Questions & Answers

Will this product add a tiny to the finish or is it crystal clear? I want to use it over I light color pickle stain?

Asked by: Sam
Happy to clear things up, Sam! Since this is oil-based, Rust-Oleum Parks Pro Finisher Oil-Based Polyurethane for Floors will add a warm, golden glow to the surface. If wanting a crystal clear finish, we recommend Rust-Oleum Parks Pro Finisher Water-Based Polyurethane for Floors instead. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Parks-Pro-Finisher-1-gal-Crystal-Clear-Satin-Water-Based-Polyurethane-for-Floors-258690/202521739 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

this states it dries to the touch in 8 hours but how long before it's completely dry, like to place furniture on and heavy traffic etc..?
Asked by: charthorpe33
Allow final coat to dry overnight before permitting light traffic. Finish will take 14 days to totally cure. Do not place area rugs on the floor and avoid heavy traffic for approximately one week.

I refinished my floor two weeks ago. and I noticed it gets scratch marks very easily. even after two good coats of pro finisher....please help

Asked by: OM
There are many possible causes. If your floor is a soft wood, like pine, it will scratch much more easily than if it is a hardwood, like oak. There is nothing you can do about that. In your case it sounds as if there might be two issues: an adhesion problem, and two coats are probably not enough. Three coats are recommended for floors and four for stairs. Did you let each coat dry overnight and sand between each coat? Did you completely vacuum and wipe down the floor before applying a new coat? Finally, the directions caution against putting down rugs or furniture for two weeks after the final coat so that it can really harden. All is not lost. Sand according to the directions on the can, vacuum, and then try wiping the surface down using a rag with lacquer thinner in a well ventilated space. You will be amazed by how much dust the lacquer thinner will pick up and it dries almost immediately. This will give you a nice clean surface to start with. Use a new natural bristle brush and NEVER EVER pour unused varnish back into the can!!! All you will be doing is contaminating the whole can with dirt from you work. Only pour out as much as you will use each time and then discard any remaining varnish from each coat. Try applying two more coats (waiting 24 hours before sanding again and re-coating) and then let the last coat sit, undisturbed, for two weeks, except for light foot traffic. I hope this helps!

How log does it take for the smell/odour to go away

Asked by: PJ
PJ, I used this product throughout my house and the odor was detectable for about a week. I used the "Pennsylvania compliant" LOW VOC version of the Parks product. It cost more than the 'regular' poly by Parks, but I did not have a choice as I had it shipped to my Pa. address (and HD would only ship the low VOC to my address). I was very happy with the end result and the odor was not an issue...i.e., it was NOT overpowering. Also, I opened a window in each of the rooms wherein I was applying the poly. SPECIAL NOTE: I needed more than 5 gal AND the finish from the 1 gallon cans WAS NOT the same as that from the 5 gal can. The 5 gallon can yields a beautiful satin look. That from the 1 gal can was a more, shiny, plastic look. Just so you know.

Pro Finisher 5 gal. Clear Semi-Gloss 350 VOC Oil-Based Interior Polyurethane for Floors is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 103.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very fast drying high quality polyurethane Extremely nice quality oil based Polyurethane shipped with unique paint can clips used to prevent unintentioned can opening and spillage. Preparation and application of product is especially important so you must insure surfaces to be painted must be absolutely clean and free of any debris as the final finish will definitely show careless shortcuts. This polyurethane must be used with adequate ventilation as the VOCs are quite high. I noticed this polyurethane dries rather quickly so a few ounces of added mineral spirits is suggested to slow drying times. Be advised two coats are recommended since a single coat appears quite lackluster. I allowed a day before the second application of the added coat and all things considered finish and sheen are quite noteworthy. I highly suggest you pour an amount into a separate can especially if you are going to use a brush for touchup areas otherwise you will introduce tiny air bubbles into the unused portion making the remaining polyurethane almost impossible to settle out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Six stars if I could Best polyurethane I’ve ever used. You couldn’t get this to streak or bubble if he tried. I was going to do several coats on the stair tread‘s so the first couple coats I wasn’t concerned about bubbles because I could sand them out so I just splashed it on with one of those foam rubber brush thingies and put plenty of bubbles into it as I was going, and low and behold as it dried all the bubbles disappeared! My other problem with polyurethane was ridges and streaking, Not with this product. All Of the brush ridges miraculously disappear within five minutes as it dr

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cross Ventilate I made my wife two shelf units out of 2" x 12" Pine stock, for her office. After I was finished sanding, I thoroughly cleaned all surfaces, preparing for this polyurethane paint. I used a paint stirrer to mix up all the solids, from the bottom of the can. Using a 3" brush, it didn't take long to coat the shelves, with a layer of this Polyurethane. The wood soaked up this oil based Polyurethane like a sponge, penetrating deep into the wood. It brushes on very smoothly. It is still Winter, at this writing, so I painted on this Polyurethane in the shop. I opened all the windows for cross ventilation, because the vapors it gives off are strong & offensive. After painting, I closed the windows & turned the heat up to 70 degrees. The humidity in the shop was at 60 percent. After two hours the painted surface was tacky. After four hours it was nearly dry to the touch. I let it finish drying overnight. Although, more coats are used on flooring, the one coat I put on the shelves, was sufficient for my purpose. The finish is hard & beautiful.
