Can you use this on Sling Fabric?

Asked by MSM June 6, 2021
1
Answer

Thank you for your response. Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray works best on weathered and worn fabric, outdoor polyester, or polyester-blend fabrics! It is not recommended on new or treated fabrics which are designed to repel water and make water-based paint difficult to apply. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Asked by Susan May 26, 2021

Answer

Happy to help, Susan! We do not recommend spraying Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray Paint into another container and brushing it on, since the coating will be much thinner this way and won't provide the intended coverage. Instead, we recommend masking off the areas you don't want painted. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

I used it on a couch, but I don’t see why you couldnt use it.

I bought this instead of having my cushions replaced because of the price for having them recover...

Asked by Wondering May 3, 2021

Answer

Happy to help. Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Paint will not rub off on clothing after the paint has fully cured (dried). At 70°F and 50% relative humidity, the paint will dry in 24 hours. Allow more time in cooler and more humid conditions. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

Will this cover patterns? If so, how many coats?

Asked by Strbabie May 2, 2021
1
Answer

Happy to help. Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Paint can be applied over patterns, the number of coats required is dependent on the color being painted. Each can of Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray Paint has a recommended coverage of 5.5 square feet. The coverage rate will be affected by the condition and type of fabric as well. Older, more porous fabric will have less coverage. Apply a light coat, waiting 30 minutes between each additional coat. Too many coats or heavy application could result in a stiffer feeling fabric. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

How do you get rid of the odor? We painted them a week ago and the odor is so strong that I don’t want to sit on it

Asked by Momof3 April 23, 2021
1
Answer

Thank you for reaching out! While our Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Sprays are water-based, and cleanup with soap and water, there is a propellant and ethanol odor that should dissipate fairly quickly as the coating dries. After the surface has been allowed to dry for 24 hours, it is fully dry, and it may be cleaned or even machine washed after 72 hours of curing. Washing the items down with warm, soapy water and rinsing should remove any latent odors. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

Can u change the original color to a new color

Asked by La April 22, 2021
1
Answer

Thanks for reaching out to us! You can certainly change the color of the Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Paint by simply applying your new color over the top. We recommend that you consider light coats to avoid any thickness or cracking on the fabric. We hope this helps! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1

A great way to revive your cushions!
If you've used spray paint before on metal it is the same way you need to pay on the fabric. Keep a dry cloth or paper towels on hand to pat any blobs. Touch up after 48 hours to make sure it completely dried. It's a great alternative to replacing your cushions!! Much less expensive.

Coverage is somewhat sparse so I needed 2 cans. But once you have complete coverage the color is vibrant. My outdoor pillows were faded by the sun.

I am so happy with the results and the fact I could extend the life of my patio cushions at the fraction of the cost of replacing them! The key is light coats, drying between coats. I highly recommend this product!

Need to use a dry sponge to prevent blotches
There was definitely a learning curve. Only a graffiti artist could use this without another tool. I used a dry sponge to move the product to prevent blotches. I found working with smaller sections was also helpful and it turned out pretty great with my method. With all the negative reviews and videos I think they need me to do a training video!

Thank you for sharing your experience using our Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray. Applying several thin coats, each perpendicular to the previous coat, will also help ensure complete and even coverage. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

Inside job!!!
Used this on vintage slipper chair for inside. Loved the coverage. So excited it comes on many colors. I also added a top sealer product to protect.

Ruined my old, but functional seating
I picked up a few cans of this in the hopes of sprucing up some old, but perfectly functional, outdoor seat pads. This product is AWFUL. It goes on basically translucent, turns out incredibly splotchy (and I washed and thoroughly allowed the pads to dry in preparation), and a single can doesn't go far at all. Avoid at all costs- for what you'd need in cans, even if this worked well, it would cost more than just replacing your seating entirely.

That is not what we like to hear! We expect each can of our Rust-Oleum Specialty Outdoor Fabric Spray to cover 5.5 ft², or approximately both sides of a 20x20" cushion with a few coats to ensure full coverage. A few coats are necessary for an even finish, and this works best when applied in a perpendicular direction to the previous coat. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

Not Worth it
I used the dark blue to cover my cushions and it came out horrible! It's all spotty and looks blotchy. I am very disappointed. I tried to apply several coats and nothing helped.
