Does this have a fence

I want to use this to also cut straight lines. Does this come with a fence like a table saw?
Asked by: Michael
Hello Michael this is Cerah with Ryobi. This band saw does is not supplied with a fence. When using the band saw for straight line cutting, the user can install a fence using an appropriately sized piece of wood clamped to the table with “C” clamps. It is not capable of making inside or non-through cuts. Thanks for your interest in the Ryobi brand product.

Hi Diane, this is Cerah with Ryobi. A Scroll saw would be perfect for the intricate designs used to make letters and numbers. Thanks for your interest in the Ryobi Brand product.

Can't decide on this or the scroll saw. Wouldn't this saw also do scroll work? Not a big price difference.
Asked by: Joseph
If you are making children's puzzles or similar fine cutting where you will be rotating the wood a full 360 degrees whilst cutting out a curved figurine then you will need a scroll saw. If you are doing a sharp curve but not rotating the wood more than 90 degrees you can do this with a band saw. On occasions you will have to assist the Band Saw curved cut by doing what they call relief cuts before attempting the complete required curve cut. Visit utube there are some great videos showing how to do these cuts. Seeing these videos will also make you more confident as to your required machine purchase.

2.5 Amp 9 in. Band Saw in Green is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 148.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from 100% Dissatisfaction Long story short; had to return to Home Depot twice. First for on off switch issue and the second for motor problem. Bad luck or poor quality control I don't know but it has ruined ryobi purchases in the future for me.

I've owned this bandsaw for approximately one year, and I've used it for both hobby work, and building some furniture to be used in the home. When I first un-packaged and set this saw up, I took my time to set it up because I found some problems with it which I mentioned in a review shortly after buying it. The greatest drawback I found about this item was that I couldn't find a ripping fence to fit it, so I set out to design one of my own that I've found works well for my usage purposes, and for those of you who may be interested in this saw, it's a good decent saw for general projects. I wanted to share this design with those of you who may be interested in it. It's made out of aluminum angle pieces, and is easily riveted together. The size of the pieces is dependent on your preferences. The front, back, and left side pieces are flipped so one flat edge rests even against the sides of the table. The other flat edge of each piece is even with the table surface. The rip fence piece is riveted to the front and back guide bars. There are two spacers (one front, one back) between the rip fence and left side bar. This helps to keep everything in place. I designed mine to fit my table, so take your measurements and have at it. I hope this helps those of you who own this saw, and who may be thinking of buying it, to complete your projects easier. This design is offered freely for your use and improvements.

Made a mistake and jumped into this purchase based on how I liked my other power tools made by ryobi. I have exhausted every option I can find on the internet to try and make this saw better and nothing has worked. Everything from better blades to adjusting the guide wheels to having the wheels balanced and nothing has helped. The worst part is that it is only one problem I am having and that is the blade tracking off and I know some is expected but not a 1/4 upto 3/8 of an inch on a 3/4" thick pine board. If it wasnt for my tracking problem the saw would fer sure be worth it but for me the saw is all but useless.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Be warned-- death by sawdust Given the placement of the motor fine saw dust can easily get sucked in and will eventually kill it. Not easy to keep it clean even with an air compressor with the only access being through tiny vents. I purchased my saw around January 2016. Worked fine through summer 2017. Save your money and buy a real machine, this model is only meant for the light duty hobbyist. I did learn a lot using it but my next bandsaw will be heavy duty and one the that can easily be cleaned. I gave it three stars as an entry level saw.

Just drove 100 miles to my closest Home Depot to purchase this saw to make holiday gifts. Set it up and went to test it and it just made a hum with no rotation. Checked tension to make sure it was correct and rotated the wheel by hand. It did not turn easily but it did turn. Removed the blade and tested motor and again it just hummed. Loosened motor drive belt and removed and retested motor. Motor hummed but did not turn. I don’t believe it is a bad capacitor because the motor is very hard to turn the drive gear by hand. This is just poor craftsmanship to put a product in a box that would definitely not pass a thorough quality check. I will be returning this product as it does not meet my expectations whatsoever. I will not exchange for a new one as I have no faith in ryobi anymore.

This was the only band saw in stock at my local Home Depot, so after looking the display model over ( and reading the other reviews ) I decided to take a chance on it. The first thing I did was check the flatness of the table ( it's packed on top of the foam insert ) of it's not flat in the main (center) section of the table you might as well return it since you'll never get a square cut out of it. Mine was perfectly flat in the center, and the grooved outer edges were only 1/64 in. or so lower, so I saw no real problems there. After attaching the table I got out my small machinist square and squared up the table to the blade.

Aggravating to have to dismantle and re-box, but the good folks at Home Depot took the return and we opened one up in the store, plugged it in, it worked fine. The second one has been working flawlessly everyday for three weeks. You may want to invest in better, name brand blades, as the ones that come with it dull quickly. Does what we ask it to do, especially for the price.

Within 10 minutes after reading manual and setting up the tension and installing the table, I was off and cutting. I made over 300 rounded cuts on 2x4, 2x6, 2x8 so far and had no issues. If you want more thrills or larger dimensional lumber I can see a need for larger band saw but in this case the quality and price make it great for a DIY hobbyist.
