Questions & Answers

How many coats are needed? Why would a person choose to apply two coats of this product?

Asked by: BB28
Highly recommend two coats. Great finish but one coat will not cover recommended coverage. I have a 330 sq ft floor and the Twp car garage kit left blotchy spots that had to be recovered.

What about hot tire? Will this pull off the floor after a car as sat on it over night like epoxy shield?

Asked by: Kane
Unfortunately, after a month we just had our first hot tire pickup. I am on here seeking a repair kit.... Love the look, spent a full day prepping the floor, followed directions to a T. The floor came out amazing, so sad that a 2" x 2" patch lifted. The rest of the floor looks amazing and seems to be in great shape. Hopefully it will hold up. No luck finding a repair kit though, guess I will have to get creative.

Is this product ready to apply or must it be mixed?

Asked by: jroohio
Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating needs to be activated and well mixed to ensure best results and proper drying of the product. In the box, you will find the material separated into 2 sections of a silver bag. Combine both sides together by bursting the middle seam and shaking/massaging the bag well to ensure materials are fully blended.

Does water cause fading/gloss issues

I read several reviews where the user stated that water left standing caused the coating to fade or become dull. Has anyone else experienced this? Most people will drive their wet cars into the garage and they'll sit until the water evaporates (not to mention snow, ice, road salt...etc. Standing water or a bag of lawn clippings shouldn't cause this. Looking for a good product for 3 garages and I will pay for a premium product but I want color consistency and no hot tire pick-up.
Asked by: Lakerat
My experience in Houston is the first time we parked a rain-wet car on it, we ended up with big, awful water spots. Nothing we have tried cleans them off ... seems the finish may be "etched" versus just stained.

I was a bit reluctant to try this based on the mediocre reviews but felt with perfect prep and attention to detail that the product would probably work fine. The concrete was one year old with absolutely no oil or dirt on the 850 sf floor in a brand new garage....perfectly clean. I followed directions precisely and even rinsed 3 times after etching to insure good adhesion. I've have previously used other industrial grade 2-Part epoxy coating before at my business and so had a good idea on how to apply. The entire floor has "fisheyes" where the product appears to react with the concrete leaving hundreds of small voids where their is no coverage. Also, the stated coverage is not at all realistic.....it took 3 complete kits to cover 850sf. So $600 later and two days of prep work, I need to determine the best way to remove this product from my floor and replace with the industrial product that I used before. A REAL disappointment!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Garage I have done several RockSolid garage floors and I will share my way, that has never failed. The first thing I always do it rent a grinder/sander to prep the floors. After this, I buy the HD brand microfiber towels and wipe up the entire floor. Then, I shop vac and leaf blow. Next, for my 500 sq ft garage, I buy 6 kits or 3 2.5 kits. The first 3 kits are for the base coat. This ensures that if there is pin holes, bad reactions, it is on the first coat and not the final coat. Next, wait 18-24 hours and prep for final coat. During this time, I remove the original tape and re tape with new tape (before product cures). For the final coat, I use another 3 kits. This time, I use all the chips provided (6 bags) because the first three kits were applied with no chips, just a base coat. Utilizing all three bags and chips to complete the garage, you have finished. Chip sprinkling is another important aspect. Try to avoid clumps and get the chips to distribute as evenly as possible. Hope this helps!! I love the product besides the amount needed but I have had people offer to pay me $1000 materials ($600-$800) for one of my garages. They look great!

