After using the tool and taking the battery out to charge should you keep it always plugged in even if not used for weeks and what is the life battery

Asked by: Witt
Thank you for asking, Witt. To obtain the longest possible battery life, we suggest removing the battery pack from the charger once it is fully charged and ready for use. For battery pack storage longer than 30 days, store the battery pack where the temperature is below 80°f and away from moisture, store battery packs in a 30%-50% charged condition, and every six months of storage, we recommend charging the battery pack as normal. Great question! I hope this helps. –Keri

40-Volt X Lithium-Ion Cordless Attachment Capable String Trimmer - Battery and Charger Not Included is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 125.

I have a pole saw from a different mfr, Ryobi edger and brush cutter attachments and all have done the job. I have a half acre, with 80 ft driveway, 200 ft street frontage and 1200 sq ft house. I can do all edging, weed eating and brush trimming on one charge, at least 20 min run time at full speed. I've done it twice on a charge. The brush cutter goes thru a 1 inch branch as fast as the pole saw with no oil needed. This tool has plenty of power without the hassle of a 2 stroke engine. If it last 5 years I'll be happy. The only con is the battery costs $100 on its own, but it's lithium, not NiCad, so you can charge it after every se with no memory issues.

I would have given this a 5-star review if the battery had lasted longer when I was cutting through tall grass/weeds, over 12" high, in my back lot. It is powerful enough, but it doesn't last long enough. It lasted 17-20 minutes in tall grass. Then, I would have to change out the battery and charge the first battery. Usually, the 2nd battery would die before I'm done, so I would once more have to change out batteries, this time retrieving the first battery, still not completely charged (because it usually takes 90 minutes), to finish my weedwhacking. It lasts longer, ~35-40 mnutes, for curbside weedwhacking for short grass and dandelions; so it's not bad in that respect. Also, the manual doesn't even tell you how to rotate the shaft for vertical cutting, like edging grass on a curb. (It's done in the middle of the handle.) String replacement is different from other trimmers. You may have to take the head off (by rotating the knob clockwise!), but is straightforward from there. Note that the task times I have given above don't necessarily mean the whole time the motor was running because I took my finger off the trigger as I moved from weed bunch to weed bunch. But, I did use a stopwatch for the whole task times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME! I have been putting off buying a weed eater for awhile now, but finally decided that we needed one. I did my research and was leaning towards electric anyhow when I came across this beauty. I worked on a golf course for 12 years and always used gas weed eaters and figured they were the best. After using this one I knew that it would have done the job back then and it does it now for sure. I have a one acre lot and have been able to use the weed eater then the blower on the same battery and same charge. Its quiet and you don't need mixed gas, so its a win win in my book. Rated 5 out of 5 by from A powerful beast This is night and day different than my old black and decker cordless trimmer. This is the real deal and I am now knocking out the edging in my yard in half the time that I was. Can't wait to get more tools to plug into it. My old one had an auto string head on it and this one you have to beat on the ground but it's really not a big deal.. Oh and don't listen to the internet geniuses that say to smack it on concrete, just a tap in the grass at full speed does the trick to extend the string. Smacking it on something hard will eat the plastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed I bought this tool about a month ago so I will be able to take care of my yard after my son moves away at the end of the summer, taking his heavy gas trimmer with him. I've been delighted at the light weight, ease of use, and excellent performance, especially since I'm really not strong enough to start a gas trimmer easily any more. This one allows me to do the job quickly and easily, and it runs easily for an hour or so on a single charge. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This product truly has gas like power. I live on a large corner lot so there is a bunch of trimming/edging to be done. So it takes two batteries or two charges to finish my yard. Even with that this trimmer is great, reliable and strong enough to cut down knee high grass. Not to mention no more gas and the maintenance that goes with gas trimmers. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gas like power! I replaced an aging blower and trimmer and blower combo from another big box store. I love the power these tools have and the fact that it used the same battery as my Ryobi lawn mower so I have an extra battery for the mower or the trimmer if needed. My neighbors borrowed it and decided it was time to replace theirs with Ryobi. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I have had many chordless units over the years including two 18v ryobi models. After I purchased a 40v mower I figured that I could now buy this bare unit anf just use the battery I had.....wow what a huge difference. This thing runs like an old gas driven unit I once had. Plenty of power to cut through anything. Love it.
