Questions & Answers

Does this service any tool batteries or just this name brand

Asked by: Robert
Due to the shape and configuration of the plug in portion, this will only accept the Ryobi. If they made adapters, with the same voltage output, and Amps, they may be able to do a universal Charger. As yet, I have never seen any of this type. They may in the future bring them out, but their cost may be more than just possessing a different charger, for different brand. One good way to take care of this issue, if you have a work trailer/garage, or room you do work in, is set up the different Chargers on a rack/piece of wood, etc. so they are all in a row, or group, easily accessible and use which ever ones work the best. Many times these items can be purchased in a pawn shop, and they are not that expensive. So, you would have several different types of brand tools. Others may be choosy, and stick with one brand all the way.

Some of the Ryobi batteries say to only use a dual chemistry charger. Is that what this charger is?

Can I leave the batteries on the charger for storage as long as I leave the charging station unplugged?

Asked by: JD
No, you should not leave the batteries on the super charger for storage if the charging station is unplugged. I had 6 fully charged 4A batteries in my super charger and took it inside the house this winter, unit left unplugged in the house. In less than a week, all 6 batteries were completely depleted. There is a very high drain issue on the super charger if not plugged in. Take the batteries out of the super charger for storage and they will stay charged for months. Interestingly, I had a single battery charger unplugged with a battery in it for months and it was still reading 4 bars. Having said that, I don't think I will leave any batteries on any of my chargers if left unplugged.

Can I maintain the Charger with batteries in temperatures below freezing?

My charger is mounted in a detached uninsulated garage and this will be my first Michigan winter using the charger. Can I leave the charger in the garage through the winter with batteries installed for maintaining charge or should I move charger and batteries into the house?
Asked by: RonC
Hi Ron, I'm sorry to tell you that you can't do what you described. These Ryobi lithium batteries are great, but they don't tolerate below freezing temperatures well, or at all. My garage got into the low thirties (just above freezing) for a couple of weeks two years ago, and I lost three of the six batteries I had on this charger out there, all of them the lithium variety. (Three other Ni-Cads weren't affected at all). My own fault, I should have kept a closer watch. I keep them indoors during the winter since then and have had no problems.

