Questions & Answers

Can I use a very large metal pot it's 12 inches across and 11 inches high. Will be on for at least 4 hours

Asked by: HE
Also 4 hours is a long time for this unit to be on. I tried using it to simmer liquids and it boiled at the lowest setting of 150 degrees.

I hesitate to recommend this but once you get used to how it cooks it should work well for high heat applications. I wanted this as a more versatile version of the electric skillet but unfortunately the minimum temperature is too high for low heat cooking like simmering. The pot that comes with it is thin metal with a contoured bottom. Would be fine for a hot pot or fondue or to quickly heat sauces or liquids. The glass lid fits on nicely. Temperature setting is in 50 degree increments between 150 and 450 degrees Fahrenheit. At 150 degrees the water is 195 degrees in 15 minutes without a lid. at 200 degrees it is 205 degrees in 15 minutes without a lid. Everything higher hits a boil quickly. I did not test oil so can only give you the results for lower settings. As soon as I put on a lid it goes to a boil even at the 150 degree setting. I tested on 4 different pots and pans and they were all within a few degrees of each other. If your only use is to fry, saute, hot pot / fondue this should work fine. Not useful for simmering liquids in a covered pot. The fan is pretty loud. It would impede conversion if you are with a few feet of it. When timer counts down to zero it shuts off. A very nice feature. Timer is a bit awkward to set. Quick timer is in 30 minute increments up to 3 hours. If you want less than 30 minutes count up to 60 minutes then it rolls over to 1 minute. You can then increase it in 1 minute increments. It does look nice. Feels sturdy. sleek design. Would easily be a five star item if it had a 150 or 200 watt setting to allow for simmering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect addition to a cook's kitchen! I have been watching the market for induction ranges for the past two years, and to my dismay, they haven't dropped in price at all. It seems they just aren't getting enough traction in the market to reach economies of scale. That didn't stop me from looking, however, as I was keen to use my high-end gas range a bit less, as I prefer not to have gas burning in my kitchen with my toddler around. Therefore, I was overjoyed when this countertop induction cooker came to my attention. Was it the perfect addition to my kitchen? Yes, but I have plenty more to say. Here's what I really like about this cooker: (1) I get the benefits of induction cooking without spending $2,000+ on a range, and giving up my superior gas oven just to get that range. In fact, this cooktop is an absolute bargain at around $50. (2) works with all my stainless steel and cast iron cookware. No, it won't work with teflon-coated aluminum stuff, but I got rid of these products a long time ago. If you have no steel or iron in your kitchen right now, you can get by with the included steel pot. (3) Heats up instantly and maintains a steady temperature - that's the point! (4) Easy to clean, due to glass cooktop. Much easier than a gas range! Here are the minor drawbacks of the device: (1) whenever the device is plugged in and turned off, a red light blinks to indicate it's ready. I find this quite annoying. I'd prefer to just have a steady light, if any light is necessary. My other kitchen devices, such as a toaster oven, don't blink at me just to show that they are plugged in. (2) getting used to the wattage figures versus "high-medium-low" takes some time. It would be great if the wattage settings (300W to 1800W) also had a general indicator of strength, so you didn't have to ballpark it in your head. Like say I want medium heat - I'd ballpark 1000W, but it could be more user-friendly. Ultimately, you'll learn how to cook based on watts instead of high-medium-low, and it will actually be more precise, but again, most people don't think that way yet. By the way, you can also set heat by temperature, but I don't think that way at all since I'm coming from a gas range that had no such setting. (3) when you lift the pot off the burner, error code E1 flashes, it beeps, and the device temporarily shuts off. This is a helpful safety feature, but it's annoying when you're flipping an omelette or mixing a stirfry. Luckily, as soon as you put the pan down, the heat will turn back on, so it doesn't forget what you were doing a moment before. (4) A timer function allows you to have the device turn off at a set time, which is fantastic. The only problem: you set the time using the +/- buttons, and it works very counter-intuitively: + adds minutes, - adds seconds. Yes, you read that right, they both increase the time! The +/- are intended mainly for setting temperature, so additional labels should be added to the device to show "add min/add sec". (5) Fan noise. Yes, this is always going to be an issue with induction cooktops, as the sensitive electronics have to be protected. I think it's a fair tradeoff, as I always ran my exhaust fan at high when using my gas range, and with this, I can run a much lower exhaust fan (or none at all if just boiling water, for example). Note that the fan will stay on for a minute or two after cooking has ended to rid the device of remaining heat. Overall, I'm really, really impressed with this device, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the future of cooking without shelling out $2,000+ for an induction range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The higher wattage is worth it This induction cooker and pot are great for deep frying chicken thanks to the precise temperature you can set it at. Also, while the included pot is pretty thin and might not seem like the best, it actually works very well with the cooker by heating the water, oil, etc. up to temp very quickly, so you're up and cooking in no time. The thinness of the pot also helps the cooker sense the temperature of what is in the pot better versus if you were using a heavier gauge pot. It's induction, so it turns off immediately, and being 1800 watts instead of the lower wattage units, it reaches the temperature we need faster. We use it to cook outside now that its warm and also to keep things like baked beans warm while we grill.
