If I plan on putting down two coats, should the chips only be applied during the second coat or applied twice?

Great question. The Decorative Chips from the Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Professional Floor Coating Kit should be applied once you have finished painting the base coat and the paint is still wet. We recommend limiting the application to 4x4 foot sections at a time to make it easier to distribute the colored chips onto the freshly coated surface. Scatter the Decorative Chips up and away from you so they land flat on the wet paint film. Then continue on to the next section. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Can this product be used in a 220 sqft laundry room w/o windows containing an electric start hot water tank & furnace?

I would never in a million years use this product in the interior of any residence. It has very high, noxious VOC fumes and would be downright dangerous. Use the Rust-Oleum basement product instead.

Each box includes 2 bags (2 pounds) of blue/gray/white chips. If you want a granite look, I suggest you use 4-5 pounds of Glacier Gray chips. I also use a little Hobby Lobby "Crystal" glitter either in the Professional coat, or the Rock Solid gloss coat. It adds a little sparkle and it also improves traction.
