Trouble finding bags to fit

Which brand fits? Even when I find 30 gallon size they don’t fit well.
Asked by: Susie
I tried 30 gallon bags but they are a stretch to fit, so now I use Rural King 40 gallon bags. They are too large, but that's better than too small.

Do the handles hold up? Garage guys HARD on handles, even broke a brand new Toter can handle.

Thanks to all who answered. I meant to say garbage pick up guys, but you figured that out. I have a Rubbermaid can with wheels which isn't available any more and it's the ONLY can the garbage guys haven't broken the handles on. The handles on this can are different, which led to the question. I've been through a number of cans, some which the handles were broken after only a few pickups (and these are expensive cans). I did make the company replace the new Toter can they broke (the attached lid off) second time it was put out. Mainly the cans are used for limbs, mostly lightweight tree limbs and trimmings, so no reason I can see to be so destructive. If I, an older woman, can move the can, it's not that heavy. And I've hauled them all over an acre plus without breaking even one handle. I'd be delighted to get 5 years out of a can. Since I can't change the garbage company, I continue to look for a can that the handles will hold up to rough treatment. I'd buy another Rubbermaid can like I have immediately if they still made them. Thank you again for your help, especially since the can has to be ordered!

I have a much older (even earlier than 1990s), powder blue version of this 30 gal waste/garbage can, and have been looking for a replacement FOREVER. But because the lid got lost long ago and the old can doesn't have the maker's logo on it, I had no idea of the brand. Based on reviews on a number of sites, especially one from a contractor who indicated he'd been using these Roughnecks for years, I bought one can. Sure enough, this new Rubbermaid Evergreen Roughneck is (almost exactly) the same as my old blue one. One note of difference, other than the new (much less obtrusive color) is that this version seems to be slightly more tapered from top to bottom, although the volume is the same (the new one stacked snugly inside my old one). The new color is more of a blackish green than the photograph, which appears greenish-chocolate brown, but it's very nice. Just like the old one: the can is just as thick, and the "plastic" has some give to it, which is excellent because I often leave the can out in the elements and the hard/shiny plastic cans get brittle very quickly. I did not want to go to the store to haul the can home, but was able to meet the minimum dollar amount for free shipping to home, so the price of $35 and change was better than any of the other online retailers even with their free shipping. I gave 5 stars for value at the price I paid--I'd give 4 stars at the higher (by about 10 dollars or more) price I've seen elsewhere. Shop around for the best price. If you don't have one of these cans, it's hard to tell from the dimensions listed what the real size is. If you are space-constrained (as I am, and often even a half inch matters!), please note that the body of the can itself is 28 inches tall (base to top of lip of the can) BUT the lid is not flat, it "bumps up" from the edges to middle/center, so the total height of the lid is approx. 6.5 to 7 inches more (very hard to measure accurately). If you add the height of the can (28 inches) to the lid the total height is about 34-35 inches. If you need to keep the lid on your can and have only 28 inches of height in your space, this gem of a can might not work for you. Please also note that the handles on the lid are somewhat shorter than the handles on the can itself, but they do stick out from the lid, as opposed to being indented into it. Also, the listed dimensions of the can and lid are somewhat incomplete and confusing. It was difficult to make full measurements (and I'm not good at it in any event), but here goes: CAN--Can from outer edge of can handle to outer edge of opposite can handle: 26.5" (very hard to measure). Can height: 28". Can body (i.e. excluding handles) at top opening 21.5" long exterior (20" long interior, meaning that there is a lip that runs around the top of the can that protrudes into the interior of the opening) x 16" wide exterior (14.5" wide interior, because of the lip). Can body at BASE (exterior measurements only): approx. 17" long x 12" wide. LID--Lid from outside edge of lid handle to outside edge of opposite handle: approx. 23.75-24" long. Lid height at center/middle of top: approx. 6.5-7" high. Lid length EXcluding handles: 21.5" long. Lid width: 16" wide (where lid sits immediately on top of the can). Please don't hold me to these being super-precise measurements. There are a lot of indentations and ridges that are difficult to measure. But because I still have an old can for comparison, I can say with a good degree of certainty that this is pretty much the 30 gal Rubbermaid Roughneck of old, just in a more neutral color.

ALL our round ones blew away or into street and were hit by traffic. Also these rectangular cans last at least 6 years before showing any wear unless hit by cars. The older one is at least 10 years old. It has a big missing area because trash pick up people tossed it in street. However it is still usable. I hope I can reinforce it where a triangular section of can rim about 7 inches log vertically is missing. I just wish I could afford a few more. Wish the new lid were green not beige. Good sturdy handles.

I like the Rubbermaid Roughneck pails because they are sturdy, the lids stay on andthey are not apt to roll down the street on a windy day - they're rectangular. I bought three - two are for recycling (I call 311 and get the stickers which I cut in sections and adhereto the lids and bottoms, distinguishing blue from green). My first set of these pails lasted more than a decade of dragging them down 15 concrete steps to the curb every week. i think they're great.

I needed an additional can to hold the contents of large dog food bags. This prevents water and critter damage. The rectangular size saves space in the barn and functions better for scoping dog food than a round can. I can line several of these containers up in a compact and tidy row. The size is helpful in that it easily holds the content from 2+ bags. It is very helpful to be able to obtain additional, identical cans on a reliable basis.

I like to use it for yard clean up. I find the rectangular shape to be more stable than the round trash containers. Home Depot was the only place I could find that carried this trash can. It was great to be able to order it online and pick it up at the store when it was delivered to the store.

The lids could be a little heavier. Kind of flimsy and definitely would not stand up to the usual mishandling by refuse collectors. For my purpose they are appropriate. My old Roughneck cans were much more sturdy. I had them for 35 years. Way of the world today.

Nothing was wrong with it, we just needed another one. I'm sure this one will last like the first . How many things can you say that about? Love that it's still made without the wheels. Not everything needs to be moved around .

I find them very durable and the lids fit very securely which was my motivation for buying them. I live in a windy, coastal community and when putting trash out it sometimes found it;s way out of the can. I highly recommend.
