Questions & Answers

Can this be used on a brass ceiling fixtures and door hinges. We just replaced our door knows and that was expensive.

Asked by: SOgrandma
Yes, I used it on hinges, door-latch face plates, screw heads, and other things. Its color matches the door knobs very well. A couple of coats of this paint seems to be pretty durable.

Can this be used on high gloss kitchen cabinet doors? Will it chip or scratch easily?

Asked by: Lw
I don't know of any paint that will adhere to high gloss without proper preparation. This paint would be best suited to paint your cabinet hardware rather than the cabinets themselves, in my opinion.

11 oz. All Surface Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint and Primer in One is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 61.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changed chrome tub fixtures to oiled bronze overnight! I had updated my master bathroom with new rubbed bronze faucets, light fittings, toilet roll holder, towel rail, and so forth, but the drain, faucets, and spout in the tub all remained chrome (silver) colored. I could only find one bronze faucet available, at a cost of $28 which was more than I wanted to spend. I thought this Rust-oleum paint might be worth a try - at worst I would end up buying the $28 faucet! This paint has given my tub new life! The color is remarkably accurate for "oil rubbed bronze" and I couldn't be happier. I painted the fittings with Zinsser Primer first, just to be sure the Rust-oleum would adhere, even though it is supposed to. The Rust-oleum took a bit longer to dry (I did two coats) than usual because it is very humid here in Dallas from recent rain, but today the paint is almost completely dry and the fittings now match the rest of the bathroom. I'm so pleased that I'm going to paint the brass frame of the sliding glass tub doors as well!

So far I have gone thru 5 cans of this paint, and of the 5, 4 have had faulty sprayers. They start out just fine, delivering a fine even mist, but the problem is that a lot of paint collets under the fancy nozzle cap, and so much paint leaks down the can and all over your hands (do wear gloves, even for small jobs). If you shake the can, which is something you should be doing periodically while spraying, blobs of paint fly every place, like on you, and your now formerly evenly coated project. Note you will need a separate can for each coat of paint. since so much accumulates around in the nozzle in places that are impossible to wipe down, by the time your project is ready for it's next coat your first can will be totally useless. I really wish a they would just stick with a standard spray nozzle on this paint. It costs more than a standard can of paint, and it has less in it. So much gets waisted running under the nozzle and down the can, and having to toss the can when it is time to do the next coat is such a waist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I have bronze window frames. I live in FL and over the years the sun was brutal on them. My photos don't show how horrible my window frames were. They were faded and they had paint spattered from original painting. I decided to have my house repainted after 16 years and want my frame painted too, but was quoted too much $ to paint the frames. At first I was intimated that I, someone who has rheumatoid arthritis and with no painting experience, could ever paint window frames. I did it! I have 14 windows and went through 8-10 cans and only experienced 1 can that became clogged, I just had to scrap the nozzle with my finger nail and it sprayed perfectly. Because of ra in my hands this trigger spray design worked wonderful for me. I receive some many compliments that even my 78 yr old father did his window frames. This is the BEST paint.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice paint, did the trick. I bought a can of this exact paint, in oil rubbed bronze, to refurbish my outdoor garage lights. I'm posting a before-and-after photo to show you my results. The paint covered well, the dry color is a pretty metallic paint, the color is a dark, espresso color (not as dark as black, but more like a cup of black coffee, a rich dark brown-see photo). The only downsides? Well, the pull trigger is clunky and designed poorly. And, the paint "sputtered" sometimes as I was painting. Other than that, I liked the paint, it dried nicely, I put the 2nd coat on about 40 mins after the first, and now my lights look brand new. See my photos, and see for yourself. Hmmm, trying to post my photos and it's not working.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Update and save! My guest bathroom had old, outdated, brass fixtures and I wanted to do a quick update without spending too much money. I actually replaced the fixtures that would be touched often with oil rubbed brass, but the light fixture was a different story. I took it off the wall and stripped it apart, then roughed up the surface with steel wool. After cleaning and masking the electrical components, I used this paint to utterly transform the fixture from brass to oil rubbed bronze. I then changed out the outdated glass to more updated ones that were in-line with the ones I saw on the oil rubbed fixtures in the store. Looks amazing and saves a ton of money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from liked it so well I completed a 2nd project I posted earlier about the two garage lights I repainted in Rustoleum Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint. That project turned out so well I decided to paint the porch light with the raining paint in the spray can. The only difference between my first project and this one was that this time I only waited about 20 minutes before putting the 2nd coat of paint on. It worked out fine. I did not take a photo of my "before" light, unlike the last project I posted, but here is the after photo. It's dark, and here it looks darker than it does in person. Overall, I'm happy with the quality of this paint. I just had a brand new front door installed, complete with a new storm door, peep hole, and door bell. Now, my porch light matches beautifully thanks to this paint.

I was SO EXCITED with how great this product looked on the ceiling fan I painted. I had no trouble with the can leaking while spraying. I had received a new ceiling fan as a Christmas gift for our living room and wanted to paint the brushed nickel parts of the fan to match our oil-rubbed bronze light fixtures we have throughout the house. I was nervous painting a brand new fan since I've never done it before and I was afraid of ruining it or that it wouldn't turn out how I was expecting. It looks PERFECT! I did several thin coats to be sure it wouldn't drip. So happy about this, and will definitely recommend to others!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Spray! Rust-Oleum makes some of the best ready to use paint products on the market. The Universal Metallic Paint & Primer In One in ‘oil rubbed bronze’ is no exception. I used it to spray paint the ugly metal threshold of my entrance. The product is easy to use and applies evenly because of the very fine mist. I applied three coats to get a saturated finish that lasts. So far it is tough as a rock and has gotten no scratches, scuffs or chips. I love Rust-Oleum products and highly recommend this spray.
