Can this shelf be cut to measure 24" rather than the 36"?

Answersyes, very easily with a hand saw or electric saw. I cut mine down to 25 inches.
Are these wood inside with black laminate? Can they be cut to length in the store? Thank you.

AnswersYes they are laminated and if you cut them you would have an unfinished edge to deal with. I that edge isn't exposed then you would be able to have them cut in the store.

AnswersUse a laminate or plywood blade in your circular saw. BEFORE CUTTING, deeply scribe the cut line on BOTH SIDES of the shelf with a sharp knife. Then, clamp on a straight-edge as a guide for the saw.

These shelves are a great value for the price (already painted -- you gotta love that!!). As other people have noted, a lot of the black boards have scratches. I suggest picking through the boards carefully to make sure they're unscratched.
That said, they're fairly straightforward to install if you have drywall (no hardware included) -- unfortunately I have plaster and lath, so needed to use toggle bolts, making the process more tricky and time-consuming. Also, I love that you have choices when it comes to the brackets -- I chose another brand that was compatible with Rubbermaid (just liked the style better). Anyway, they're perfect for my office (wouldn't use them in a living room, though..) If you're handy with a drill, level, measuring (twice) ... go for it!
