We used this to paint a brass fireplace door from the 1990's and make it look more modern. The paint covered the brass without any priming or other prep work and it looks great! We like the matte black finish. We haven't had a fire yet to be able to judge heat resistance, it's a gas fireplace.

Krylon vs Rust-Oleum High Heat
The color of this paint is not quite black, it’s dark charcoal gray. The sheen is not satin, it is flat.

Sprays horribly. Not heat resistant
This paint sprays like powder. I sprayed it at around 70 degrees and 30% humidity. It dried for 3 hours. I gently heated it to cure it. I put an oven thermometer on the metal and slowly went up to 350. The paint was destroyed by the heat.

I dented my brand new blackstone griddle before i could use it one time. I bought this high heat grill paint and sprayed the dent where the paint came off only a few hours before using the griddle. Worked great. No peeling or bubbling. The picture was taken after 2 uses of the griddle and about 3 weeks have passed.

Good little spray can
We wanted to spray our golden fireplace to a black matted colour. This aerosol spray can sprayed everything every evenly and accurately. There was more than enough paint for our project. It also dries really quickly which allows us to make it a quick weekend project.

Gray, not black
Worked well on my gas fireplace. However, the paint drys much more to a gray, rather than black finish.

Let's see what we can figure out Keith. Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Spray Paint is designed for application to high heat surfaces such as the exterior of wood burning stoves and barbeque grills. This is a heat cured coating, it must be heated to 450°F for one hour to cure properly. This heat curing process will result in the correct black color. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

Works well on firepit.
Works well on my dbl walled firepit, where the paint was not used on metal directly heated by the fire.
