I just purchased the Ryobi glue gun a couple of weeks ago and would like to know whether it's normal to have to feed a second glue stick into the feeder when the first one isn't even close to being used up? I was using the glue gun to glue a couple of small things and I turned it off. About 15 or 20 minutes later I turned it back on and waited for it to get hot and I kept squeezing the trigger and no glue came out. I thought it might perhaps be clogged with the old glue but when I fed another glue stick in, that seem to do the trick (although the original glue stick was only used for two or three little things). Is it normal to have to feed a second glue stick into the gun despite the first glue stick not even being close to half used?

I just got one of these and love it so far. I didn't have anything like this happen, but I was using the longer Gorilla Glue glue sticks which are 8 inches long. I needed to secure some Christmas lights around a window and a standard glue gun with smaller and "craft" level glue just wasn't working (the lights would come loose in wet weather). I decided to go for the more robust Ryobi coupled with Gorilla glue sticks, the combination of which worked like a charm. But the longer sticks fed just fine (but again, these were 8-inch glue sticks) and one stick was more than enough to fix the badly held lights.

No. The larger batteries only last longer. They only supply 18 volts regardless of the size.

yes you can just heat up the glue gun and the glue in the nozzle melts and around the threads of the nozzle so you can remove it

Can't seem to find this at any store and no way to purchase on Ryobi Tools site. Is it discontinued?
Asked by: ArmyChief
if the store doesn't have it you should be able to order online. I found the glue in a different part of the store, it was not in the tool section and depending on your store some employees may not know where it's at. I found it using their app in the glue section of the paint department.

I bought this a while back for a specific project and have just actually used it for the first time today. I plugged in a P102 battery and turned it on without any glue in it and it killed the battery in under 2 hours. I don't plan on needing to use it that long so not getting the full duty cycle out of it isn't an issue for me. But when I got to using it I found that I could turn the power off and it remained hot enough to extrude glue for quite some time so using it in that way would extend my battery life. Buying the $100 battery would probably help as well but we already have several P102s around the hackerspace so I don't plan on buying any batteries any time soon. I find that with the size of my hand it is most comfortable to squeeze the trigger with my middle two fingers but that leaves my index finger floating around on the right side of the upper body and it invariably ends up laying along the warning label which is very hot.

The glue is boiling when it comes out if it sits more than a few minutes. I think the second version will be better if they take feedback and improve on the design. Probably would be better to just turn it off and on and not have it sitting ready. Need a timer or auto shut off feature - eats a battery up sitting idle and (as stated) the glue comes out boiling and bubbling. Seems it could go into a low power mode (yellow light) until picked up and then do a thirty second heat cycle to full temp with a beeping timer or light indicator or something similar. It is comfortable and looks great with my other Ryobi tools - very stable with both the big and little batteries. Also - the tip is a bit too wide and short for any delicate work - pretty much gobs of boiling glue on big surfaces are where this will shine - but doesn't help me much when building foam airplanes.

Operation of this glue gun is just like that of any other glue gun with the exception that you have an onboard power supply. The only gripe about this gun is that it really needs to have a selector switch to choose between "High" heat and "Low" heat. The first thing I tried to use it on was a fairly thin piece of plastic. The heat of the glue was sufficient to melt the plastic. I had to revert to my old corded glue gun to complete the job. However I will admit that that the higher operating temperature of this glue gun should produce better adhesion since the glue would "flow" better and get into little cracks and crevices.

It's one of those tools that you say to yourself "why did I not get this sooner?" So easy to use as you just place a 1/2" glue stick in, flip the switch and give it a couple minutes to heat up. The glue gets very hot, and is super easy to apply in a controlled manner. Whats great about this is that it will stand up on its own and really eliminates you needing to worry about fire hazards do to resting it on the work surface. When finished with you work, simply flip the switch to off (has an led indicator) and your good to go. can't live without this!

I bought one of these at Christmas time and the wife loved mine so much she confiscated it...So I had to buy another for myself. Great little glue gun. Heats fast and you don't have to worry about cords getting in the way. The wife uses it for her arts and crafts..A lot of styrofoam, plastics and polished rocks, I use mine for wood working and adding strength to wood joints. You can by various types of glue sticks that will work with this gun. Awesome time saver and well worth the price..

This is a lot easier to use than a corded one although it's more expensive too. It heats quickly and cools quickly. My only negative comment is with the instructions. It says to use .45 inch glue sticks but most glue sticks come in fractional measurements. From what I'm reading though, most 7/16 and 1/2 inch sticks will work. Like most glue guns, make sure you have at least one extra glue stick as when the stick in the gun gets short you need another one to keep pushing it in.

I now have the ability to use a glue gun anywhere it’s needed without having to be around an electrical outlet or finding an extension cord. This item ‘heats up quickly and dispenses evenly and smoothly. I would recommend using the ‘smaller’ 18 volt battery if you have a ‘bigger’ project to make the glue gun a little lighter. Highly recommended as I do for all the RYOBI tools I own.
