Is it paintable?
Item 5947 Gunstock moulding cannot be painted due to it has a paper wrap finish. You can purchase item 5947 white SKU#901600 that can be painted, we recommend you use 100% acrylic latex paint.
I have to splice two pieces together. What color and brand of filler would work best?
Because it cuts so smoothly very little was required. We used Varathane wood stain ribbed onto the joint very lightly in "Gunstock".
is this durable enough to be a chair rail?
No, it is not recommended to be used as a chair rail.
I used this only at the floor but I think it might not be the best choice for a chair rail - primarily because of the shape.
