Questions & Answers

How many coats are needed? Why would a person choose to apply two coats of this product?

Asked by: BB28
can you use this on the patio as well?

Material started pulling off in a week

Out this recently after doing a garage remodel and writhing a week the material has started pulling off. I can’t even return or get my money back!! $225 gone on a bad product !!!
Asked by: Tosh
@Tosh - most likely you did not do the moisture test? (I am guessing here) - did you tape down a square of plastic sheeting (completely tape and seal all four sides) and leave overnight to see if you get any moisture beading up on underside of the plastic? Most people probable just put their hand on the concrete and say, well it feels dry to me and I have never had any problems with moisture, etc. so I will skip that step... @EpoxyPeel1andhalfyear - I am directing this at EpoxyPeel1andhalfyear, not the original poster: sounds like you may have put this on too early as you need to wait at least 30 days for new concrete before applying and you state that it was a new house and you applied before moving in...

The product instructions claim that when finished the product has a high shine. Just how slippery is it when it gets wet or has water on it from an auto? I have Rust-Oleum's epoxy paint on my floor now and it is EXTREMELY slippery when wet so much so that it is dangerous to walk on when wet!
Asked by: Psalm116
It will be very slippery if you don’t add the sand to the epoxy.

152 oz. Gray Polycuramine 2.5 Car Garage Floor Kit is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 653.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product but harden fast I used Epoxyshield on my previous house and the paint didn't last long at the area the car tires are parked. So this time I tried with Rocksolid paint and I can see the difference in paint quality. The end result like a rubber coating on the floor. The included foam roller is actually very good it distribute the paint evenly and only deteriorates after when the paint becomes like glue ie 45 min and I don't think any roller would survive that. Two cons:1. The paint dries superfast after 45min. I was painting the edges of my garage and after 45 min half of the paint became solid rubber. I had to go to HD and get another kit to finish my garage. So I recommend 2 people to do the painting and another spreading the color flakes.2. The color from different kits are not the same shades so half of my garage is is another shade.

My floor is 19' x 19' and the house was built summer 2018. The concrete has had no vehicles parked on it, just used for storage so far as we settled into the rest of the house. I meticulously prepped the garage floor. The process of painting the rocksolid on the floor was easy enough for a friend and I to do. As you can see from the pictures, we must have left it too thin in some areas; we felt we were applying it evenly throughout to the best of our ability. Unfortunately, the only way to eliminate the bad areas is to apply a second coat so I will be heading back to the store first thing in the morning. While still cheaper than hiring a professional, it is very frustrating to have no way to confirm if these poor results will occur until the paint is down with chips on it. If I can I'll update this review after a second coat (and another $214).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to apply, good floor coating The instructions are easy to understand and well written. There was more work in the prep, ie cleaning the floor, and our garage is only about 3 years old, so an older floor may take more time. There was two of us and it only took about 1.5 hours to get the garage floor done. We also purchased the antislip additive and I am glad we did, but the finish is not as smooth looking. We did have to purchase additional rollers as the one that came with the kit came apart, and I was lucky that there was an extra person onsite to run to the hardware store to pickup an extra roller as you only have 45 minutes to apply the finish before it hardens. There are a few ares where when it dried it looks like the coating is a little lighter than others, but looking at it they are hard to spot. It cleans very nicely and I am happy with that. The color is nice and matches the house nicely. Nice color options with this product. Overall, I would definitely purchase this product again.

