hour of open time to spread the glue. Use a 1/16 in. x 1/16 in. x 3/32 in. u-notch flooring trowel and spread the glue as evenly as you can without extra ridges. DO NOT apply more glue than the trowel allows. This glue acts like contact cement, and less is more. Wait until the glue dries! This is VERY CRUCIAL. If the glue is still yellowish, it is not ready. This can take from 30 minutes to a few hours or more depending on temperature. Make sure you keep the room above 65 degrees Fahrenheit, and have good circulation to exhaust the moist air out of the area while the glue evaporates and dries. Once the glue dries you have around 6-10 hours to lay the tiles and still maintain proper adhesion. Single rooms and smaller areas can be done all at once, but larger areas might need to be broken up into smaller sections...so plan accordingly on larger floors. Last but not least...roll the floor with a 100lb roller. Do not skip this step. Roll slowly and completely in both directions. This tool can be rented from Home Depot for about $24/day.
