Questions & Answers

Is this a mulching mower? (can it be used without bag)

Asked by: DR
Yes, it IS a mulching mower. I've yet to use the bag that came with the mower. It mulches the grass quite well.

Does this have a push button start?

I am looking for this with an automatic start, in other words not a rope pull start.
Asked by: snowkat
Yes, you push the button, then pull back the handle and it purrs like a kitten.

Is the run time 40 minutes with both batteries?

I see that the run time listed is 40 minutes. Is that using one battery or both? As in does each battery last 40 minutes so if you use both batteries you have a total run time of 80 minutes, or is it 20 minutes each for a total time of 40 minutes with both batteries?
Asked by: Julie
Thank you for asking, Julie. Although these Ryobi 40 volt batteries are "gas-like", we do not have an exact measurement on how much of a run time this battery has. There are too many variables involved such as: what kind of tool you are using the battery with, what kind of material you are cutting, how thick the material is, if the material is wet or dry, etc. The charge time on the battery should take anywhere between 60-90 minutes. I hope this helps and we appreciate your interest in Ryobi! -Keri

16 in. 40-Volt Lithium-ion Cordless Walk Behind Battery Push Mower - Two 2.6 Ah Batteries and Charger Included is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 705.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from VERY CHEAPLY MADE AND NOT WORTH THE MONEY FOR CONVENIENCE. Bought this lawn mower from home depot... VERY CHEAPLY MADE AND NOT WORTH THE MONEY FOR CONVENIENCE. Bought this lawn mower from home depot only 1 year ago. After the first year of use the very cheaply built plastic handle bar brackets started to fold. With the plastic brackets not holding up, it put more stress on the handle bar joints at the bottom. The metal is very soft as well and completely bent at the bottom. Took it into the store to have it fixed under the "5 year warranty". They sent it out to Atlanta, took them about a month and a half to look at, called me and wanted $146 to fixed the brackets.

It is very light so she does not need to have self-propelled wheels. However, the first mower that I ordered. The batteries (I ordered two) would not take a charge after being used just 2 times. So I returned the whole mower and ordered a total replacement package. That was in September of 2016. It is now March of 2017 and one of the batteries that I received in the replacement package is totally dead and will not take a charge. So I am going to try and get a replacement for it. I'll let you all know if I have any warranty issues.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Love this little guy! Lightweight and easy to maneuver. BUT,... Love this little guy! Lightweight and easy to maneuver. BUT, battery life is awful! Took 7 charges to mow my .6 acre with this Ryobi. Which means I would be chewing through batteries and probably cheaper to hire somebody. Bag filled in 5 mins. (and that means less that half full before it gets clogged up). HOWEVER, this is not what I bought it for. This lawn mower was purchased for around the pool and other nooks and crannies. And, with (2) batteries included, I was getting the mower for free for the $200 price tag. With a full compliment of 40v tools I couldn't pass up this deal. Next up: waiting for the snow blower to go on sale...

It does a nice job and gives an even cut. It does take a little effort to push but I like that. It is nice and quiet too. My yard is 70 X 30, about 2,100 square feet. So far I have been able to cut the entire yard without changing the battery. The bag needs to be emptied a couple of times. The bag seems small but it is the appropriate size for a 16" mower. I love that this mower does not require much space to store. If I had to do it over I would definitely buy this again!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed I am a sixty plus year old woman and was very excited about purchasing a push mower without messy gasoline and oil hassles and having a deck that doesn't rust out. However, 4 months after giving it more than enough chances, it still can't seem to handle a nortern New York lawn. I'm only using it for very small portions of my yard, and have followed all directions to the T. Now, in late August, after charging both batteries as directed, first one battery doesnt work, and now neither one works. The hassle of sending it back is just not worth it. Save yourself the money, unless you're mowing a VERY sparse lawn

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I've never owned a battery power mower before. Much to my pleasure, the mower cut my grass efficiently and quickly and the battery lasted more than my whole yard. The ability to raise and lower the mower easily with one lever is very convenient. The mower is light. I can pick it up with one hand. The mower more than met my expectations.!

I have a 1/2 acre lot with a 2300 sq ft ranch house taking up quite a bit of the land. One battery does not do the whole job. Thankfully I bought the trimmer and blower with matching batteries or it would take all day to get done. At 16 in cutting width it takes more walking to complete the lawn compared to my old 21 in gas mower. If you are delayed cutting because of rain and the grass get high even three batteries doesn't make, I have to recharge while cutting and try to finish. The pluses are that it's quiet and light easy to push but my next mower will have more power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great choice in cordless mower I am a lawn tractor guy with a 3 acre lawn. I purchased this mower to mow our garden enclosure that couldn't be accessed with the tractor. I had been cutting it with a gas powered weed whip. I didn't want another "piston engine" or to drag a cord around. This rig with two batteries which will mow 6-7000 square feet. I picked up the weed whip w/o battery for $90(the one that accepts Ryobi gas machine attachments). It works as well as my $300 gas machine. The grass catcher works well and the clippings make great garden mulch. These machines are much quieter than than similar sized gas machines. Now all I need is an electric tractor.
