What kind of oil do I use for this chain saw? Not to lubricate the chain, but in the reservoir?
Asked by: Stacy
Hi, Stacy- as a cordless model, this saw only requires bar and chain oil, which goes in the reservoir. We hope this helps!

Which battery comes with this chainsaw - the High Capacity or the Slim Line?

Check the current product information. It looks like a high capacity battery is now included. The answers posted here are 4 years old, some of them.

Does this saw come with a tip gaurd?

Asked by: Josh
The tip guard is to prevent you from cutting with the tip and getting kick back. The larger saws have more weight meaning you are less likely to use the saw with one hand. This is never a good idea. The chain is anti-kick design but always have both hands on the saw and expect it to kick.

I am retired and decided to clear a vacant lot adjacent to my yard.. I cut down approximately 50+ trees with a bow saw. Now I needed to cut them up. I have quit buying tools and equipment that are gas powered and have pull ropes after 2 rotator cuff repairs. I wanted something light but safe. After shopping around I chose the Ryobi. I was skeptical about battery life and performance. Since it was reasonably priced I took a chance. I am amazed with the performance. I am getting approximately one hour battery life using continuously. The battery also recharges very fast. What surprise me most is the ease of cutting through the trees. Although very light, I always feel in total control and safe. This is the first chain saw I had ever used. I have started using it to cut down trees as well. Sure beats the heck out of a bow saw. I would highly recommend this product to anyone for light and medium cutting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok power - Weak battery A little dissapointed in the performance based off the reviews i read before buying. This saw is only good for limbs and big weeds IMO. I purchased and used this saw to cut up a couple small limbs and it worked well, 1/2” in diameter. Then the tree in the picture fell down, about 6” in diameter. The 4 cuts in the picture used up the whole battery. Back on the charger in less than 10 minutes!!!!! Guess i need more batteries. If your cutting up more than small limbs, get a gas saw, or a bunch more batteries. With the Ryobi, Ill be cutting this baby up all week...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great within its limits I wanted a saw for clean up & light pruning. I have a Stihl that I use for big jobs, but its a pain to gas up everytime I have light clean up to do, I don't store it gased up. I tried the 18 volt 10 incher, that was worse than useless. Decided to give this one a try & was pleasantly suprised by how it cut. Having said that the claim that it has the power of a gas saw is a streatch. Not even close to my stihl. I would not attempt to take down a tree larger than 10 inches, I think it would be dangerious. I just finished bucking 6 8ft. long branches ranging from 3 to 8 in. in dia. Great for doing that type of work. The only negitive I have is it comes with the compact battery. For the price I think the high output battery should be included. Fortunately I have one that came with the string trimmer. To sum up, if you are looking to put up a winters worth of wood this is not what you want. If you do clean up & maybe a few cords for the fire place this is a good option, alibet a bit pricy.

Just purchased, adding to other Ryobi 40-Volt tools I already own. Easy to set up, fill w/ oil, and insert/extract battery. Excellent power when cutting. I agree with the "gas like" power statement as far as when it's working. Cut this past weekend showed both strengths and weaknesses. Saw was technically too short for size of tree so I made a two part prep-cut. Saw cut through the tree with ease. Saw was quiet, easy to control. I appreciate it includes a tool to adjust chain tension built into handle. Thank you, Ryobi! Downside, these batteries do NOT like the heat. Temp hit over 100 F and the batteries wouldn't last through 1/2 their charge. I rotated through 3 batteries (2 2Ah already own, 1 1.5Ah that came with it) having to cool them inside just to finish what should have been 3-4 quick cuts, significantly increased cut time. I don't regret the purchase, but hope battery cooling will be taking into consideration with future designs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great cutting power for battery chain saw I purchased the similar model kit (with battery & charger). Very impressive cutting power but auto oiler died after 2 uses (30 minutes). Replaced with this model and bought heavier duty battery. Comes pre-assembled so just charge battery, add oil, and ready to go. Very easy to use and handle. The cutting power didn't seem as strong as the other, felt like chain was somewhat dull - possibly slightly defective chain. Still cut well - much better than expected - handled some fairly large trees. Battery power is great - 45-60 minutes (Ryobi said time increases with usage). Manual warns - battery goes from full to 0 without warning so a few times was in the middle of a large cut when battery died. Overall impressive Saw - fairly lightweight, easy to use, strong cutting power. Great for smaller jobs when I don't want to use my Husqvarna 16" and deal with getting fresh gas, mixing with oil, trying to start, loud noise, etc. Can recommend this Chain Saw.

First of all I own many cordless Ryobi products... 4 drills, 3 small hand saws, air pump, the 18 volt blower, the 8 inch tree trimmer and a couple others along with 8 batteries and I love them all. So after my gas powered chain saw died I decided to buy the 14 inch 40 volt chain saw from Ryobi. The first time I used it it worked great and was impressed with the cutting power. I didn't use it for a full charge because it was a small job and used it for maybe 20 minutes. Put it on the charger to use it again a week later.... WOW! This battery is garbage. I had a small tree that was dead and chewed up by termites so mostly hollow wood to cut. There is now way the battery lasted 10 minutes. Brought to the charger for 90 minutes and tried it again. Same result... The reviews are correct about this. The chain saw cuts very well but the battery is garbage. I am hoping that Ryobi does something about this or I will be slowly switching to Dewalt for my tool needs in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OP4015 & OP4026 Battery conundrum Great little chainsaw but if you're bargain shopping for additional high capacity batteries (OP4026) you probably should read this thoroughly first. If your one of the rare folks who actually read the owner's manual you'll have noticed that Ryobi says to "avoid using the OP4015 and OP4026 high capacity batteries" or suffer reduced power. A while back Ryobi DID have a problem with these batteries and thus the warning in the manual. They've since switched to new batteries but did not edit the manual. If you're looking for batteries look or ask for the nine digit number to the right of the model number on the battery. Stay away from 130186012 and 130208001. These are the old problematic (with chainsaw but supposedly work fine with other 40v tools) batteries..... and they are as I can attest to that personally! The number to look for is 130208003. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great power and speed for a battery powered saw I'm certainly not a chainsaw connoisseur but I'd say it's true to the claim of cutting as fast as a gas powered chainsaw. My only experience is with a Craftsman 18" chainsaw and a 12" electric plug-in chainsaw. This was way better than the 12" and if my memory serves me correctly cuts just as fast if not faster than the craftsman. I managed to cut two fairly large branches down, one about 15' long and maybe 6" in diameter and the other closer to 20' long and 8" in diameter. I bucked these down and cut about half a dozen smaller branches and the battery still showed a full charge. This wouldn't clear the amazon but I wouldn't think twice about trying out against some larger trees. The bar oil tank leaks slightly from the middle of the lid which I read was a problem with the older model too. Since it's from the lid i'm sure if the level was lower it wouldn't leak. I would have also liked to purchase the bare tool only as I already had 2 40V batteries, now I have 3. I couldn't expect more from a battery powered chainsaw and frankly expected less.....