I just purchased and applied the Rust-Oleum Rock Solid Garage floor paint kit. Kit included the concrete etch, which I applied very carefully and per directions. Also power washed the floor and allowed very ample time to dry. Overall, the application process went well. However, the elements I do not like about this have to do with the paint/epoxy. First, having the paint/epoxy mix in a pouch vs coming in a more standard gallon paint container was cumbersome and messy. pouring the mixture out of the pouch from a corner slit I cut didn't allow for easy and application. Second, and the most critical review I have about this product, is that the amount of paint/epoxy mixture simply isn't enough. We have a two car garage and an adjoining single car garage, and I thought I'd try it first on the single car. our single garage is approx 10'x15' and the product says it covers between 200 and 250 sq ft, but this simply is not the case. Rust-Oleum needs to increase the amount of mixture so that, A). there is enough to cover the garage area and, B). we don't have to purchase additional product to make for an even cover. Unless and until Rust-Oleum makes this change, I would not recommend this product. Wish I had read these reviews prior to making the purchase.

After reading the reviews on coverage, I bought 2 boxes of the 2.5 car garage for my brand new 3 car garage. I also bought extra chips/flakes. Again, the floor was new so it was not hard to clean. I power washed it. Etched it. Power washed it again. Etched it again. In the first stall I was concerned about having enough product to cover the garage so I applied a fair amount of pressure when rolling on the paint. After two of six sections were complete, I realized I had enough product to go the distance so I took some pressure off the roller and applied a thicker coat. DO NOT DO THAT. Very different drying colors. Pressure and thin is a darker mocha color. Less pressure and thicker drys as a very light tan. Edges that you cut, start stop points, touch up spots, etc...all vary in shade of color depending on how thick the coverage is. For $450 in supplies I would expect it not be so difficult to have a consistent color. When a product drys this fast causing you to start and stop to apply chips/flakes, it is nearly impossible not to have some overlap. ANY overlap will show. It is also VERY glossy. My doors face west. When the door is open its like looking at the sun through a mirror. I will be looking for something less glossy and more consistent in shade to cover this $450 mistake.

Went down very difficult and couldn’t get an even coating. It took me three 2.5 car kits to cover a two car garage. One 2.5 car kit on each side then I needed a third kit to go over the entire garage to even out the color (painted over specks). After $600ish dollars, the garage looks OK, although about thirty bubbles popped up overnight. Brand new garage floor (4 month old) and prepped according to instructions. Now that it’s down, seems to do as advertised. To peeling or hot tire pickup.

After buying 3 kits for my 3 car garage, I'm happy with the result but disappointed in the amount it took. I would give it 5 stars if it weren't for the amount I had to use just to cover a standard 3 car garage. 3 boxes of the 2.5 car kit. My first 2 kits were uneven in color and stretched too thin leaving areas looking like they weren't painted. I recommend getting extra rollers and gloves to wear when changing out the rollers. Rollers fell apart quickly. Patch any crack with concrete filler 24 hrs before painting. Any crack you have will be highlighted when it dries - do not skip this part. If I were to do it again, I would use the first two kits to just cover the floor - no paint chips. After letting it dry 24 hrs, I would come back with the third kit to add another layer and fill in any color issues, laying down the paint chips on this layer. The 3rd kit I bought covered the entire garage since it was really just an extra layer, which removed the color variations from using two different kits. 2 person job. My wife started on the edges while I started with the rollers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rocksolid Mocha I order the Professional Rocksolid which includes 4 packs of the product, but no rollers, or chips. My new garage is 576 sq. ft. I powerwashed, etched, and moisture sealed the floor. I had some dark spots in the concrete and they appeared to be the result of some moisture in the concrete. In researching concrete i learned that new concrete can hold water for months. We had a very wet winter and I kept the new concrete wet for about a week in October for added strength. (It was hot in October before the rains.). I might add that I live on the edge of the Mojave desert. I still had some dark spots so I did a second coat of Rust oluem moisture stop just on the spots. Today it was a nice day and I coated the floor and my wife helped with chips and other support stuff. Everything went well, i puchase enough product, Four bags, to cover up to 1 thousand sq ft. I had 1 and 1/3 bags left so that as pretty close the Rust oleum recommendations. My wife ended up using almost a full 4 bags of chips. Drying now time will tell if it all works. I would like to say follow the instructions VERY CARFULLY, EVERY DETAIL!! I see why someone might have problems if you don’t.
