I have tried a half dozen of these rust reformers and this is the best because it is oil baste. Most of the others are water baste, You should stay away from these, they don't work very well. I hope this helps. Good luck with your projects.

Seems to work ok so far. The rust turned black and appears to have regained integrity. But time will tell if the protection lasts. One note, for really scaly rust, you need to slop it on thick. And the transformation process causes bubbles which you need to go back over with a brush.

This reviews is a long time coming. I must have done something wrong but I don't think I did. I followed the directions explicitly. Remove rust (loose scale, not to bare metal), shake product, apply, wait appropriate time period to dry, prime/paint as directed (with Rustoleum primer and spray paint). I have applied this product twice to my trailer hitch after it rusted through from the previous year. I applied two coats each time. The rust has returned.
Key Points:
I have read that once applied, the product/area will turn black - it never does - it turns kinda brown and shiny.
I don't live in an area where harsh road chemicals are used on the roads in winter.
We have tried this product on different rusted steel products and the lack of rust stopping has been the same.
I rally wanted this product to work but how can my results be so different from the other reviews?

Thank you for reaching out! Keep in mind that Rust-Oleum Automotive Rust Reformer chemically converts rust into a smooth, paintable surface, this is intended for heavily rusted surfaces and will not work properly on light rust. Instead, we recommend using Rust-Oleum Clean Metal Primer.
