Questions & Answers

Is this paint waterproof? (Ex. For converting old cabinet into bath vanity)?

Asked by: JL
I have used this paint on bathroom projects (shelves and tables) and have had no issues.

i want to paint my kitchen cabinets (natural wood) to white lacquer

How many cans do i need? What do i need to paint it?
Asked by: Genaro
If cabinets are unfinished - you especially will need to prime/seal with a product like Zinsser Shellac-Based White Interior/Spot Exterior Primer and Sealer Spray. If they have clear finish, you will need to sand wit 180/220 sandpaper. I would then still prime/seal with the Zinnsser to ensure a smooth finish. Would not recommend spraying in the sun or on hot days as the lacquer will dry too quickly.

must I remove paint already on the wood

the coat is fully intact and recent. Do I need to strip, or can this be applied right on top?
Asked by: daniel
Thank you for reaching out, Daniel! For the best adhesion with Rust-Oleum Specialty Lacquer Spray, we recommend sanding and cleaning the surface first with soap and water.

I have white furniture. I sanded it lightly sprayed it with white rust-oleum primer let that dry, then used the gloss white lacquer spray it came out great. I am a perfectionist so I painted it a couple of times just to make sure. but its beautiful. Oh and I watched you tube because they said to spray paint with lacquer you should do an even motion. Great paint and great coverage.

As a woodworker, I use this extensively when I need a white finish - dries fast and is durable. Keep in mind PREPARATION of the material before spraying is very important. If using on unfinished pine you will need to seal with something like B-I-N Shellac-Based White Interior/Spot Exterior Primer and Sealer Spray. Lightly sanding with 180 or 220 between coats will ensure a very smooth white lacquer finish.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible coverage Impossible to get even coverage. Sprayed a thin line no matter what angle or how far from the piece I sprayed. I went through three cans and didn't even get the outside of an armoire I refinished covered. Complete waste of money.
