Questions & Answers

Can this product be used on a gas range top
ByJul 3, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Sandy, thank you for your interest! Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Epoxy Spray Paint cannot be applied to the top of a gas range stove, as the open flames will cause the paint to peel and blister off. At this time, we do not have paint that can be applied near an open flame. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 10

Would this work to paint a golf putter head? Not the face, just other parts of putter head

          Answer This Question

Danny, you ask a great question. Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Epoxy Spray Paint cannot be used on a golf putter. This product is only for inside usage. The paint has no UV protection, and when exposed to UV light or the weather, the coating will fade and peel. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

Can this be sprayed on a dishwasher in the house? Worried that the smell will be overpowering as spray paint is usually done outdoors or garage door open. Since the brushed paint is no longer sold, how do we safely spray inside? (Can’t remove DW door).
            ByMar 3, 2025
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

We are glad to assist! Only areas with adequate ventilation, like an open garage or outdoor space, are suitable for using Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Epoxy Spray Paint. For interior applications, we suggest using the brush on Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Epoxy Paint in the quart container, which is still sold at Home Depot. To prevent any odors from accumulating, adequate ventilation is still crucial during the application and curing phases. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-1-qt-Appliance-Epoxy-Gloss-White-Interior-Enamel-Paint-241168/100674043 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

We are happy to clear this up, Ralph. No, Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Epoxy Spray Paint is only suitable for indoor metal surfaces. It will not adhere properly to a fiberglass surface and may crack as the fiberglass surface flexes. Currently, we do not have an epoxy coating suitable for use on fiberglass. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

I was skeptical, but it was so easy to use, just make sure to tape off for overspray, it honestly made the fridge look brand new in just a few minutes. The last tenant had basically scrubbed the original finish off of it in spots. I will absolutely use this again whenever needed.

                MAKE YOUR APPLIANCES NEW AGAIN!!
Love this product, ran across it while looking thru the store. Always wanted a black fridge. 2 cans and 2 hours of work, looks like it just came off the factory floor. Then i did my deep freeze. Little more work there but looks spectacular. I will never let my appliances look dingy ever again!

                I didn’t have good results
It didn’t coat evenly. Painted a white almost new refrigerator and there are shiny spots and dull areas. I will roll it to correct hopefully.

Let's see what we can figure out. For best results, after vigorously shaking the can for at least one minute, apply two or more light coats of Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Epoxy Spray in steady back and forth motion, holding the can 12-16" from the surface. Be sure to slightly overlap each stroke, this will ensure excellent coverage and gloss.

Great Paint - buy extra tips
What a great paint. OK, my tip clogged too but I keep spares on hand. I shook for two minutes (I am used to West-System epoxy) tip clogged right away and started spitting. Changed tip and finished the whole can. I am using this over a SEM sandable primer on my son's firewall before we install heat & sound dampening. All epoxy paint will be 100% encapsulated and will never see the light of day. I use denatured alcohol buy the gallon and T-shirt (cotton) rags to prep.

I always like to give a product a try despite some of the negative reviews. Should've saved my time with this one. Extremely disappointed. Followed the directions for application and it turned out very splotchy, with an uneven shine.

Something is amiss here Bri! Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Epoxy Spray should provide a beautiful consistent ultra hard finish. For best results shake the can vigorously for at least one minute once the mixing ball begins to rattle, also shake frequently during use. Hold can upright 12-16" from surface and spray in a steady back and forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the same distance from the surface. Keep the can in motion while spraying. Apply several light coats a few minutes apart, several light coats provide the best results and finish.

SO disappointed in this product. We just purchased a new black refrigerator and wanted to spray my white dishwasher to match. Right from the get go it started sputtering and splattering drops everywhere on the dishwasher. I cleaned the tip and tried again, but to no avail, no matter what I did it would not stop splattering. This is even after I shook the can vigorously prior to spraying as the instructions recommended. I went back to home depot to purchase ANOTHER can, thinking mine was defective, but nope, same situation. I even waited the 7 full days (waited for a cloudy, cooler day in az) and sanded the splatters off before I tried again. Now my dishwasher looks like crap and with paint splotches all over it. I don't even know what to do to try and fix it anymore. 2 defective cans? I am a very experienced DIYer and have remodeled almost our entire house from tiling to plumbing, etc...never have I been so disappointed in a product.

                      Response from Rust-OleumSupportAug 2, 2018
Oh no, that doesn't sound right, Kelly! Certainly, it is important to thoroughly shake the can prior to use, and occasionally during use as well. The can should be shaken for no less than one minute after the mixing ball in the can begins to rattle. This ensures that the product is mixed well, and prevents larger particles from being sprayed through the nozzle. You also want to make sure the finger that presses down on the nozzle stays clean and free of any paint. It is important to have your index finger centered on the nozzle itself. If your finger is too forward it can cause some blocking of the spray mist as it comes out of the can, which can cause sputtering or larger drops to be sprayed on the surface. We want to hear more about your experience and try to make things right with you. Please feel free to call us at 800-481-4785 to talk about this more and make sure to have the cans handy! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5 Rustoleum