The product is good, however I found the claimed cover of 2.5 garage is not correct. My garage is only 450 sq. ft., which is well-below the cover area of the product, but it turns out the the actual cover is by far what the product claimed. I ended up buy 2 more kits (3 total) to have the whole garage covered. The photos below were taken after the very first kit (see the 2 empty packages on the floor), and the amount is just enough to cover all the sides of the garage's wall. I feel not fair to pay triple the price to have my 2 cars garage well-covered. Really upset :-(

I have used and applied previous Rust-Oleum epoxy floor products in the past and I cannot recommend this one! I cleaned and prepared the floor as instructed and allowed the floor to dry. The first pouch was easy and applied fine. The second pouch was a disaster! The pouch was mixed as instructed and I started to apply. After a few minutes the 2nd pouch started getting hot as if a chemical reaction was happening. The pouch was inside the garage and out of the sun so that wasn't the problem. As I continued to apply the pouch it continued to get hotter, almost to hot to touch. I finished and let the garage floor dry for 2 days. Where the 1st pouch was applied it was dry and looked great. Where I used the second pouch I had a problem with it. It was still very wet and would come up with the touch of your finger. I then let it dry for 7 days and it never dried! I contacted Rust-Oleum customer service and described the problem. They wanted pictures of the floor and information from the product. Rust_Oleum sent me a new garage kit to reapply on the floor. Customer service was very helpful but what a nightmare for me! Before the new kit arrived I drove on the garage floor. The side where the 1st pouch was used it was fine! But where I used the second pouch absolutely terrible!!! Check out the pictures! When the new garage kit arrived I had to go through the cleaning process again! You wouldn't believe the mess it created! Pieces of the floor coating was stuck all over the interior walls of the garage, the driveway, everything! I'm still finding them today! I let it dry a couple of days before reapplying the new kit. The first pouch started heating up just like the 2nd one in the other kit. I was able to apply the 1st pouch to about 1/4 of the floor before it started to immediately set up when I tried to roll it on. I quit using the 1st pouch and opened up the next one. The 2nd pouch was fine and I was able to finish the rest of the garage floor with that pouch. I was very lucky it didn't take as much coating because the other side that was good didn't need as much to cover. I let the floor dry for a week to be safe, so far the floor is holding up. The 1/4 of the floor that the pouch started getting hot on me again doesn't look as nice and has a dull grainy look and texture. I think that their coatings are hit and miss. Some pouches are good and others are terrible. I don't know if they are inconsistent on the amounts of the two chemicals they place in each pouch or what! I would prefer they go back to the 2 cans you need mix yourself for consistency! I can't recommend this product because of the products inconstancy, if both sides of my garage would have turned out like the one good side I probably would be singing their praises! With all the extra work I put in and the mess, I give it a BIG NO!

Left my new garage floor (2 months old) with an uneven blotchy finish. I spent a long time prepping the floor per recommendations and will now have to repaint the floor. Plus I bought a two car garage kit for a 320 sq ft garage and had just enough to cover.

Looks much better than epoxy shield that I had previously. I did do mine a bit different when it comes to prep, not sure exactly how it will hold up but thought I would give it a shot. I used a primer prior to laying the RockSolid down. Some say that it did not coat evenly which I found to be not true. If you mix the bags properly and work within the time chart you should have zero issues. Looks like a glass finish. Fantastic!

I read the reviews and I was aware of some of the problems some people had. I spent multiple days doing the most important part of finishing cement: prep and cleaning it. I made sure it was teh right temperature, and I used the product within the required time frame, I bought extra rollers since the included ones fall apart, AND i bought 3.5 garages worth to cover my small 2 car garage. Despite all this, the overall finish was extremely disappointing. The biggest flaw is definitely the coverage. While I bought enough for almost twice as much the recommended product, I would go with 3 if I were forced to use the product again. I will say that it cured quickly and has held up thus far to wear and tear.

He said it was top of the line and everything I needed was in the box and I'd only need one coat. Well, he was half right, everything needed was included. However, there are two bags of paint (with parts A/B in each bag) which you need to mix thoroughly for 2 minutes per the instructions. I mixed it really well and started to apply in 4'x4' areas as recommended on the directions. After about a half hour, the paint started to cure while still inside the bag (instructions state in needs to be applied within an hour) and when applied came out a darker shade than when it first came out of the bag. This happened for each of the bags. Also, there is barely enough paint to cover a 2 car garage as I had to spread thin to get the job done. the two different shades of tan makes the flooring look real bad, I mean real BAD!!! I'm off to buy another coat to see if I can cover up this problem. I would not recommend to a friend.
