Questions & Answers

Does the deck need special cleaning or preperation.

Asked by: Dane
Definitely! Very Important! Pressure wash every thing you want to coat. If you use any sorts of cleaners, make sure that you pressure wash again to completely rinse and neutralize pH. Also very Important to let it all dry out after all the cleaning. Note the condition of your wood after that, sometimes you might find more rot or damaged wood after you blast away the dirt and rotten paint.

Will the material fade in color over time?

How is the color going to hold up over time? Will it fade or transition to a different shade due to weathering? If yes, how long in direct sunlight is the color supposed to last?

NO FADING HAS OCCURED IN MY DECKS OVER 3 YEARS BUT THE COATING HAS FAILED TO REMAIN ON AS IT CLAIMS EVEN THOUGH I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL MANUFACTURE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREP AND APPLICATION I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT AS I ONCE DID IT MAKES THE DECK LOOK VERY NICE , GETS EXTREMELY HOT AND ONLY LASTS ABOUT A YEAR

How often is it expected that you will need to reapply this?

Is it like normal stain that will need to be reapplied every few years?
Asked by: chelz0r
With a very old deck,I didn't a little touch the following year. Our deck was old and the deck boards had a lot of splits, this stuff worked great

The color example here shows a speckled color which I like, is that accurate?

Rather than a solid textured color does it have large pixels of color?
Asked by: Lash
What you are looking at in this pic is the texture finish if you don't brush it out with a paint brush after you roll it on with a textured roller.

Customer Reviews

4-gal. Timberline Deck and Concrete 10X Resurfacer is rated 2.3 out of 5 by 88.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great. Make SURE you follow directions!!! I have a VERY old deck that I cleaned paint/old stain off of. It's a LARGE deck, so prep took lots of work. This mixture is exactly what I needed...otherwise I'm ripping all of the boards up and replacing. Make SURE you apply both coats as noted. Do NOT "over roll" or try to skimp on the material. Buy more if you need to. It will take as much as it says (my deck is going to use at least 4 4-gallon buckets w/ 2 coats!) As for the negative review (sticky), unless the person at HD mixed it incorrectly, there is NO WAY it's still sticky IF- you applied it when all boards were completely DRY, it wasn't mixed with other paint/stain, it was done in the right temp...and it didn't RAIN shortly after application. This stuff is exactly what I needed. And it dried nice a solid after 3-4 hours. DON'T walk on it for 2 days. DON'T put your furniture back for at least 5 days. Let it "cure" and you'll be happy you gave it the time needed. Hope it lasts a good long time!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very sticky even when it dries. I have an extremely large deck and 90% of it is in direct sunlight most of the day and it also has a pool on the lower side. I thought I would do a small area before I painted the whole thing. I purchased 2 gallons and followed the directions to the letter. I even prepared the wood as indicated. After a couple of days of dry time I noticed that it was still sticky. A wk later I found the same results so I decided to go with stain on the rest of my deck. I couldn’t match the color exactly and the area I used this product on stands out but I will have to live with it because it’s not worth replacing all the boards that have the product on and you can’t remove or paint over it. Well it has been over yr and when it gets hot outside it is still very tacky to the touch and it’s also much hotter than the rest of the deck and you can’t walk on it with bare feet. I recommend doing a sample area before making an investment in enough product to do your whole job. Good luck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Please read: Have a solution to the complaints about this product. Hi everyone, I have read several complaints about this product and I found an easy solution. I used to be a contractor, and decided to try a different technique that worked great. After using a deck cleaner and pressure washer, I rolled on a bonding primer called tuff grip item# 204652364, then one thick coat of the deck restore. It worked great with no loose or peeling areas. It has been through the monsoons and stood up to hail. I think the deck restore by itself does not contain a sufficient amount of a bonding agent and needs a little assistance. I had one area of the deck where there was a grease stain from a barbeque and I couldn't get it completely clean, but the bonding primer adhered to it great. So in my opinion, the deck restore is a good product and is definitely a cheaper alternative to composite decking, but the surface needs to be properly prepped and a bonding primer should be used first. The deck looks great and I really like the texture. I hope this helps anyone that has used or is planning to use this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WE would have never did it if they didnt tell us to We called restore and talked with them and they told us we could apply their product over another product and told them exactly what it was. We ask them if we could seal their product and they said just use any old water based sealer. This was not a good product to go over other products. This was not a good product to be sealed. It is cracking and bubbling everywhere. The sealer changed the color. The support staff completely misguided us.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time and money Worst product ever! I have been in the construction trade for over 35 yrs and this is the worst product I`ve seen! Had 3 decks to do, but lucky for me I did only the small one. Did the whole prep like was instructed to do. Within 2 weeks on the steps it was starting to come off and after 1 winter it is dissolving when ever rain lays on it for a few hours, you can rub it with your fingers and it dissolves in your hand. This stuff is a joke and the rest is going back for a refund.I would rather stain it every year than use this product. almost any product that is latex base may not be the best idea for outside elements, although some latex paints hold up well ! Anyone who gives this a stellar review is someone who just did it . Give it 6 months or a year then write a review.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Peels after 4-5 months! We were excited about this product. Took before and after pics that looked awesome. Did the pre-wash as instructed. Took 2 weekends [pre wash one weekend - application second weekend to make sure it was fully dry] About 4-5 months after we completed the project - the stuff started peeling up. This deck does not get much use either - so it's not like there was a lot of furniture scraping across the surface...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product, a little tricky to apply I just spent the day resurfacing a 1,000 Sq. foot dock. Back in the early 2000's, there was this paint by Ralph Lauren that had sand in it to provide texture. Everyone was using it and you had this special roller to apply it. It's like Rustoleum found a warehouse of that stuff and put it on steroids. I am happy with the results of this job, but it will require A LOT of product, just like it says. Also, a good portion of the product stayed in the 4 gal container, so I had to remove the tops to make sure I got all of it. The product cleaned up nicely, just be prepared to be picking it off your skin for hours, and be careful because the roller can splatter. Because I was doing a dock, I had a lot of posts along the edge of the boards. It was tricky to edge along those posts because the product is so thick. The dock will get a lot of use this Summer so I'm looking forward to putting it to the test.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money. not durable I did extensive research before redoing my deck. The reivews on this looked good. The only issue seemed to be its difficulty in applying. to prep our deck, we power washed, then scraped then sanded loose areas then power washed again. It wasn't too bad to apply. That was Sept 2013. After the winter , the deck is peeling, cracking and chipping. it looks horrible. My research shows MANY similar issues. This product is horrible. Clearly, they have a quality problem. That's likely why customer service hasn't responded to my inquiries. it is getting worse daily
