Questions & Answers

Will this patch areas where this or a similar product was used, but has started to chip?

Tub was refinished by seller and has begun to chip after a year. I'm not sure what he used. Can I sand and patch the chipped areas, or do I need to redo the entire tub? What is the difference between this kit and the $25 one? Thanks

Happy to clear things up, Lauren! Rust-Oleum Specialty Tub and Tile Touch-Up Kit is great for repairing chips, scratches, dents and defects on porcelain, ceramic, fiberglass, acrylic cast iron and steel surfaces that are subject to water exposure. It is suitable for use on surfaces previously coated with the Rust-Oleum Specialty Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit. The surface will need to be clean and dry at the time of application and we recommend lightly sanding glossy surfaces prior to application. Please keep in mind that this is a listing for 6 small touch-up kits that each cover about 1 square foot, while the Refinishing Kit is a single kit that should cover a standard bath tub with two coats. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-1-qt-White-Tub-and-Tile-Refinishing-Kit-7860519/202246270

The touch-up kit says it is acrylic-based but the full-size kit says it is oil-based. Why are they different? I have a small rusted area in a cast iron tub that has a porcelain surface. Of course, there is no porcelain on the rusted area. I am planning on using Loctite Extend Rust Neutralizer on the rust which can then be painted. However, Loctite requires use of an oil-based paint on top of the neutralized rust and expressly says to NOT use acrylic or zinc-based paint. The area is not large enough to warrant purchasing the full-size tub kit but the touch-up kit says it is acrylic. Any suggestions?

Happy to clear things up! Rust-Oleum Specialty Tub and Tile Touch-up Kit is an epoxy modified acrylic. Rust-Oleum Specialty Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit is also a two-part epoxy acrylic formula.

Why is this item only available in cases of 6?
Asked by: BigTim
Good question! The reason online products are sold by the case is for shipping purposes. In many instances, including this one of Rust-Oleum Specialty Tub and Tile Touch-up Kit, items must be shipped by case quantities. For this reason, when purchasing items online, they must be purchased in this way. For individual cans, we recommend visiting your local Home Depot store to see if they have the product in stock.
