    Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Kelvin! Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating can be applied to interior tile floors, as long as it's grinded first with a grinder to degloss the surface. This will ensure the best adhesion. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:Applied this product in my garage. Now going to convert to apartment Can you recoat this product after 5 years ? Now it is grey but want to change to a tan. Without the specks. Or, can we apply with another rust oleum product that has higher gloss ?

      Answer This Question

A:  We are here to help, Chris! Yes, Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating can be recoated without needing to remove the previous application. To ensure full adhesion, you will either need to scuff sand the whole floor with 60/80 grit sandpaper on a pole sander, or prime with Rust-Oleum Concrete and Garage Recoat Primer. The surface must also be degreased and dry prior to priming or recoating. You will not use the etching powder in the new kit to prep the surface. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-1-gal-Concrete-and-Garage-Interior-Exterior-Recoat-Primer-2-Pack-338806/308298111 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

        Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Phil. New concrete must be allowed to cure a minimum of 28 days before Rust-Oleum RockSolid Polycuramine Garage Floor Coating can be applied. Bare concrete, even new concrete, requires cleaning and etching prior to coating. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

          Amazing Product
I don't usually write reviews but I've been so happy with this product that I felt compelled to write a review for this product. I've used this product on 5 separate projects over the past 5 years or so and I've been pleased with all of them. Frankly when I see a product with a 3 of 5 average rating as a consumer I'd have some concerns. I'm a retired Civil engineer so I have considerable experience with coatings and concrete and in my opinion, this product is hands down a 5. I've never experienced any of the pealing or other serious failure issues reported by other reviewers. 90% of the application work is in the prep. It's best to apply the coating after the concrete is cured, but when the concrete is as new as possible (but at least 30 days after placement). You can use degreaser but you can never really get grease or soaked in oil out of the concrete so it's best to coat it before it gets stained or dirty. This is also true with road salt. Once the salt soaks into the the concrete, it is possible, and maybe even likely that it will effect the coating bond and cause peeling as salt crystals and moisture from under the slab and coating push the coating off. In general, I think it's a bit unfair for reviewers to blame the coating for surface conditions that can't really be rectified. I've used the the previous epoxy coating products in gallon pails and by comparison, the pouches they use now are a significant application improvement. No messy paint buckets, sticks or trays. And with the pouches, no real concerns about unmixed zones of product making it onto the floor and not curing. Just burst the interior pouch barrier, need the pouch, clip the pouch corner, and pour the paint out in ribbons directly onto the floor for rolling. I will concede that they are pretty stingy with the volume of paint you get, and that the price stings a bit. But compared to paying a professional $5K or more to coat the floor, the Rocksolid kit cost is a steal, even if you have to buy an extra 1.5 car kit to finish the job. Unless your are really certain about the condition of your floor and how much paint you need, I recommend buying the 2.5 car kit for a two car garage along with the 1.5 car kit. You can return the 1.5 car kit if you don't use it, but once you start the project you want to be sure you have enough paint to finish the project. The concrete finish (surface texture) can significantly effect the amount of paint needed and coverage rates. The product is 2 part chemically cured. Once mixed you have to use the product in the allotted time. All in all it's a great product that I have had great results with and can recommend to others without reservation. '

I did all prep work and applied epoxy to the surface. The epoxy left patches on the floor and now the floor looks horrible. I would never recommend this product.

This is not what we expect to hear, Pankaj! An uneven appearance can be caused by improper mixing or moisture on the surface. We do want to hear more about your application with Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating and try to make things right with you. Please give us a call at 888-683-5667 to talk with us.

              Not enough. Mystery patches !
Pleased with the overall outcome. Only time will tell on longevity. Two gripes ; (1) both the primer (recoat primer) and Rocksolid floor coating kit (2.5 car kit) lacked on coverage. For my 485 sq. ft garage, I ended up using 1/2 extra from a 1-car kit (the other half solidified eventually and went to waste), (2) "mystery' patches (uncoated areas - primer showing through) were seen the next day - these areas were coated at first (I would have noticed during the application process, if not), and was part of the first burst mix pouch. During inspection the next day, these mystery patches were seen. Is there a "make-up" patch kit available?

                Peeled within 2 weeks
Followed all the recommended prep work and instructions. Even bought the special rust oleum concrete primer. Waited a week to put my car in the garage just to make sure and within a few days I started getting peeling underneath one of the tires. Also the first packet of paint came out in two different colors. Lots of work for it to start peeling immediately is really disappointing.

This is not what we expect to hear! If applying Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating to bare concrete, the primer is not needed. If using the primer, the floor does still need to be etched and the primer needs to be topcoated within the recommended time frame. Please give us a call at 800-481-4785 to talk with us, if further assistance is needed.

