Will this seal old landscaping timber’s(my walls), not sanded, for the sole purpose of being able to clean them?

Asked by Dd February 19, 2021

Answer

Happy to help. The Rust-Oleum Parks Pro Finisher Water-based Sanding Sealer is designed for use under the Pro Finisher Waterbased Polyurethane where a clear, colorless finishing system is desired. And so it wouldn't be able to work for your intended purpose. Instead, we recommend using Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-based Polyurethane, but with this product, you will need to lightly sand first to get a smooth finish. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Varathane-1-Gal-Clear-Gloss-Water-Based-Interior-Polyurethane-200031/100140741 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Can you apply overpaint

Asked by Dgrif September 30, 2020

Answer

Thank you for reaching out! Our Pro Finisher Water-Based Sanding Sealer is designed to seal wood surfaces prior to applying a polyurethane top coat, preventing grain raise from occurring when the polyurethane is applied. For sealing and priming porous wood prior to applying a spray paint, we recommend priming the board first. With MDF board, an oil-based primer will be the best choice to prevent swelling or deterioration of the board prior to painting: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Cover-Stain-13-oz-White-Oil-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-Spray-3608/100398386 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

will this fill in spaces between boards to make floor water tight

Asked by Bob August 26, 2019
1
Answer

Thank you for your response, Bob. Please keep in mind that the Rust-Oleum Parks Pro Finisher Water-based Polyurethane for Floors is not a waterproofing coating. It will flow evenly to fill wood pores for a smooth, sealed surface with minimal grain raising, but will not be able to fill larger cracks or holes in the floor. These would need to be patched first. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Will this product work as a universal grain filler as well as a sanding sealer?

Asked by BruthaTool January 26, 2019

Answer

Thank you for reaching out! Our Pro Finisher Water-Based Sanding Sealer is designed to seal wood pores and minimize grain raise prior to applying a polyurethane. While this product will seal the wood pores, it is not designed to act as a grain filler. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

How do you mix/stir this stuff when it's in a bottle? Doesn't shaking create air bubbles?

Asked by honolulurider January 23, 2019
1
Answer

Thank you for reaching out! We recommend stirring our Pro Finisher Water-Based Sanding Sealer thoroughly prior to, and during use. The contents may be poured from the bottle into a paint bucket for easier mixing using a stir stick. We do not recommend shaking the product, as this will create bubbles. A drill mixer may also be used on a low setting to stir the contents while still in the bottle. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

Can it be used under lacquer

Asked by Dd September 17, 2017

Answer

Our Pro Finisher Water-Based Sanding Sealer has been specifically designed and tested for use with our Pro Finisher Water-Based Polyurethane. While a lacquer may be compatible with this sanding sealer, we recommend applying to a test area first. Our Zinsser Bulls Eye SealCoat Universal Sanding Sealer is compatible with all clear coatings: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-1-qt-SealCoat-Wood-Sealer-824H/202070456

Robert, our Pro-Finisher Water-Based Sanding Sealer may be used to fill wood pores and seal the surface prior to applying our Pro-Finisher Water-Based Polyurethane. Using a sanding sealer prior to applying a water-based polyurethane prevents grain raise, and ensures a smooth finish.

The water base makes it virtually odorless. It applies easily and dries quickly, 2 hours or so, and it is ready for another coat. The only complaint, because it is water base, it is thinner, and takes more coats to get a good finish. Don't sand too much between coats, or you will remove previous layers.
