I applied 4x to my deck and front porch 3 summers ago. I now have a few high traffic areas that are pealing. The majority of my deck/porch looks just fine. I'll paint all of my deck/porch but wonder if I need as much paint as I got the last time thinking the coat in put on the good areas doesn't need to be as thick as the first time I painted over my pressure treated surfaces.
Asked by: Hack
Thanks for reaching out! Prior to recoating the surface, we recommend scraping along the edges of any peeled areas to ensure they are tightly bonded to the wood. It is also good practice to scuff-sand any exposed wood using 50-60 grit sandpaper. If recoating the entire deck, clean the surface using a non-bleach deck cleaner, followed by thorough rinsing. Once the deck is clean and dry, prime the surface with one coat of our Restore Deck Start Primer to ensure the best adhesion for the new application of Restore 4x Deck Coat. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Restore-1-gal-Deck-Start-Wood-Primer-301233/206869729 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

I painted my concrete deck with this product 6 years ago. For the most part it is holding well except for 2 narrow cracks where water now seeps into the basement. I have the cracks sealed with a polyurathane sealant. I want to repaint with this product as it held up well. Is there a recommended waterproofing sealant I can add as a topcoat?
Asked by: Al
We appreciate your interest, Al! To ensure proper adhesion, Rust-Oleum Restore 4X Deck Coat, is intended for use on bare or properly primed wood, or broom swept or porous concrete surfaces. This product is not intended for use on smooth, floated, or sealed concrete surfaces. At this time, we do not have a clear coating we recommend for use on this product. Please keep in mind that some sealers may need to also be applied to bare concrete to ensure proper penetration. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

I have salt water pool deck. Can your product be used on a wood pool deck?

Asked by: CG
Yes! Rust-Oleum Restore 4X Deck Coat may certainly be applied to a wood pool deck. Restore® 4X Deck Coat is a high build, water-based acrylic coating designed to resurface aged wood and concrete decks, patios, and walkways. The high build finish provide slip resistance and can bridge over or fill small cracks, checks, nail holes, or other minor surface defects.
