Questions & Answers

Good for left handers?

Asked by: kdav
This is a LEFT HANDED saw. People saying otherwise are wrong. If you grab the handle with your left hand, the blade is to your LEFT. The scrap piece you cut off falls off to the LEFT. You steady the keep portion of the cut with your RIGHT hand, which will be AWAY from the blade and the scrap piece. If you were to grab the handle of the saw with your RIGHT hand, then steady the piece with your LEFT hand, your LEFT hand would be adjacent to the blade. This is not correct. Also if you grab the handle with your left hand and steady the saw using the secondary support handle at the top with your right hand, your right arm does not cross the viewing area where the blade is cutting. 18-Volt ONE+ 6-1/2 in. Cordless Circular Saw (Tool Only) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 424.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst tool I have ever purchased. First, I own a 100 year old house, so have spent thousands on tools and thousands of hours using them I have a bunch of then other Ryobi ONE+ tools am d love them. I had, until last week, a little maybe 4.5" Makita saw that unused for small stuff when I didn't want to run extension cords but the battery finally died. I thought the idea of a six and a half inch saw was great, and it using the batteries I have made it even better. I ran out and picked one up so I could work on a project where there is no powe. Well, 3/4" plywood cuts like butter, for about 4", then the blade guard hooks onto the wood and you cannot cut any farther. I was trying to cut 1/2" off the edge and this happened every time. I figured it was only this one thing and I could live with that. Today I was trying tonangle cut a post top, and while the saw was strong enough, onelce again the blade guard doesn't retract when you are cutting. Pulled a cord and did it with a big saw. Returning it tomorrow.

I have one of the original Ryobi battery powered 5.5" circle saws, about 10 years old. It is not very efficient power wise and runs a battery down quickly. So, I had a project that would go much quicker cordless but would be a hassle if I had to keep charging the battery. After some research I decided the 6.5" Ryobi 18 volt would do the job. I used it to rip some half inch thick cedar planks down to three inch wide strips to fix to the top of a fence to replace the old weather worn ones. This saw performed the task without a hiccup, never slowing and cutting true even through some "green" planks that had not fully dried out. The 6.5" size allows a clear cutting advantage over the original 5.5" but still has a low enough mass that it is easily handled with one hand. I would caution inexperienced cutters "not to try that at home". I would definitely recommend this saw for small projects and certain construction jobs made simpler by battery power. SJS

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Purchased and used with the 1.5ah battery. Battery drained very quickly and saw stopped in the mi... Purchased and used with the 1.5ah battery. Battery drained very quickly and saw stopped in the middle of cutting 2x4s. Yes I said 2x4s. I was going to return and get different saw but liked having all the same tools that take the same batteries. So I purchased the larger 4 ah battery. Battery life was alot better. Night and day difference but saw would still jam up and stop cutting. So went back to home depot and purchased a Diablo blade for the saw and so far it is working well. It now cuts 2x4s and 2x6s with no problems. The battery I can see being ok to purchase but the saw blade that comes with it is junk. So the 69 dollar saw plus 79 dollars for battery and 15 dollars for blade equals and expensive saw. On the plus side it is very light and easy to handle. Just very disappointed in having to purchase a blade for it. I do also own the 5 1/2 ryobi one saw and that worked better on the 2x4s then the 6 1/2 did out of the box.

I liked the fact that I didn't have to drag out an extension cord for my Skil saw. Like all other tool purchases I check to make sure everything is attached properly and square. Unfortunately, the blade is not parallel to the shoe. In the front it is out by 1/16" of an inch. Which would cause binding and/or kickback while cutting. Also, the arbor assembly has a lot of play in it. I will be returning this and possibly getting the 7-1/4" Brushless version.

I used this cordless saw to build a sandbox which was far from an electrical outlet. The saw had the power to cut 2x4s with no problem. It ran for the hours I worked and I saw no change in power. I already have the Ryobi hammer drill and impact driver. I like that the batteries are interchangeable and that they charge quickly. Very happy with my purchase.

Just picked up this 6-1/2” 18v saw today @ Home Depot in exchange/return of a corded Genesis 4-1/2” compact saw (which was a waste of time and money). It’s a great little saw! Beats the Genesis saw by a long shot! I have multiple Ryobi tools and have had a solid user experience with all their tools corded and cordless versions including a 15-year old “blue color” reciprocating saw which still kicks. Never had a cordless circular saw and wonder why until now. Love that I won’t have hassle with a corded circular saw on jobs! I have several corded circular saws including a Skilsaw Worm drive (much too heavy to lug around on the job site) Love the light weight and power of this upgraded saw-cut through several 3/4” ply sheets of 4x8’s with no problem. I also bought the 4.o amp battery which I’d strongly recommend. This will be a saw I’ll be using frequently on job sites and @ my home shop. Only minor thing is that I wish the saw came with a carrying case, other than that, great job Ryobi. Again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second Chance - Updated Review of This Saw I had a previous review of this product and gave it a 1 star and not recommended rating. The HD website won't allow me to update my post so I am adding another review while signed out of my account. In my first purchase and review, I couldn't get the saw to cut a straight line, and returned it. Several weeks later a product manager from Ryobi contacted me to get some additional information on the troubles I had. They even sent another saw and asked if I would give it another try. Wow, what a totally different experience. I don't know what was different about the saw itself, but I put it through the paces with both cutting and ripping all various types and thicknesses of wood. This saw did not experience the bog down and stoppage as many others had experienced including me! It cut perfect every time using the stock blade. I must say, compared to my first experience, I would be totally satisfied with this saw in its current form!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm strictly a diyer. I have a hard time making straight cuts with circular saws. But this new ... I'm strictly a diyer. I have a hard time making straight cuts with circular saws. But this new one, which goes along with my old 5-1/2" Ryobi saw is really good. I put a 40 tooth Diablo blade on it first thing and made some practice cuts before my project. Much better than my old saw, which I am keeping as a backup. Now I need to get a multi port charger for all my Ryobi tools. I'm watching for the special package sales. Again, I have found this to be a very good cordless saw.
