Hi John I used both high strength cement mixed with vermiculite for the majority of the dome, but used numerous thin layers of Refractory Cement on the inside where the temp is highest (850 F) I would not use fire brick again as there is lippage after 4 seasons. Would pour a slab of 2" thick cement topped with refractory then smooth with a wet grinder.

Worked in my mini foundry just fine. I should have let it set longer before I fired the foundry, but that's me, not the product. Have used a digital thermometer to measure outside temps and they're well within expectations.

The product met all of my expectations, and the directions were easy to follow. Using this cement as the base of my forge which has an inside dimension of 18" X 18" X 3" with a 1" layer of k-wool at the bottom. Just two tubs of the 25 lbs. of the castable refractory cement was enough to fill it too the top with a little extra to spare, and as far as looks and performance goes, it works like a champ.