18-Volt ONE+ 6-Port SuperCharger (Tool Only) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 229.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is great for charging multiple batteries especially for charging them at the end of the day... This is great for charging multiple batteries especially for charging them at the end of the day.You can throw all of them in the charger and have them ready for you the next day. I say that because this will charge the batteries one at a time, and when one battery is charged it will proceed to charge another battery. Good for overnight charging so you do not have to worry about getting up in the middle of the night, taking a battery off of the charger and charging another one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from P125 SuperCharger: It's Super! I've owned one of these P125 SuperChargers for over 2 years, since they were first released in 2009. I actually drove about an hour out of my way to get to a Home Depot store that had received a few before all other locations, and I purchased one for myself and one for a friend. I was immediately disappointed that the unit charges batteries one-at-a-time and not all-at-once like my P120 Dual Port charger did. Oh well. But the IntelliPort feature made up for this, and then some. Finally, a charger that is designed to have the batteries plugged in at all times without overcharging! So I can have up to 6 batteries ready-to-go at all times. This feature works very well. I mounted this charger in my garage so batteries are in a handy location. When winter came I learned that the charger does not like to do it's job on Lithium Ion batteries when the garage gets too cold, but it will still charge NiCD batteries. Interesting. Eventually I purchased a second P125 charger and now I keep several batteries at-the ready in my garage and also in the shop (yes, I have more than six batteries!). The blue light on the front of the unit is very bright. Neighbors think I keep a nite-lite in my garage. The charger always looks to charge battery packs in the same order. First it charges the battery in the bottom right position, then it moves counter-clockwise to the next battery and so on until they're all charged. This information comes in handy, say, when you return to your charger with several batteries and want to charge the P103 packs first (because they charge the fastest). Or if some batteries are warm due to heavy use, you can plug these in last and in the last few positions so they'll cool down the most before it's their turn to be charged. This charger works as advertised and is an invaluable addition to any Ryobi One+ enthusiast who owns more than a couple of batteries.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from IntelliPort Technology not too intelligent I like the charger in that it can charge up to 6 batteries, one at a time, and that batteries can be left on the charger. I was disappointed that one only finds out the functional details of how the thing truly works only after purchase and that these details were not disclosed as part of the description of the product on Home Depot's Web site. My main issue is that once all the batteries are fully charged, the charger stays in maintenance mode for only about 12 hours and then goes into the energy save mode for 5 days. In energy save mode, batteries are neither being charged or maintained. In 5 days, my older batteries will essentially be dead, and the newer batteries not at full charge when I need them. Luckily, this design defect is easy to defeat as I have plugged the charger into a simple time switch (it cost me $10) which shuts the power off to the charger at 3am. The power is restored at 5am and this forces the charger to go back through the charge mode and then into the maintenance mode by 7am when I need my batteries to be at full charge. I don't know why the charger was designed to only wake up from energy save mode every 5 days instead of every day to assure that all batteries are topped off at the beginning of the work day. Further, compared to all things one has in a house, a battery charger is not a significant energy consumer, so the need and usefulness of an energy save mode on this charger escapes me. For the above noted reasons, I only rated this charger a 3. If it would automatically wake up every day, I would have rated it a 5.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Only charges one battery at a time The charger works and would be suitable for an individual who is not in a heavy use application. The problem is it only charges one battery at a time then moves on to the next. So if you put 4 dead batteries in, it is much slower than putting the 4 batteries in 4 individual chargers. We pretty much quit using it and instead mounted multiple individual chargers on a 2x12 and mounted the board on the wall. With Home Depot putting the sets on sale before Christmas each year, we just buy inexpensive tool sets and get our extra batteries and chargers that way. I would not buy another charger like this, not because it does not work, but because it really is only a single charger with six slots to put batteries in.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dont buy-build your own I read the reviews for this product and I was disappointed to find that this charger does not charge all six batteries at once and does not keep them topped off once charged. My ryobi collection consists of over 15 tools and I have at least 12 batteries. I have 5 chargers that I have bought with combo kits and some separately so I decided to build my own multi charger. The total price of this homemade charger is more than the p125 but I can charge all of the batteries at the same time. All you need to do is mount the individual chargers to a board, cut off the plugs and wire them all to one plug. I even added a j-box to mine and wired in a receptacle. Other guys had mentioned plugging all of the chargers into a power strip or into wall sockets but for me this is a great fix and works well-no more long tangled wires etc Hope this helps so somebody out there. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but you need to do this.... A tip on the 6 port supercharger p125....once it goes into energy save mode after 12 hours, it will not turn back on until you push the blue button or in five days. So I have found if you grab a battery on the 4 day, the battery is not fully charged but rather about 75% charged until the 5th day in which the charger turns on and tops off all the batteries. Then the process starts again; charge, maintain for 12 hours, then energy save mode until 5 days. In that order. Ok here is the tip, use a wall outlet timer, set it to turn on at 7am or earlier if you use your batteries sooner and set it to turn off at 7pm or later if you you use your batteries after dark. So by doing this the charger will maintain the batteries every 12 hours everyday instead of every 5 days. So anytime you grab a battery from the 1st day or the 4th day your batteries will have 100% charge even the old Nicad batteries every time. Also if you unplug your charger for more than a day, please make sure you take your batteries "OUT" of the charger. They "WILL" discharge, if you forget and leave them in the "UNPLUGGED" charger for longer than 2 days, the batteries will discharge to the point of no return and ruin your batteries. "Don't say I didn't warn you!" So use the timer and your good to go. Make sure you take your batteries out if you unplugged the charger for more than a day and you will never have to worry about this again. With that said, I feel this Supercharger is a brilliant idea that just needs a little modification to work properly. Once this setup is in place, its wonderful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ryobi 18-Volt+6-port Supercharger. Is better than reviews i read prior to purchasing. Reviews about this product varied from people who complained that it only charged one battery at a time to those who said the quality was junk. Despite these reviews I purchased one of the 6 port superchargers. I have used the unit for several weeks and it is excellent. I used 3 separate chargers but I had 6 batteries and it was a hassle to keep them charged. With this unit I plug them all in and avoid the hassle. Although the unit only charges 1 battery at a time it automatically changes to the next battery as soon as the battery being charged is finished. It does this until all the batteries are charged. It took an amazingly short amount of time to charge all six. The light system will tell you what is charged, being charged, if a battery is bad, etc. I hung the unit vertically on my shop wall and the batteries stay snug and in place. I use the batteries all the time and never have to worry about stopping because of dead batteries. If you had to use all six the 1st. battery you used would be fully charged long before you got to the 6th. battery. If you do not you have some bad batteries. Overall this was a great purchase. I should have ignored all the negative reviews and bought the unit charger sooner. It sure tidied up my charging station area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very convenient - great system I have been very impressed with the selection of Ryobi cordless tools, so have collected several over the years. And am now replacing my older non-Ryobi units with Ryobi units as they get older. The fact all the units share the same battery technology is a huge time saver. So this unit is great to keep several batteries charged and ready at all times - no matter what selection of tools I may need. I mounted it in my garage on the wall - when I am done, I simply pug the battery in an empty slot and they are ready for me next time. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