                  Glue peeled the epoxy
We’ve only had this on our garage floor for about 8 months now. Earlier this week,we bought new patio furniture which we unboxed in the garage. The boxes were adhered shut with glue. We were unaware that one of the box lids was facedown on the ground. The next morning my husband was loading the trash for the dump and one of the pieces was stuck to the floor. As he pulled it off, the epoxy came up with it. Now to figure out how to fix it! We cut the lifted edges in hopes it won’t get worse.

                    Poor chemistry
Realistically 2.5 Garage Kit only covers 1.5 garage flooring. That being said, there are lots of chunks in the mixing pouch, probably the coloring powder that won’t mix with the poly. I will post some pictures of what the chunks end up looking like once they are on your garage floor. I had to scrape these off because they don’t harden like the rest of the mix. I will need to order another 1 car kit to finish my floors. Very disappointed!

Water and Sunlight Easly Damages the coating
I bought the RockSolid garage floor coating. I painstakingly prepared the floor,, high pressured washed it, sanded it and etched it with the acid. Unfortunately the sun shines in the garage door opening about 2'-0" into the garage by the width of the door (18' or so). And in less than 10 months after applying this coating, the area where the sun shines is now deformed by the sun. Its dulled or removed the gloss coat. Or the gloss has disappeared leaving dull areas . Our cars A/C drips condensate water on the floor or from driving through the rain. And where this water runs out the door, the water has lifted the gloss top coat off. See pictures. Where the water lays on the floor and the sun is hitting the floor, the coating has deteriorated. See Pictures. I called Rust-Oleum where they said that Sun and Water will indeed remove the coating! What in the heck is this?? Its supposed to be Rock Solid right? Where is it printed on the product box that this happens? And who's garage doesn't have a door OR window where the sun might shine into? Or what car would not drip water on the floor after pulling the car in?? This information is deliberately left off. Why is this Rust-Oleum? And for me to claim warranty, I have to submit my receipt for proof of purchase?? Almost a year ago I applied this coating... and do not know where my receipt is. This is absolute bovine chattel! $500 wasted. All that prep time wasted. Do not buy this product if your garage gets any sunlight or if your cars put any amount of water on the floor..

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The application instructions for the Rust-Oleum RockSolid Clear Topcoat Floor Coating do state that this product is not intended for areas exposed to direct sunlight. The floor would hold out for short periods of time, such as moving cars in/out, but any prolonged exposure must be avoided to prevent yellowing as this coating is not UV stable. This product has excellent resistance to salt, oil, gas, and other harsh chemicals. If it is peeling or failing in some way, we will need more information to determine the cause. Please call us at 888-683-5667 so we can help to try to make things right. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5 Rustoleum
                        Different Colors
I am extremely unhappy with this product. Many reviews indicate that you will need more paint than indicated on the box. I found this to be true. I did all the prep work, pressure washed my garage, etched the concrete, completely dried I had only bought two boxes to cover my entire garage and once I started I realized I would need more, however I had already started painting. I applied two boxes on one night and there is a major color difference between box 1 and 2. I was alarmed but figured it would all look the same when dried. I went back and bought 2 more boxes and applied them later on in the day. It once again dried in different shades of gray. My garage floor now looks horrible I wish I never spent the money on this project. I jokingly said that I know have 50 shades of grey in my garage and it is not far from the truth.

                          Impressed and Disappointed
Bought 2 boxes of the 2.5 car garage kit and the degrease. Did the degrease exactly as the instructions showed, did the etch exactly as the instructions show, then my wife and I put the RockSolid down. This was in October and the temperatures were quite mild (60s and 70s). I noticed a few days ago that some of the RockSolid is peeling up (see the photos). I would like to know what I can do to stop more of it from peeling up and what I can do to cover the section that has peeled up.

We hate to hear of your disappointment, Matthew. We can certainly try to help you. If you're seeing peeling, that's generally due to laitance. This is basically when the concrete sheds from itself. Etching will usually take care of it, but in rare cases it may need more preparation. With that, if you're noticing peeling, we recommend that you take a wire brush to the area that's peeled and sand the surrounding surface with a 60 grit sandpaper. After doing that, you'll want to make sure the surface is clean and dry before recoating the peeled up section. We can help you further if you'd like to call us. Key Points, Stop Reading reviews and just do it.
Prepping good is very important (laborsome) as you will read on review. You just have to dive into it and paint at some point. Product was easy to work with, plenty of time left to paint at the end. One bag only paints about 75-100 sq foot. Buy more bags just to have on hand! Rust-Oleum liquid etching solution is better. Buy a EPOXY ROLLER 1/4 inch. Don’t use foam roller. Best advice one reviewer said, STOP reading reviews and just start the work. Yes, I am doing two section at separate times.
