What about spraying a wicker patio chair?

Asked by LuckyShe May 28, 2020
1
Answer

Great question! Rust-Oleum Specialty Lacquer Spray Paint is designed for application to wood and metal, we do not recommend it be applied to wicker. For wicker furniture a great choice would be Rust-Oleum Universal Advanced Formula Spray Paint. Universal is formulated for application to a variety of surfaces, including wicker. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Universal-11-oz-All-Surface-Gloss-White-Spray-Paint-and-Primer-in-One-6-Pack-342485/307246322 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

Thanks for reaching us, Becca! It's a good idea to consider priming with a product such as our Rust-Oleum Universal Bonding Primer. I know that sounds crazy, but I want repaint a piano, changing black color to white. Do you have any advice to this project?

Asked by JayHandyman May 15, 2018
1
Answer

Good question, Jay! To apply Rust-Oleum Specialty Lacquer Spray, the best thing to do would be to sand and de-gloss the current paint and then apply the lacquer right to the surface of the piano without a primer to avoid any potential wrinkling. You can certainly sand in between coats just as you described - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

As a woodworker, I use this extensively when I need a white finish - dries fast and is durable. Keep in mind PREPARATION of the material before spraying is very important. If using on unfinished pine you will need to seal with something like B-I-N Shellac-Based White Interior/Spot Exterior Primer and Sealer Spray. Lightly sanding with 180 or 220 between coats will ensure a very smooth white lacquer finish.

Paint peels no matter what I do
I am refinishing a project and have had to sand and strip to bare wood twice because the paint continues to peel and bubble. It's a well prepared surface and I have never had so many problems with paint before

We need to know more to get to the bottom of this. When applying Rust-Oleum Specialty Lacquer Spray Paint if the paint is peeling or bubbling, this typically indicates some type of contamination. Please give us a call at 800-481-4785 so we can hear more about your application and work to make things right.

Horrible experience
I bought 2 cans from Palm Springs store. The metallic reflective gold was fabulous: shiny and strong bond, but this high-lustre white was horrible. The button was hard to push. It came out a lot of droplets while it should have been misty. Paint got out as drops around the button and wet my finger. The bond was extrememely poor, so easy to get scratched. Not only it wasted my time, it damaged my project.

That is not what we like to hear, Tiffany! It sounds like our Specialty Lacquer Spray may have been sputtering from the nozzle, which should not occur when the nozzle is fully depressed. We need to know more about the application to get to the bottom of this. Please give us a call at 800-481-4785, we want to try to make things right! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

I have had an old art deco chest of drawers for about 30 years. Black Laquer chest with white drawers. The white drawers had developed a yellowish cast with age. I decided to try repainting them with this product. Fillled some chips in the paint, primed and carefully painted, sanding with 220 grit sandpaper between coats to get a really smooth finish. Perfect! This piece looks great!

I bought a 20 dollar brown tv stand from goodwill. I have white furniture. I sanded it lightly sprayed it with white rust-oleum primer let that dry, then used the gloss white lacquer spray it came out great. I am a perfectionist so I painted it a couple of times just to make sure. but its beautiful. Oh and I watched you tube because they said to spray paint with lacquer you should do an even motion. Great paint and great coverage.
