      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out, Ken! Rust-Oleum Automotive Clear Enamel Spray can be applied to most previously coated surfaces. Make sure the paint can be topcoated with an oil-based paint. A test application is also recommended when mixing brands to ensure favorable results. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

        Answer This Question

A:  Great question! Rust-Oleum Automotive Enamel Spray Paint can be used on surfaces that don't reach temperatures above 200 °F. If the surface reaches temperatures above that, the coating will start to blister and peel. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

We want to try to help, Kris! Rust-Oleum Automotive Enamel Spray Paint should be recoated within 1 hour of the previous coat or after 48 hours has passed. If you recoat before the first application of paint has skinned over and begun to dry to the touch, the two coats will dry correctly. However, if recoated at the wrong time, it may wrinkle blister or crack, which sounds like what you are experiencing. Simply put, to apply a second coat, the first coat must be very dry or very wet - never in between. To fix this, try sanding the surface, wait 24 hours and apply again.

          Works Great!
I used this in an unconventional way. I spray painted some shower faucet handles in Rust-Oleum’s antique brass to match my other delta champagne bronze fixtures. I coated the handles with this automotive gloss since its supposed to protect the finish against water. So far it’s worked like a charm. Very smooth and glossy finish and it matches my other fixtures almost perfectly. Unfortunately universal faucet replacements don’t come in the more modern colors, so this was a good alternative until I can afford to update the plumbing behind the wall and install the faucet I really want. If you follow the directions provided by the manufacturer, you shouldn’t have any bubbling or leathering. Spray it within two hours of applying your color coat or you’ll have to wait another two days

            fals advertising
This website introducing “scratch resistant clear coating” but unfortunetly not true because I’m using currently and even after two days drying even scratching with nail. Very disappointing

Let's talk about this! In ideal conditions, Rust-Oleum Automotive Enamel Spray Paint fully cures after 7 days. We recommend avoiding scratching or abrading the surface before this point.

Works great as a final coat and UV protection on my fiberglass camper top painted with rust oleum metallic paint and self etching primer. Turned out great and was able to color sand and polish and a couple weeks curing

Something is amiss here! In ideal conditions, most of our spray paints fully cure after 7-10 days. If applying Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clear Enamel Spray over a newer surface, we recommend applying within one hour of the previous coat or after 48 hours. If needing further assistance, please give us a call at 800-481-4785 to talk with us!

                I got huge problem
I painted the base color, it was nice and smooth. Waited till it dried then sprayed this clear coat. I saw white haze stripes every where. Waited till next day then wiped the haze but did not work. Touched the surface and it rough like low P number sand paper. I used fine sand paper to slightly sand it and surface get smooth but still have dull color not clear at all. I used wax and buffing machine to polish, the haze gone but color is not clear and is not glossy at all. I used 2 cans on one Tacoma hood. Price was OK but I lost 2 day of works for preparing and painting. Now I have to sand it out and paint again.
