Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for reaching out. Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray Paint works best on weathered/worn fabric, outdoor polyester or polyester blend fabrics! It is not recommended on new or treated fabrics, which are designed to repel water and make water based paint difficult to apply. A:  No, I don’t believe so. It really did not work well on my patio umbrella fabric. For what I spent on paint, I could have purchased a new umbrella. The paint did not cover well and dried in a splotchy mess. Maybe it would work better on a smaller project

            Neat idea
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried this on my patio cushions. I have always hated the colour of my patio cushions so I was really excited. Easy to apply. Took 2 cans to do three coats but unfortunately after three coats it still has a kind of tie dye look to it. Maybe it’s the type of material I was spraying. I still like it more than the cream it was before. I would still recommend this as long as you know what outcome you’re looking at.

              Truly a finger painting exercise
This product has obviously never been tested. The can clogs within seconds of use. I ended up having a bowl of hot water to dip the top and applying the paint that dribbled out with my hands. Be prepared to be frustrated. If you manage to get the paint on your cushions, the color was a great match and this would have been a five star product But it’s not

Oh no, not something we like to hear. Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray Paint is a heavily pigmented coating, vigorously shaking the can for at least one minute once the mixing ball begins to rattle, and fully depressing the spray nozzle when in use, typically results in excellent spray. Give us a call at 800-481-4785, so we can hear more about your application and try to make things right.

                Waste of $$$
Does not cover well and I used one entire can for one side. Buying new cushions would be WAY cheaper and better.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Melanie. Each can of Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray Paint has a recommended coverage of 5.5 square feet. The coverage rate will be affected by the condition and type of fabric as well. Older, more porous fabric will have less coverage. Apply a light coat, waiting 30 minutes between each additional coat. Too many coats or heavy application could result in a stiffer feeling fabric. We would like to hear more about your experience using Outdoor Fabric Paint, give us a call at 800-481-4785, and we can try to make things right.

Paint worked for me - look at photos
Product is as advertised. It revived the color of my sun bleached patio cushions. I used a similar color because the product is pricey. Coverage is pretty good. It took 2 cans to cover 4 chair cushions. Front took 3 coats, but I only put 2 coats on the back to conserve paint. No discount on buying a case as per Home Depot website. Overall, I'm pleased with the quality and coverage and would recommend. Not sure I would recommend if changing color (like from red to turquoise) as this may take twice the paint. Make sure you let paint dry (about 30 minutes) in between coats.

                Challenging but Ok
I'm pleased with the end result, it looks 10 times better than before. I use 3 cans for a 10 foot outdoor solar umbrella. You will need a needle to unplug the nozzle after every few sprays when it stops spraying, so lots of patience. Price is way too high (16+tax) for how inconvenient and not user friendly this spray is. But! Is better than buying a new umbrella. Did 3 application, with sun and underneath the umbrella you can see dark and light spots from where I over spray. Still I'm happy.

                  Doesn't Work
I am an experienced DIY person and this paint doesn't work. After 4 coats of paint, you can see by the pictures, it still looks terrible. The product description says that it is soft to the touch, this is not the case for me. My cushions are now hard and rough from the paint. Not only am I out $100 for this terrible product, I now need to buy new cushions.

                    This spray destroyed my pillows
I purchased a bottle and followed the instructions. It kept splattering as I moved in a left to right motion trying to evenly spray the pillows. Then the nozzle stopped working prior to being halfway through the can and would not spray anymore. I tried it again the next day and no change. I returned the spray to a different location and picked up two more bottles hoping one of them would work. The same thing occurred with both! My heart sunk because now my pillows to my new couch are ruined!

                      Worked for me!
I figured I'd try this product on our outside rug before I went and spent hundreds on a new one. Ours was extremely faded. Because of the pattern it took a bit to tape off but we are extremely happy with the end result. For a 8x11 rug it covered in 4 cans which did 2 coats, but I did a quick last coat with a 5th can. Here's a before an after

That's not what we expect to hear, Linda! To ensure the best results with Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray Paint, it is essential that the can is shaken for a full minute before each use and shaken often during your application. If the nozzle becomes clogged, it can be removed and rinsed with warm water.

                        Amazing results
I know it says not to use on sunbrellas but I wanted to see if it worked. Took 2 cans for a standard sized market umbrella. Do multiple thin coats. Dramatic results, looks brand new.
